The name goes back to a point of time in the Guild Wars lore which were called: The Guild Wars. I believe they were fighting about the bloodstones, which were a major source of magic power, in order to become the most powerfull guild and which nation would be the most powerfull (kryta, ascalon or orr)

you can indeed apply it to all skill that have that, althoug they are not on autoattack so you need to activate them youselfs to cast the second spell in the chain. for example: if you use the spell illusionary counter you can press the skill again while you are channeling to use counterspell.

there are also phantasms who are the stronger purple versions of clones and have there own attacks, as clones only use the same weapons you are currently equiped with.

the three skills you see on the tool tips are the chain skills of the auto attack. when you start a fight with an enemy you use ether bolt, which is the first one in the chain, if you keep using auto attack you use etherblast and finally the last one in the chain which is etherclone which creats the clone you are talking about. after this the chain resets and you attack with etherbolt again.

as for the permanent clones, they don’t exist. your clones always disapair when you have killed your enemy. there are alot of utility skills though that summons more illusions although you can have a max of three illusions active at any time.

i find it great fun to use the flamethrower and if you buff yourself enough you’ll do tons of dmg
