It’s not impossible by any stretch to finish this puzzle using keyboard alone. That’s the only way I’ve ever finished it, whether on my laptop or for my mom on her desktop, but I also don’t use WASD. I prefer SDFC. (That may or may not make a difference; those are the bindings I’ve been using in MMO’s for fifteen years, so the muscle memory is strong.)
Granted, you probably won’t ever get 10+ finishes in an instance, and you really need to do what you can to make sure your graphics are smooth. If I enter the puzzle and mine are choppy or delayed, I leave, because I know that it won’t be happening.
Edit to add — I do use the touchpad to rotate the camera once or twice, usually at the beginning, then at the safe spot, but all actual navigation is done through SDFC.
