Game doesn't work in fullscreen mode

Someone on the other thread regarding this problem reported that they were using Windows 7 when I asked if it was only an XP thing. I’m getting the same problem as well and am on an XP machine, obviously. The only fix reported so far is to play in windowed mode, and I can’t get windowed mode to work for me… :/

Game will not Play

On pressing play my entire screen flickers forever and locks up the entire computer. (it used to flicker for a few seconds then the main screen appeared, now it won’t end). I can move the mouse around, but it’s laggy and the only way out is a hard reset.

Win XP 32-bit , Radeon HD 4800

I’m running the integrity check at the moment, I will try windowed mode after this.

I am having exactly the same as this. I’m also on Win XP (I believe it’s 32-bit); is it only XP machines getting the problem, does anyone know?

Any ETA for a real fix? I’ll try the windowed thing after I get my kids to bed.

I have to agree that the scaling is way off. Speaking as a veteren player who has used, since the update, a completely new character, a character in a level appropriate area, and a character overpowered and scaled down to the area I was playing in, with ALL of those characters I’ve had significant trouble getting hits on mobs and being able to participate in any kind of meaningful way in even ordinary events, because everything dies way too fast. It’s bad enough that in places, I’ve had trouble just playing with my husband and guild mate because things are so easy to kill. I love the megaserver idea, but the scaling has got to be improved. It’s bad enough to make it not worth playing even in non-megaserver areas, because it takes so long to level or get a heart done when there are any other players around.

I’d love to see more profession-specific outfits as well. I’d love to see some lower-class, rag-style outfits to go with the fancier town outfits, also; I think it’d be fun to rp a begger in the streets on my lower-class thief’s days off from adventuring.

And I think we really need a good ninja assassin style outfit.

French Maid, Go-Go Dancer, Construction Worker, Fireman, and Rock Star.

Tell me you wouldn’t find a char in any one of those outfits hilarious.

I desperately need a char in a French Maid outfit now.

I’d forgotten about Gwen’s Deldrimor outfit, I second that. And I, too, think every game needs a wedding outfit, just because.

PVP actually is not difficult at all. Its just finding a game that is not full elitist jerks that is difficult. Check the PVP browser list to see if someone created a “Dailies Only” game.

Forgive me as I have no interest in PvP and therefore I have no understanding of how PvP works in this game, but are you saying we can make “Dailies Only” PvP matches where we line up and take turns killing each other cooperatively like civilized people simply for the purpose of accomplishing the daily? I’ll have to look into that.

In GW1, Anet did something similar with daily “challenges”, one being to win a certain number of PVP matches, or something like that. Eventually, there evolved “red Tuesdays” and such, where it was just accepted that on that day, everyone agreed that the red team (or whatever) would always win, just so everyone could get the achievement as needed. Fun, in an odd way, but not exactly what Anet had in mind. And, of course, they changed things around pretty quick after they figured out that’s what players were doing. I figured it’d only take a day or two for the wheel to be reinvented here as well; I can’t quite figure out how Anet keeps making this same mistake, though.

I know a lot of people are disappointed and upset about the new outfit system; I can’t say I’m a huge fan myself. That said, the justification was that we would get new outfits quicker, so… in the spirit of accepting the inevitable gracefully, what new outfits would you like to see?

I’d love to see a fancy spring/summer outfit, to go with the fancy winter outfit.

A noble’s outfit; I’ve always rather fancied that black and red dress (think Emi, who hunts the boar in Queensdale), and I’d like to see something like that, to roleplay a higher class character in town.

I’d love to see Canthan and Elonan-inspired outfits, if they could think of a way to justify it in GW2.

What about you?

(Please, please don’t make this a referendum on how much you hate the new system. That dead horse is thoroughly beaten. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been coveting more outfits since they started being released, though.)

“You could level a bit and then do the dungeon.”

Except that I have two small (under the age of 2) children at home and am another person who gets maybe 2 hours to play a night if I’m lucky. I CAN level, and almost certainly will eventually, but not in time to get the daily.

Seems like a lot of these changes are really geared toward trying to force “casual” gamers to be more dedicated. Thing is, as mentioned before, people really do have lives. GW1 was great because it was perfect for those who had limited time and just wanted to jump on for an hour and run a couple of quests or a mission, and I seem to recall Anet bragging about that fact. Very sad that they are continuing to choose to abandon that style for something no one really seems to like.

Edit: Sorry for not quoting properly, the formatting is mad at me for some reason and won’t show it.

I am no fan of the reduced Daily options, but today, there are 5 PvE Dailies, not just 4.

Leveler
Recycler
Daily Events
Daily Dodger
Daily Gatherer

Plus, Dungeon Completer for those that enjoy Dungeons.

Let’s be accurate with our information, at least. =)

That was my bad, and I am sorry for that. I’d already finished Daily Gatherer when I posted, and didn’t realize that it now automatically removes from the list the ones you finished. Mea culpa!

I’m not a huge fan of combining the two daily categories and making less options, but what can you do. They will always have 5 options in PvE:
<snip>

As it turns out, though, that’s not true. Today only has 4, unless you also count Dungeon Completer. Except I don’t have a character high enough level for a dungeon, so I can’t get the daily only through PVE. I don’t generally do PVP, and I can’t imagine anyone in PVP would really want me there anyway, as I have little experience, no interest, and even less skill, not to mention an old machine and laggy internet. How is this at all a change for the better?

I really wanted to like this patch, too. I guess, like a lot of others here, it’s time to start looking at other games. Seriously, Anet, this very limited list of dailies really needs to be a bug you address promptly.

All we have to do is make it clear to the players at large that if they purchase something from the GW2 store they are flushing their money down the toilet because Anet might change that item at any time so that it is useless to them. Once players understand that, GW2 (which is dependent on store sales) is in trouble.

Then I wish you luck. I don’t think it’ll work the way you hope… but good luck.

The power of bad press is amazing. If everyone who is slighted by this takes to Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and any other relevant gaming forums, you’d be surprised how effective it can be. It’s a long shot, but it’s happened plenty of times before, where enough damage has been done to the reputation of a company that they need to make good just to avoid loss. Word gets around when MMOs start having issues. It’s killed them before. If anet never makes right on this I can’t say I’d be sad if this game started dying off as well. As much as I LIKE the game, I’d rather see that happen than for travesties like this to keep happening.

This was my point. I believe I said I’m aware that nothing can be done legally. My point was that a move like this, involving real money, deeply damages the trust and reputation of a business, and I believe, personally, that will have a worse effect on Anet than Anet currently realizes.

hi everyone I just bought the the game with heroic pack. when I was in game with my thief I picked the wrong suit for my character I picked the heavy armor suit and when I confirmed it. and try to put it on i realized that I with my thief could not wear it. so my question to you all is can I transfer that armor to an other character or is there some way to make the suit useable for me? I hope some of you can answer my question.

I am pretty sure everything you buy with gemstones or real money is account bound, so if you can’t use it with your thief, you should be able to transfer it to another character. I’m not quite sure what you mean by “picked the wrong suit”; was it one of those skins you apply to other armor to change the look? In which case, it should not have let you apply it to medium armor, and yes, the skins can be freely transferred to another character to use on heavy armor. If it’s armor you bought in game, such as Vigil armor or such, it might be soulbound. Regardless, check at the bottom of the item to see if it says “soulbound” or “account bound.” If it’s account bound (or it doesn’t say anything), you can transfer it. If it says “soulbound”, you can’t, but hold on to it anyway, because that MAY change after this upcoming patch.

You can TRY to report them to the Better Business Bureau.

You’ll be laughed at, but you can TRY.

Arena.net hasn’t done anything wrong other than make a change that bitterly disappointed some customers. If that was the bar for a complaint to the BBB, every country in the United States would be guilty of fraud.

You own a copy of the game (or the license to it). You do NOT own the content within that game. If the game changes that content, you have no grounds to make any legal claims against them. That is intentional… to prevent the scenario of fans filing frivolous lawsuits every time a developer makes internal changes said fans don’t like.

You’re disappointed. It sucks. No, it isn’t what you wanted. But it’s their right as the developer to change their content however they see fit, whether you approve of it or not.

Your power as the customer is to walk away, and not support developers that don’t give you what you want.

You want Arena.net to change their mind? If enough of you use that power, they will or they will fail.

I think you completely missed my point. I’ve been reading your other posts, so I think it’s intentional, however, and not worth an argument at this point.

And here we go into left field sillyness.

Theft? Really? Come on. I get you’re disappointed, but seriously, get real.

Tell ya what. Ya really think it’s theft? Here ya go: http://www.fbi.gov/report-threats-and-crime

Follow that link, report Arena.net for theft, and see what happens.

Content within a game changes all the time, especially in MMOs. It is not theft. Period.

If you want to try and sway the opinion of a developer, accusing them of a felony probably isn’t going to tilt their ear your way.

Did you even read what he commented on entirely? He acknowledged the very fact against what you say. He’s right in the regards that it just feels morally wrong with what they’re doing to the minority of the players.

This is what bothers me the most. You are quite right, legally, there is nothing that can be done; since we spent real money on the gems, not the actual outfit (the way you bought the actual outfit in GW1), regardless of the EULA, the argument would be that you only bought the gems with the real money, and got what you paid for; you only spent in-game currency on the outfits. Splitting hairs, but great legally for them. Thing is, in every other company I have ever dealt with outside of software companies, there is a good faith effort to address and resolve consumer complaints. Even the cable companies, as per the example above, will at least try to credit an account or change the package or whatever to placate the customer, even when they claim the changes are “necessary” or “unavoidable” or whatever. Switch your steak for a pork chop and I don’t know any grocery store or restaurant that won’t take it back and at least replace it, if not fully refund it. As much as I hate the changes as proposed, I can swallow that. What disturbs me is Anet’s flat refusal to refund the gems for outfits, or to give any real credit to the complaints of the customers. Amazon, in one of the other examples above, couldn’t get away with that, for instance. I do have to say, I don’t think Anet really appreciates how deeply a refusal to at least try and make things right damages customer trust, nor how deeply that really will affect their reputation and their bottom line. They are counting on rolling out in China balancing the scales of angry US players who won’t buy more in the short term, but will come back in the long run. Perhaps they are right, but it really is a sad day when a company’s reputation and the good will of customers means so very little to a BUSINESS. I appreciate Curtis’ honest and clearly believed-in, if rather incoherent explanations, but a good business takes in stride that some customers are going to be angry, even if it does seem unreasonable, and they do what they can to act in good faith for the customer’s satisfaction. Of course, with most other business, there can be consequences for acting the way Anet is acting, such as getting reported to the BBB.
