Who are the Daily Achievements intended for?

Dailies should reward you logging in and being active in the game. ‘How’ you are active is frankly not up to the designers to decide. They just need to define what activity is (kill, gather, craft, pvp, do events, heal,…). But if you need to match their definition-of-the-day exactly then it’s indeed a chore aka work and not at all natural and fun . For me the original ones were fine — always nice to get an achie-popup in your play--, although I admit more choise had to be implemented to suit more play-styles. Then came the daily rotating ones : frankly that was not an improvement because now you got almost always stuck doing atleast one thing you didn’t normally do. So I was really looking forward to the possibility to choose. Only to be bitterly disappointed : oh yeah…I can choose. But what’s the point of being able to choose between the plague and cholera? If they don’t offer 5 things that are ‘normal’ for my normal activity then this isn’t progress. Actually the choises are even worse then in the rotating ones. Doing group-events? Really? That means just being at the right place at the right time and hopefully enough other people are too.

I strongly suggest they just make a big list of 20-30 options and let people choose from that. And if they really want to add something extra then make a daily-hard achievement with all the weird stuff in it. But stop telling us how to play and have fun.

Remember, this is the first step of the change…

(naturally, this is all wishful thinking on my part, not based on any evidence! It’s just how I would have done it…)

I have read that. But it’s not the way to do it. That like a bank that rolls out a new IT system that lets you make deposits. Withdrawls? Oh, that’s for the release next month They are stopping my advance in the game (ok..I’m exagerating a bit ) for 1 month to fix some stuff that shouldn’t have been broken in the first place. But this is gonna cost me alot of Karma since I do not intend to do those dailies. I left Wow because of the daily chores…I’m not gonna restart that here.

Besides grouping those new things does not change their fundamental flaws. Even their original idea of sending people all over the map is flawed. it’s not natural. It would have been better to expand the old ones with new choises that cover more playstyles and let people complete a few of them from the start. Dailies should reward the fact that you log in and play. And not be abused for other causes like filling zones, ‘learning people to dodge’,‘learn people to heal’ and other silly things.

I am piping in again on day two to say:

I love the new dailies… You do not have to do the daily. You do not have to earn a laurel.

shakes head I will never understand gamers. They will scream if their ice cream is too cold.

I’m sorry to have to inform you that it’s you that has the problem : a complete lack of empathy. The idea that someone has fun in another way then you seems a concept that is hard to understand.

And that laurel is indeed something you live without as far as I can see. However the Jug of Liquid Karma seems a rather needed item if you want that nice karma-gear. It’s the equivalent of alot of events… Or are they gonna reduce the prices for people that don’t do dailies? And I suppose the Mystic coins are at some point also very handy. I’m not a top crafter yet.

Or should these things be reserved for the mindless cheering crowd that finds everything ok?

Again : The dailies are bad because they force you to do stuff that is not natural for everyones playstyle and it has an impact on the behavior of the players. Even something as simple as healing : how long will it take before people are healing NPC’s in events instead of fighting mobs? And the few who are actually trying to get the event done will have to do all the fighting and ofc are punished for it. It’s just bad.

I’m not saying the old ones were perfect. I can imagine some playstyles that where not covered by them. So adding a few and letting people choose would be a nice improvement. What they thought up, isn’t.

I must say the new daily achie is a real disappointment.

Collect stuff : fine. it’s there anyway on your travels. Kill stuff : fine. you meet mobs everywhere. Kill different stuff : that was already boring in the old setup. I found that in some zones it was rather hard to find 15 different types since you didn’t meet them easily and jumping to other zones just to get a kill was rather annoying. Do Events : fine. They are everywhere so you meet them anyway.

But those new ones are insane : Dodge…really? I prefer to die where I stand. Dodging is not my favourite thing to do. I do it sometimes but now I’m forced to get upclose and personal with the mobs just to finish my daily? Revive : another rather stupid choise. I’m a friendly guy. And I’ll help people when I meet them. Preferably before they get killed. But now I must first let them die and then I can rezz them. Hurray!

Did you hire some wow-designers/managers or so because those new ons make no sense at all. That’s grinding and forcing people into a play style. Not at all what GW2 was supposed to be.

Dailies should encourage play. Everyone who plays an hour should have them completed without thinking about it. That’s no longer the case.

I seriously hope someone gets this back on the right track.
