Hi, I’m having a problem loading GW2. When I click the shortcut on my desktop, the loading window appears for a second, and then minimizes to the taskbar. When I hover over the icon on the task bar, it just shows an empty window.
It may involve my Bitdefender Total Security, but it may not at all. I used to have an issue where the firewall would block the game even though I’ve approved it (and the window would appear with a connection error), but now the firewall is disabled and the loading window isn’t appearing at all. When I open the game, I get all these notifications about Bidefender switching to Game Mode and Razer Game Booster boosting my game. At first it was also enabling my firewall, but I’m not having that problem anymore.
I’m using a Razer Blade 14".
It WAS my firewall! That’s so weird; it was working fine for a day with the firewall, and then it started getting blocked… EVEN THOUGH I set a rule approving gw2.
I am a level 63 elementalist, and coming from RuneScape, figuring out this game has proved to be very difficult for me. The mechanics are still very much a mystery to me. I know I like to PvE, and I know I want to get better at the game, and I’d like a community to help me get there and have fun doing it.
I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 on my new Razer Blade 14" for a few days now without any problems, and installed Bitdefender Total Security last night and continued to play GW2 without any issues. I was just in game in the Lamprey Grottoes, speaking with a Charr NPC near some tank machinery and a message came up saying “New build available. Your client will restart in 3 minutes”—I’m not sure if I got that message because Anet was performing a system update, or it had something to do with me speaking with the NPC (I’m not familiar with the game mechanics, so I don’t know if a “Build” is something I could have unlocked by speaking with an NPC).
I stepped away from my computer for about 30 minutes, and when I came back I was no longer in GW2, and when I tried to open it again, I got this error. I checked my Bitdefender firewall, and there’s a green check mark next to GW2. Can anyone help me out?

I had the same problem: It was my AVG firewall. It wasn’t enough for me to just make an exception within the firewall settings for GW2: that didn’t work. I had to turn my firewall off all together, but now I can play.

Try turning off your firewall and see if you can access the login screen then. That’s what I had to do. I use AVG.

It seems to have been my firewall. facepalm Well, I’ve had too much homework to play anyway. But what a simple solution…
I actually don’t really know anything about firewalls. GW2 seems to only work when I turn it off. Do I really need a firewall?

It’s been well over a week now, and I can’t play GW2! When I launch the client, it gets stuck at the popup before the username/password fields even appear. It switches back and forth between displaying "Downloading 0KB (0KB/sec) and “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…”
I can hardly think of a more tragic first world problem. Please help me!!!
