Account temp ban adventure....

MadJack.8193

TL;DR version at the end.

On Tuesday the 9th, right after the patch, I went to bed after a long session of play. As I tried to play several hours later, I got the dreaded message:

“Account blocked due to unacceptable behavior.”

For about an hour I waited and retried as the message was sometimes changing to a timeout one. Unfortunately at that point is was evident I would have to contact support, but after some research I found out this was mostly used for “bad people”. I’m anything but a troublemaker. I barely group. I solo 90% of the time and rarely speak in chat. So I started worrying if I had said something wrong or whatever else. I was genuinely worried.

I concluded someone had had a beef with someone else and had picked me up as a virtual punching bag. That person had made a false report on me and one of the GM/Whoever implements those bans didn’t give a crap and banned me (hopefully only for 72 hours as it seemed this was the standard fare for first-time-offenders).

So I promptly opened a ticket. From this point forward, let it be said it took almost three days to have a REAL answer. For that period of time my account was inaccessible. I was NOT able to play or LOG INTO THE kitten FORUM! Really! (Why in Hell is that?!)

It turns out, there was an external booboo with ArenaNet’s 3rd-party credit card processing and my own CC and apparently payment bounced back. And thus, my account was banned. But, it wasn’t real. According to Zach (CS person) things were put back into order, my gems and what I had bought with them properly restored to my account. As soon as I could I logged-in and verified that, indeed, things were back to normal and they were.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I do understand that sometimes, crap goes wrong and things end up askew or effed up, but when that happens, be diligent! Be responsible and do the right thing. This was NOT my fault, it was yours and that 3rd-party of yours. I had NOTHING to do with that.

All I’m asking is for compensation. In my last reply to the ticket (left it open for now) I suggested a Molten Alliance pickaxe as a “We’re sorry this happened” gift. This is how it happens in real life. You make a booboo and tell your paying customers “here’s a gift for you to enjoy”.

The answer I received was:

“Please keep in mind that as a general rule, we are not able to provide any type of compensation, and that is true in the case of the Molten Alliance Mining Pick that you have requested.”

I’m sorry GM ###, but this is not a “General Rule” case. You guys are responsible for this. Not me.

Let me underline that I am also open to other forms of similar bribery (This is a joke by the way!), like any of the other unlimited gathering too, but I’ll admit I have a certain fondness to the Molten Alliance one.

All I’m asking here is to be properly compensated for the wrong done to me.

Yours truly…

TL;DR:
Got a temp ban because ANet’s 3rd-party credit-card processing effed up. Was wrongly banned. Asked for compensation, was denied even though this is no fault of mine. Asking to be properly compensated for the wrong done to me.

What if I don't follow the game's recommendation to upgrade...

Beta drivers won’t compromise your PC stability.

The potential for problems is there, that you agree with it or not. If no set of drivers have made WHQL yet since May 2012, there’s got to have some problem, somewhere wouldn’t you agree? Think about it.

The flickering terrain effect now doesn’t occur anymore and few other issues I had with water or character armor details…

I don’t run the beta drivers and I’m not experimenting that problem, or any other, except for what I consider a low FPS amount.

Just because it says BETA doesn’t mean it’s not working properly.

I never said they were inherently bad either. All I said was I don’t want to risk it. Only GW2 is having rendering slowness, wth would I take that kind of risk? There’s no reason. OTOH, if I judged there was a worthwhile fix in the beta drivers I would, most likely, switch to that version. Sadly, the changelog doesn’t say much.

Buying multiple training books.

I made the unfortunate idiocy of double clicking BUY when it was time to get my first training book. No need to say that this cut a serious dent in my fortune. Started at 28 sp, ended up with 8 sp. >.<

Since those books can’t be used twice or sold, all I could do was trash it. Then I shed a small tear as I realized a third of my fortune had vanished in a whiff of smoke. QQ

Would it be possible to have a flag stopping you from owning the same training book twice (can’t have 2 in your inventory at the same time)?

I will not compromise my system’s stability with a beta video drivers for a “couple of FPS” in one game when I can potentially break multiple games compatibility.

And, as far as “runs horrendously”… That’s worth nothing. Give me hard numbers and facts. Not a personal opinion.

Thank you.

Low FPS - [merged]

MadJack.8193

The biggest bottleneck here is the 8800. I’ll admit that 6 FPS is still pretty low. IMO he should be able to get a 20-ish FPS on medium at best, mid teen at worse.

As far as comparison to other “YouTube videos”, stop that. Your computer isn’t their computer. You can make gross estimations, but that’s the end of it. No 2 computers are the same and you’ll never get the same thing out of 2 identical ’puters either.

Finally, please stop it with the “It works great on X but not on this game”. Don’t compare apples to oranges, it never works. The only comparison you can make is similar systems running the same game. That’s it.

If you want to check if your computer kickskitten run The Witcher 2 at ultra. You will get nosebleeds.

It’s also very possible your router is getting flaky and about to die. Try connecting the modem-cable directly to your PC. If you don’t know how or are not certain about this contact your ISP. Once it’s done test the game that way.

CPU Usage problem (its NOT about hardware at all...)

@Shadeblast You do realize the CPU can (and assuredly does) do a lot more than feed the GPU’s shader engine right? You make it sound like the only thing its doing is send texture and such to the GPU…

I’ve had the same thing happen to me earlier. Only closing the game worked, and even then, it hanged when I tried to do that. I had to forcefully end the gw2.exe process.

nVidial beta drivers = input lag fix?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: MadJack.8193

MadJack.8193

Doesnt sound like local system lag aka low video/cpu performance. If you press a skill or space to jump and have a second delay then it sounds like network lag/high ping, proper lag.

I know you’re trying to help, but please don’t put words into my mouth. I never said there was a delay when using skills. When I click an ability, it triggers immediately. This is only applicable to camera movement, slightly sluggish, or when using movement keys. Jumping is the most obviously noticed.

Still, there is the possibility of network lag. Is there a way to get whatever latency we have to the server?

GW2 and CPU overheating...

Chances software (game or otherwise) will overheat a CPU is 1 in 1,000,000.

Not saying it’s impossible, but very unlikely. I would make sure your fan is working properly. Search for “CPU burn in” in google and see if that makes your CPU heat up. My guess is, it will.

nVidial beta drivers = input lag fix?

MadJack.8193

I got GW2 a couple of days ago and I can’t say that I’ve got many complaints so far.

The one and only “major” problem is the input lag. Mostly it’s a non-issue but for some puzzles (platform jumping) it’s really annoying. So far I’ve noticed up to a 1/4 of a second between the time I hit [SPACE] and the actual jump on the screen. It’s not instantaneous. It’s not tight. In general I find the camera movement, key input, etc somewhat lagging. But, as I said, it’s not an issue when you’re moving around the world, but it is very noticeable.

Now, as much as I can I will refrain from using beta drivers of any sort, unless I know it really fix issues I’m having. I’ve read the last couple of beta readmes and there’s barely a mention of GW2. I’m sure there are some improvements, but there’s nothing specific.

So, the question is: has anyone noticed if switching to beta drivers will improve or fix the input lag?

I like my games to be responsive, not molassy.

Thanks.

Count yourself lucky as Intel graphic is on the lowest rung of the gaming video hardware ladder. There is nothing else to support as far as low-end hardware goes.

(Not talking about older generation stuff here which has an inherent hardware limitation in them and can’t be supported)
