How do you name your characters?

All of my characters have Tolkien-inspired names.

My 3 sylvari have plant names: Laurelin was the golden tree of light, Nimloth is a type of white flower, and Lavaralda is a green-leaved tree. So, their names are Laurelin Goldtree, Nimloth Whitebloom, and Lavaralda Greenleaf.

My 2 norn are named after Maia: Goldberry, wife of Tom Bombadil, was the River’s daughter. Arien was a fire spirit and the guardian of the last fruit of Laurelin, so their names are Goldberry Riverborn and Arien Fireheart.

My human is named after Galadriel’s ring, Nenya, the ring of Adamant. Her name is Nenya Stonewill.

My charr is named for a legendary elvish spear, Aeglos. The spear shares its name with a plant Aeglos, which was also known as Snowthorn to the elves. Her name is Aeglos Snowthorn.

My asura are the only 2 who don’t follow my tradition of first-name two-part-last-name. They are Ungwe Lianti and Fuin Daedelos. Ungwe Lianti is one of Ungoliant’s names in Tolkien’s many reworkings of his lore; it was my Necromancer’s name in GW1 and I carried it forward to my Necro in GW2. Taur nu Fuin and Taur nu Daedelos are 2 of the names of the Forest of Mirkwood. It seemed appropriate for my GW1 Assassin, so I recycled the name for my Thief.

Just chiming in to say I did the same: I picked the Sylvari backpack because I was on my eldest character, my Sylvari Ranger.

I have 7 characters who will be 4 years old before New Years, and while I’m excited about all the fancy dyes I’ll be getting, I’m disappointed that the backpack skin was a reward for an achievement, and not a birthday present.

Charr armor clippings

The Charr armor offerings are abysmal for Medium classes (Ranger, Thief, Engineer)…most of them are long, tail-clipping coats. I had a Charr Engineer that I loved, but between tail clipping on armor and the engineer kit packs oddly perched on her hunchback, I deleted her.

They have since gotten rid of those backpacks, but limited options for good-looking, non-clipping armors ruin what would otherwise be my 2nd favorite race, aesthetically speaking.

I deleted my 2.5 year old Charr Engineer because I finally got fed up enough with the way the Engineer’s different kit packs looked on her hunchback, and they got rid of those.

With great power, comes great responsibility…

So, I deleted and remade my (2.5 year old) Charr Engi as Norn, got the Norn to about lvl 45 (the kit packs were still a thing). Then I had to take a year off from gaming and it was during that hiatus, that they got rid of the packs…so, when I came back, I’d forgotten the kit packs had even existed.

I happily leveled my Norn Engineer to 80, and then someone reminded me about the stupid kit packs and now I’m ticked off; I almost want to delete and remake my Norn Engi as a Charr again, because they got rid of the reason I deleted and remade what would now be a 4-year old character in the first place!

Making Jennah useful would just be a bonus kick in the teeth.

I deleted about 200 transmutation crystals because all of my characters were 80 and I couldn’t use them, and then they added the Wardrobe (and the ability to turn 3 Crystals into one Charge).

I deleted my 2.5 year old Charr Engineer because I finally got fed up enough with the way the Engineer’s different kit packs looked on her hunchback, and then they got rid of the kit packs.

I’ve deleted all of my Jennahs and all of my characters (except my Revenant) are over a year old, so they should be adding a use for her shortly.
