Hey guys,

This feedback is strictly from the PoV of a small wvw-only guild, who are focussed more on fights and GvG than PPT. We had enough people in the beta to do a small raid (Turns out everyone from the guild got invites) and we ran for approximately 3 hours.

General feedback:

  • Map is way too big. You would need to double the cap at the very minimum to populate it. Even when there was a massive queue at the start of the test, we ran for quite some time without seeing anyone other than the passive mobs, which brings me to my next point…..
  • There are way too many mobs on the map. Dinosaurs, skelk, spiders, it goes on and on. Aggressive vet dinosaurs don’t belong in wvwvw IMO. they look cool, but it makes it tough to have fights in the only open spaces on the map because they are literally filled with creeps.
  • Air turret knockback is annoying. It’s really not hard to dodge but there are so many of them, hidden around corners and in nooks on the stairs. I’d suggest lowering them.
  • earth walls in the earth keep are annoying and make running through it take way longer, even if it’s yours. Should only impede enemies assault.
  • Verticality (not a word, whatever) of the map is a bit extreme. We spent more time trying to figure out “how do we get down without dying” than anything. Though…..
  • We did get to try out the air shrine buff (no fall damage) which was fun until someone capped a shrine while a bunch of us were in midair……
  • The middle cannon event was kind of neat. With a few organized groups it could be fun, there could be some awesome fights. It still seems like the server with more players will dominate.
  • Overall I don’t see anyone fighting inside the keeps due to the ridiculous choke points and seige overlooks. It seriously seems like the map designers tried their very hardest to make insane chokes. It would only take a few ACs and some solid cc to keep all but the largest zergs from breaching into lords.
  • Tower designs were kind of neat. Not really much to say on this. The lords having different attacks was fun.
  • Speaking of lords, the keep lords do a ton of damage if left alone. We pushed in on a much larger group in our lords room, right when the lord did its shockwave attack (a bit like Teq’s waves) and it downed a load of them. It’s refreshing for lords to actually be a threat to the opposing team.
  • The map looks really nice. We all agreed on that.
  • Keeps upgrading on their own means there is a ton of supply. Supply hubs inside keeps seemed a bit scarce and were hard to find at first. A map icon could help.
  • Shield generators are really neat. The range is a bit silly, though. Almost 4k range is way too much, at least in my opinion. Looking forward to playing with them more.
  • Lots of straight-up un-counterable siege positions in towers, keeps and walls. That’s not fun to fight against.

That’s pretty much it.

Our overall consensus was that the map will not be played by guilds looking for fights, primarily because of it’s size. It is difficult for two groups to meet organically without trying to defend/attack something, and because the map is so large the attacking side should have plenty of time to flip the objective before reinforcements arrive. Even if two guilds manage to meet and want to have a good fight, they are both plagued by neutral/aggressive mobs (free rallies for down players) and the line of sight issues presented by a very slope-y environment. Again, the general consensus is that we will not play this map in its current state, and instead focus on the guild hall arena (and scrims with guilds who actually want to fight) during weeks it is active.

We did not come across any bugs, the event seemed like more of a “look how cool this new, finished map is” than a stress/beta event.

Thank you for inviting us, we had fun!

Seige dropped in "Seige Locked" areas.

in WvW

Logic.2358

It’s not really an exploit. There’s many, many places on the BLs, EB and EotM (but who cares about EotM) where seige can be placed in “locked zones”. All you have to do is stand outside the zone, where seige can be placed, and throw the seige back into the locked zone. There’s only a few places where this is actually useful because the range of seige throwing is only 1200, and this place in Citadel being one of them.

The seige itself is not invulnerable, and this treb can be cleared in a number of ways, some with counter seige (balli, counter treb, etc) and some with large aoe skills (meteor shower, necro ds4, etc). I’m not going to tell you how because if you can’t figure it out you deserve to be hit by it.

I don’t see it as an exploit because Anet could have simply just not allowed seige sites in these areas, like they do in some places where there is no LoS. If you go to the edge of the map and try to throw an AC up the cliff, it won’t let you, citing LoS even though it is in sight. They could have done that in Cit, but didn’t.

It’s a clever treb, placed in a clever position, but it has counters and can be taken out pretty easily. If it’s an exploit than things like ramming watergate on green EB keep, pocket cata on jerris or veloka, cliff cata on SW garri, etc are too.

But personally I see those things, as well as this, as clever use of game mechanics. I’ll ask Proheals what he thinks next time I see him online.

You opinion about Dredge?

I’m one of the few who has no issues with the dredge fractal.

I’ve done fractals hundreds of times and honestly – dredge doesn’t take much longer than cliffside or uncatagorized. The only thing i would change is to tone down the excess dredge at the clown car at high levels (40+). Other than that, I love that it takes group coordination and timing, and the boss is one of my favorites in the game.

Possible memory leak?

in Account & Technical Support

Logic.2358

Hey guys.

I’ve got a weird issue happening. The only cause i can think of is some sort of memory leak, im stumped as to what else it could be.

My specs are as follows:

  • i5-3570k overclocked to 4.1ghz
  • AMD Radeon 7950 @ stock
  • 8gb Ram
  • SSD

my temps for my GPU range from 40-50, depending how long ive been playing, and my CPU sits around 50 also.

What happens is when i first launch the game, i get exceptional fps, usually 100-150 everywhere in the game, lions arch included. after 10-15 minutes, my screen goes black for a second or two, and after this happens my fps sits around 30, and caps at 59 when i look straight up at the sky or at a simply-textured wall without moving. In my game settings i have vsync turned off, in full screen, with the refresh rate set to default and the frame limiter set to unlimited. In my Catalyst Game settings for 3d applications or w.e ive got vsync set to ‘always off’. My driver version for my 7950 is 12.104.00.00 and it says these are the most up-to-date drivers.

I’m pretty good with computers and I understand what all the above listed settings mean and how the drivers work, but im having trouble finding an explanation for this – it almost seems like my computer is limiting the frames or turning on vsync by itself!

Id love to hear what you guys think of this, thank you for reading and let me know what you think or if youve encountered a similar problem! \

Cheers!

@Big Tower – What i think you’re describing is circle-strafing and I feel like thats more of a general tip, not something thats thief-specific.

All stats Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There is absolutely nothing wrong with All-Stat/Celestial gear. People saying they are awful and bad (Lehova.9518 and Lopez.7369, to name a few in this thread) are either ignorant or trolling (I’m inclined to believe the former). Celestial gear provides on average 20% more statpoints, and so long as you can make use of them, even a bit, its worth it..

I wear full valkyrie with divinity and ascended celestial trinkets on my thief, and am able to make use of all the stats nicely. I can still throw around 7-9k backstabs like a zerker thief, but ive got 17k health padded by a good amount of toughness. The precision is helpful because ive got no precision on my gear. I rely on the Hidden Killer trait (providing 100% crit from stealth) for my backstab crits, and i receive about 30% crit chance from traits and ~10% from my trinkets and runes. The condition damage gets used by my poison fields and bleeding from multiple skills, the healing power doesn’t matter much but it is helpful for sustain and Signet of Malice.

What im trying to get at is that the only reason you shouldnt get ascended celestial is if you are a complete min/maxer type or you will not use ~2 of the stats AT ALL. There is a _very_small difference in damage between zerker/ruby builds and ceslestial and if you can use the stats its a much better choice.

@ PopeUrban – I plan on going over things like evasion builds and condition cover as well as mad king runes + elite when i release the Builds Page. As of now I dont have an ETA but I am working on it between classes and work. Thank you for reminding me about the downed sneak attack – i had forgotten about the poison aspect of it Cheers

@Purgatoryz – The reason behind sticking with P/P for most boss encounters is because at high levels you cannot be in melee range – you’ll spend a lot of time dodging and will not do much damage. P/P has higher dps than shortbow when dealing single target damage, therefore it is the preferred choice for fractals. Its not a weaponset I prefer by any means – but its the best tool we have.

My build is absolutely not optimized for p/p play – i run valkyrie/divinity with ascended celestial and zerker backpiece. Ive found that popping in and out of stealth and utilizing the pistol stealth attack to trigger combofields is as effective as it gets. YMMV but when it comes to ranged weapons, shortbow is for multi target/blast finisher while p/p is the higher dps single target alternative.

Hopefully that clears up my decisions a bit.

@ Kubetz – Thank you for the feedback! I’m glad youve enjoyed it!

@Tempest Darqmane – yes! share it with all of your friends :P The more the merrier!

@Sir Vincent III – Thank you, I’m glad you found the fractals section helpful

@Redspectrum – The double tap is very handy especially with the ice shard. Wish we could throw those things like we can with the scales and gunk :P

Hello Everyone!

You guys may or may not know me, I’m E L U S I V E from Tarnished Coast. For the past month and a half I’ve been working on an advanced thief guide, aiming to focus on high level fractals and somewhat counter-intuitive tricks and tips that many thieves may not know.

I’m pleased to announce that as of today my site, GW2Thief.net is online and ready to be viewed!

Due to final exams and the start of a new semester, I was unable to complete the Builds section of the guide – I have already written about the same amount as the fractals page for builds – but there is just so much to cover and I wouldn’t want to rush it out. I feel that there is already many, many resources online for builds and to jump into that audience without something truly polished would be pretty foolish.

That being said, I’m going to continue working on it and I hope to have it completed soon. I will post an update thread to let you guys know.

If you have any comments or constructive criticism please post it in this thread or send me a message, This is my first real website I’ve created and I’d love to know what you guys think of the layout and aesthetics – in addition to the content. If you disagree with something, let me know! and if you feel that I’ve left something out please don’t hesitate to share with me, This project has been – and always will be – open to the community’s input.
Thank you all for your support and I hope you guys enjoy & appreciate what I’ve thrown together!

Cheers,

E L U S I V E [GC], Tarnished Coast
