So their usefulness really comes from picking off the backline?
Hi everyone,
My main is currently elementalist, however the idea of of playing a thief as a main has been crossing my mind lately.
My issue with that is I like to play all aspects of the game (sPvP, WvW, PvE, etc.) but WvW has always been played more than the other modes. I would like my thief to main staff but I’m curious if there is any other way a thief is useful within a zerg v zerg fight other than stealth. Elementalist “auramancer” is a nice support which is what I like, but outside of sPvP it’s a little too easy to maintain interest. A support thief isn’t what I’m looking for like an auramancer, but is there some way I can still be useful within zergs outside of stealth and raw dps.
I was looking on metabattle as well but I only see roaming builds.

That title pun tho
I think I laughed a little too hard just now lol
- Hasuno Shio
- PvE/ WvW/ PvP
- Tester/Student
- Stormbluff Isle
- I want to specialize in staff combat. A lot of folks say it’s an easy weapon to master but when I actually try to work with it, it’s pretty breezy after a few attempts in WvW and PvE. The issue comes in sPvP. 2vX is pretty decent, however when it comes to 1v1 it becomes pretty difficult (ok maybe that’s an understatement lol). People will say it was designed with PvE and WvW (group combat in general) in mind but I want to go through the challenge of mastering the wep in 1v1 as well.
Would be pretty nice. I like Jefferson’s staff guide, but would be nice to have some extra opinions as far as utilities and traits goes.
Since when has staff ever been hard to play? It’s the easiest weapon, to master, in the game.
On other classes, sure. As far as Ele goes, it’s easier to use in WvW (not roaming) and PvE. sPvP and roaming is a different story. Not everyone wants to use dagger or scepter.
I have a feeling hammer will be the weapon and drones will have something to do with a kit.
the build you linked doesn’t have any traits put in the inspiration line. and prismatic understanding’s been selected. something’s wrong with the link i guess or it’s just me?
Nope it’s not just you.
From my understanding, Offhand sword has Riposte which is a very useful block which also spawns a clone. If the block isn’t going to be used, you can activate it again for a daze which also pierces. iSwordsman is also one of the strongest phantasm as well.
On top of that, if you trait Blade Training under the Dueling trait line, the CD’s are adjusted for both main hand and offhand sword. Which is essentially a free block every 10s and iSwordsman can be on a 10s CD as well if you trait for it.
Contrary to others’ beliefs, the auto attack from sword main hand as been pretty useful considering the vulnerability on the first 2 attacks and the boon stripping on the final slash.

I won’t be able to get ascended Celestial gear immediately at 80. What’s a good alternative until then?
Are power builds pretty viable for Engineer? Or are celestial or condition builds the better routes to take?
Does Sigil of Fire and of Air work well with the Grenade and Bomb Kit in terms of extra damage? For WvW, Arena, and PvE.
Same team or not, it is still the same company. Which means, yes, the same expectations.
Then you’re expectations are not based on anything but an assumption that GW2 should be GW1 with improved graphics. Obviously, that’s not the case as can easily be observed after 2 years of playing GW2 and experience in GW1 … your expectations are not aligned with reality, nor are they linked to any explicit plans Anet has indicated for how GW2 will evolve.
In short, you’ve simply convinced yourself we should have stuff GW1 had based on similarities you see between the two games. That’s not an expectation Anet has set, it’s simply coincidental.
You’re constantly trying to force the argument that GW1 and GW2 are being compared to each other, when that is not the case. Not for me anyways.
And BMW is still providing great service to their consumers, if not better.
ANyways, back to the OP. I wouldn’t get your hopes up for a designated healer anytime soon though. It’s already been said that having a healer most likely is not going to happen. Closest to healer you can get is a Cleric Elementalist unfortunately.

It’s simple for a business.
Both games were made under the same company, they set their standard years ago with releasing great content to please their consumers.
The company had a certain passion for releasing new content in GW1. It doesn’t appear to be the same here. By new content I do mean expansions similar in importance as Factions, NightFall, and Eye of the North.
Same team or not, it is still the same company. Which means, yes, the same expectations.
I like it.
I also thought of reintroducing Disease as it was in GW1 back into the game. It may, if modified correctly, create some sense of caution when dog piling in a blob.
This would give necros a larger presence. Which is pretty great in my opinion. Even with all the condi cleanse, it still has to potential to keep spreading. Question is, what would the effect of the disease be? A simple health degeneration isn’t really that threatening like it is in GW1.
I support the idea, however the balancing may be a bit too extensive in their case (Devs). Then you have some, if not most, of the ‘experienced’ WvW players that will cry their hearts out.
I like the idea of engineer. Are there any viable elixir or gadget builds, with maybe one kit? I saw the HGH Hybrid build on meta battle. But is that the only viable elixir build?
I’m playing GW2 with 2 of my family members. However we have been a little indecisive about our mains lol. I for one have several level 80s (Mesmer, Necromancer, Ranger).
But now we’re finally making our decisions on a main. We generally keep to ourselves for the time being when it comes to dungeons, fractals, or rather, any pve content. Which brings me to the title of the topic.
My brother has decided on Warrior as his main, while my sister has chosen Ranger. I love to support, heal, buff, etc. (Anything to keep the group stronger and going). I like all the ‘supportive’ classes (though honestly i stayed away from Guardian since there are so many lol), however I wanted to ask the GW2 community which class would compliment a Warrior and Ranger best as a trio.
At this point I have an open mind, even if it’s a challenging class (or overplayed :P).
