Thanks For all the Posts Guys, I Have tried Over Clocking the CPU and the improvement in minimal at best. I want to know how a company like this can just brush off the obvious need for optimization? I mean you ask any real Guild Wars 2 Player and they will tell you that the game does play very well or just simply search (GW2 FPS) and you will see the Links .
I would love to play this game more and probably spend a lot more money in the cash shop, but I think that my days with Guild wars are numbered, because of this issues and this issues alone (Have around 600 hours in game, so I am no noob)
Its not optimization anymore. Its the fact that the game’s engine is Single threaded. And AMD does NOT do single threaded processes as efficiently as Intels. that is all the issue is now.
use the applications I told you about to Overclock, look at the GPU/CPU Utilization, while running GW2 and adjust ALL your settings (Driver level and in the game) until you get the performance you are after and start to see your GPU/CPU not spike out.
that FX will only do so well. But it should be tunable to be adequate for your needs.
I thinking about quitting this game, I really should not have to do this much just to get it to a playable state on my system, Shame on the development/Engineering teams and the support teams to make 20-30 FPS the “Normal” for such a great game.
You will need to over clock that CPU, get a better cooling solution and tweak your system to the requirements of GW2.
CPU-Z
GPU-Z
CoreTemp
MSIAfterburnerGet those apps and use them to learn how your system actually is working while running GW2.
So what your saying is that I need to OC my $1500 system to play a game(From 2012) that should not need that type of specialization? I mean how is this the Public answer to “FIX” the game ? Now I’m not saying this to you, thanks for the reply, I am saying this to the Devs of this game that need to fix this problem.

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if someone could give me some pointers on how to improve my FPS in GW2. I have talked with Tech Support and that got me no where (Ended up saying that it has to be my fault, even though I passed ever PC Benchmark they could give), so i’m turning to the community to hopefully call me a stupid head and tell me what i’m doing wrong (Cause I have tried it all).
SPECS –
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Mother Board: Saber Tooth 990FX
Processor: AMD FX-8150 Eight Core – 3.61 GHz
Memory(RAM): (16GB) DDR3
Graphics Card: ASUS – GTX680-2GD5
– GeForce 331.93 Driver (BETA)
MY Frame Rates Vary on where I am in the World, on low settings with a few tweaks I can get around 15-25 Frames. on High Settings I get around 10-19 Frames (This is in the heart of LA). In WVW its OK but when I get into a large zerg it becomes a slide show.
So I ask you, what specs and Frame Rates are you getting and what settings are giving you the best results ?
BENCHMARK for my system —>
BF4 (50-70FPS)
ARMA2 & ARMA3 (50-60FPS)
HitMan Absolution (50-60FPS)

There’s a sticky at the top of this forum where Bill Freist has been keeping us up to date with their progress on optimization:
Great Thanks for the INFO !
Now that I read that, it doesn’t really help at all … this thread is about FPS/optimization issues, not “SKILL LAG” or server side band width and optimization issues, but thanks for trying :-)

I agree, It seems to be more of a problem for us FX users. But I’ve seen i5s and i7s get the usual slow down in heavy WvW scenarios.
But I’m even more eager for a optimization patch after seeing the MASSIVE improvement in fps from the Planetside 2 patch. I really hope Anet can do something similar because PS2’s patch was stellar.
Thanks I just hope that we get people in here to voice this huge issue, tell all your friends to come here and comment (Bring the POWER of the internet)
Hello All,
I was just hoping that I could get an answer out of an admin that they are looking into optimizing the game to be less CPU bound, for example the game doesn’t even use my GPU above 15-20% at all times. and I don’t get that great of Frames 20 – 40 FPS in general areas and 10-5 FPS in large ZERGS, I just want to know when if even they are going to come into the current gen and run on DX11 and use more than two cores of my CPU.
P.S. – I have talked with Tech support and have gone through all their test, getting 96 AVG FPS on the benchmarks I ran, and get great FPS on any other game I play. Is anyone else getting bad frames, cause I would WAY rather have a stable game client in WVW and in large BOSS fights, than an update to the “Tower of Nightmares” or living story in general, not saying that I don’t love the story or that I don’t play the game religiously but I think that generally players would agree.

Alright so the way that I look around in GW2 bothers me, when I’m running around I seem to always hold my right mouse button down and keep my cursor in the same place (Right under the enemy health bar) and I had an Idea that might not be that hard to implement. That Idea was to make a static mouse cursor option in GW2 so that when you are just playing the game you just need to move your mouse to move the direction that you character is going and then when you open your inventory or menus it goes to the current set up.
Perks:
- Faster casting (Because you don’t have to worry about your cursor being off target)
- lower amount of miss-casts
- tailoring the game to different play styles (Their was a MOD that did the same thing)
Any comments / Improvements below would be greatly appreciated!
