Forced Mac OS update with todays patch?

I realise for some this suggestion comes after the horse has bolted, and I hope this doesn’t come across as preaching, but instead of attempting to create another partition on a boot disk, install the older system on an external drive.

HDs and even SSDs are incredibly cheap nowadays if you don’t already own one for backup purposes it begs the question why not?! If you’d had a backup you’d be able to rewind the GW2 update.

What if your machine fails completely today, say you dropped or spilt coffee over it? How would you cope with that situation? If you don’t already own a backup drive ask yourself that question. It’s unfortunate that for so many computer users they have to experience a catastrophic loss before they finally realise just how important backups are.

If you have invested a lot of money in professional software it is also essential to keep it up to date so that you don’t get caught out like this. Granted, hardware and software is updated so rapidly these day it can be expensive, but there are often cheaper alternatives that are worth trying and often there are student versions too.

Hello,

We’re going to need to spend some more time on getting a patching resolution. As this could carry into the weekday, the team would like to give you an optional workaround.

1. Rename your existing application file to something other than “Guild Wars 2”.
2. Download a new “Guild Wars 2.dmg” from here:
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/branches/Gw2Setup.dmg
(or) from the account manager on guildwars2.com.
3. Open the file and install the application. This installation should fix the certificates issue you’ve been experiencing.
4. When the installer completes and the Guild Wars 2 client begins patching, close the application.
5. Delete the new “Guild Wars 2” application that the installer placed in your Applications folder.
6. Relaunch the original application that you renamed in step 1.
7. The application will patch to the latest version.

Thank you for your patience and see you in Tyria!
~Sarah

Most excellent! It works, thanks for this fast track solution.

KarateKid is correct, give the control, alt and command keys a few taps and voila it weirdomagically cures the enter and escape problem. …. mmm … … … now if only we had a native client … mutter mutter…

@KarateKid: It has been reported and all I got was the stock standard “delete the plist and dat files” reply for dummies from so called “tech support”, which from the level of support, I guess is some poor stressed out kid sitting in the corner of the office. Of course that did not work and they have been told so. … still waiting for a response.

Thanks KarateKid, it doesn’t sound stupid actually, it’s quite feasible. The game also occasionally gets stuck on the rotate keys too and I discovered an odd solution is bring up a window ( like the options view ) hit escape (when that works) and it cures the spinning.

I guess the game is probably intercepting mouse and key presses and it misses some ( as it would if it’s polling rather than correctly using OS system events ).

I’ll try your solution next time it happens.

1. Fix the Trading Post please!
2. Native client!
3, 4,5 … Not been around long enough to have experienced WvW etc, yet so I’ll stick with two wishes!

I’m new here but I also agree that it’s obvious the lack of communication from ANet staff in this forum is not up to standard. Especially when things go wrong like they have with the trading post since yesterday. Almost 24 hours and still no confirmation that the problems is at least recognised!

Same problem here too, glad to know it isn’t just me, I’ve been through all the “fixit” hacks suggested in these forums. No success.

Guild Wars 2 – 1.0.009524
Macbook-Pro Retina 2013

Escape key : One can no longer close windows with escape.

Enter/Return keys : Text entered into the chat window cannot be entered because return is ignored.

After some time playing the Escape and Enter ( Return ) keys just stop working, they become ignored by the game. This is consistent behaviour and it will happen every session at some point. I’ve confirmed this isn’t an issue with my keyboard because I’ve tested the keys are working in other apps while the game is running. Switch back to game and keys don’t work.

I haven’t worked out what causes it, or a behaviour pattern that can repeat it yet, if I do I will post back here.

( This isn’t a good way to submit bug reports is there a more “official” method where bugs can be properly tracked ? )
