Yes! I’ve been wanting this for a while
+1!! Would be great
I’m also sure there might be reasons against it, but I reckon the devs would figure out how to make something like this work. A friend had told me that there are a bunch of devs who actually want this sort of thing to happen.
If players really want it then I think they could make it happen. We just need to bring more attention to it.
I had sent these questions to Support because I wanted direct answers from someone at Anet, and even though I got a really good response, I was still encouraged to post on the forums about it. So! Here it is:
Are we ever going to experience real failure when it comes to the Living Story. I know that this current Living Story is meant to be about how humanity prevails, but what happens when we don’t? What will change?
Will there ever be a time in Guild Wars 2 when our failure affects the entirety of Tyria?
Will we ever be allowed to truly fail at all?
Of course, at some point we’re going to need to take Tyria back, and we will.
But after finally meeting Scarlet, I started to think about a dying Tyria.
I thought mostly of the Grove and The Pale Tree.
If Tyria were to fall, what would that look like inside the Grove especially? Would the same thing that happens to Morgan’s Spiral happen to the Grove? Would it turn completely dull and lifeless. Would we see whole of The Pale Tree wilt in a one time only cutscene?
Now here’s the suggestion part:
Let us have the choice to join the dark side.
If this ever happens to Tyria, I understand a whole bunch of players might hate it and some who read this are probably screwing up their faces, but then there would be a whole other bunch of players who are excited about it.
I think that if Tyria were to fall, we as players should be able to choose whether or not we want to join The Nightmare Court, Inquest, Bandits and so forth.
Much like we choose an Order in the personal story.
I also understand that being the bad guy probably wouldn’t work in the open world, especially if there are still only good deeds to be done when it comes to dynamic events.
But I reckon Anet would be able to think of a way to add in dynamic events for the players who chose to darker side.
I’m not looking to start arguments and annoy people. I think this would be good to talk about.
What does everybody think about the idea of us really failing for once? Seeing Tyria change so dramatically that it really impacts us as players in a big way.
Thanks for taking the time to read through!
So, um… I agree! Maybe a speed signet or something. I think every class should have a speed boost signet.
That puzzle was amazing. Does anyone know if it’s going to stay? I really want it to stay!
That’s unfortunate.
Am I the only one who got up at 4AM to see it and is not complaining? Yes, all I saw was a hole in the ground, but the fact that the cutscene was put seamlessly into the game was impressive enough for me. I didn’t expect it to start like that.
You could’ve stayed in your warm, comfy little beds and missed it. You’re all aware of a site called YouTube, right? You would know that what ever it was that was happening would get captured by tons and tons of people and posted on YouTube, so nobody would really miss out.
ANet have put a lot of effort into this whole Halloween thing and there are still many of you who think you’re entitled to much more than this. It’s ridiculous.
I didn’t see him, but that didn’t bother me, even though I was up by 4AM. I’d see him before. What I did see of the cutscene was enough for me.
ANet put effort into these things, how are they going to know it’s going to be bugged for some people? They can’t just chuck it into the game and test it. They take risks with these things.
They have it on YouTube already anyway, just watch it there.
