Definition of Ranger

in Ranger

Mage.6045

My opinion is as follows:
Ranger is a guy who wanders around wilderness. He may be protecting some area or just passing through who knows. Rangers prefer the life of solitude mostly since they are in their element while they are in the wilderness. They travel light so they carry only what they need = what is usefull. Some rangers that would come to my mind would be Aragorn from lord of the rings and rangers from books of R.A.Salvatore (the serie that has the book “demon awakens” or something like that. Have not red the english version of those books)

In Guild Wars 2 I would say that the feel of the ranger fits to my description. (ofcource since I’m writing…) traitlines are named after skills you might need in wilderness.

Marksmanship: explains itself. If you need to hunt or fight some hostiles it is good to know how to strike from afar.
Skrimishing: you should be able to defend yourself in close range aswell since missed ahot might mean that your enemy (be it wolf or bandit) gets too close.
Naturw magic: you are going to spend lots of time in the wilderness so you might get attuned with nature and spirits thus the wilderness is with you and not against you.
Wilderness survival: if wilderness is not with you you dont have a problem.
Beastmastery: you dont need to be alone all the time since you can commune with the animals.

I wont say anything about the traits since I dont know them all…

Even the weapons ranger uses are good picks in my opinion. Why no pistols and rifles? They need maintanence more than a sword or bow (I think…). If you run out of ammo you would have to go to city to buy more. Arrows could be crafted with some skills without the.need to leave wilderness. Swords can break but broken sword can still be dangerous and sharp. Broken rifle is pretty useless unless you use it as a club… Which will probably just brake it more.

Would like to write more but writing with phone is tireing. So sorry for typos and bad english if there was some. All of this is my opinion ofcource so feel free to disagree or agree with me.

Personal story disappointment

in Personal Story

Mage.6045

I personally liked personal story. Yes it feels like all that happens in different world but that is my personal story. If I feel alon I can ask my friend to join me.

“Hmmm, i gotta finish few of those boring instanced missions before i can move onto the next area :/”

You mean you can move to next story? If you dont like the story then why do it? It does not stop you from doing 100% world exploration (believe me I did that before compleating my personal story). It is just there to define who your character is and where he/she came from, what he/she did etc.

I’d still prefer that my personal choices would not affect the hole game and how it is shown to other people. Other than I was in that battle for this city and it is still under our control (which is what dynamic events are for). Dont know if any of this made any sense but that is my opinion.

Have fun playing you all!

I have one lvl 80 character and I just did arah story with 2 of my friends. True we were lucky that arah gates were open (we actually fought to keep them open before entering.). Still we had to recruit 2 more but we got there. I think it is not entirely bad idea. All of the other dungeon stories lead up to destiny’s edge being there and your personal story leads you there. Zhaitan is quite big enemy (generally speaking) that I would not go agains it soloing… Besides you could not make so epic (in my opinion) scenes work without other players to help you. A battle of that magnitude demands more players than 1. That is my opinion anyway.

Can't we get a better & more fun F1 ability?

GW2’s PvE experience is one of the worst in MMO history.

Please tell me you are joking… but then again you have right to have your opinion on the matter.

I think steal is pretty neat.. OK I have not played thief so much. I only have level 19 thief. Still I like steal and I’m going to make it part of my build. It does give you initiative and shadowstep to get in melee range and then random stuff that might give you a chance for stealth attack.

But hey that is how I feel…

Mail and Black Lion not working

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Mage.6045

Mage.6045

I saw that similiar things have happened to other players but I didin’t find any helpful information. (I might be just lazy)

The problem is: I sent a bow that I made to my friend on another server (Underworld —-> Anvil Rock) and earlier he had sended me some money to buy the ingredients which worked fine. Well my friend never got the bow when I sent it and now I can’t send any more mail. It gives the message “Processing previous mail”.

At the same time this started my black lion also started acting up. I can’t sell my items anymore. When I try to sell it gives the message “Error attempting to sell”.

I sended a bug report but does any of you guys have past or present experiences with this issue? As I noticed it is not new issue.

How did the 6 ancient races fail?

in Lore

Posted by: Mage.6045

Mage.6045

Even with current technologie, isnt it a bit dumb to think that 10 people could kill an elder dragon and pretty much his whole army, even with technology, that 6 ancient races could not kill 5? the 10 people with technology should still be weaker than ONE of the ancient races,

Against the dragon alone.. I think 10 tech guys might be able to pull it off.
But the main thing is I think that to get those 10 guys TO the dragon you have to fight through his minions. To me Orr does look like a hellish place and that’s where the advantage of having technology shows itself.

So I think those ancient races failed to overcome the hordes of undead. It is pretty though job even with pact and their technology.

So umm, why do you play an Asura?

I don’t play Asura (they just don’t strike me that way) but I do think that they are an awesome race. I think Anet worked wonders creating them. Still I don’t feel like playing one.. strange…

But their laughing animation is SO over the top and it fits their personality so well… I mean what other race would you see rofling

Mage.6045

I don’t get all the hate against ranger profession but then I’m me… Yes I have been reading forums and all the complaints (which most of topics here are of…). But even after all that complaining I read through I still enjoy playing my ranger immensely. Only thing I’m kind of fed up with ranger is this ranger forum that is just full of negative stuff. Remember guys that this is my personal opinion so don’t burn me too bad for it.

But to you OP if you found your peace at some other profession I wish luck and nice gaming hours to you!

Kicked for the lack of a ranged weapon.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Mage.6045

I’d say that refusing to switch weapons is a WAAAY bigger problem with Rangers and the Longbow though, than with any Guardians, to the point that I avoid Rangers where possible when I’m not running with my static.

Heh you just made my day … Actually my friend is a ranger and when we told him that GS would be better against the burrows at AC (in the middle of the run I might ad) he was like “huh… well wait a sec I’ll go buy one”. I too play a ranger and I have no problem of jumping from ranged to melee with a push of a button. But then everyone is not like me so I’ll give that one to you

Ok now for this post. I agree with some of these guys that you should not completely take out the option of going ranged. If you feel comfortable with melee fine use it or ask your team to bear with you one fight before they kick you… and if it goes well then you have proven your point. if it does not go well then just go with the team and pick up that staff/scepter or leave.

Swamp Fractal is Absurd.

Mage.6045

Problems with this:
Trip wire TOO hard to see – make them more noticeable. I basically have to memorize them all to jump over.

Um I think the idea of a trip wire is to be not easily noticeable.

I personally liked this fractal. Even thought it took me about 5 times to finally figure it out. I finally realized that I could only get the whisp to its place by using the side entrances as other entrances would grow roots…

Too bad I didn’t get to finish that run as my party did not get it and wanted to restart. : (.

It is funny how SOMETIMES (not always) people just say that this is too hard just because they cant run it through and/or they don’t have the patience to figure it out. (not everyone as I said)

Love the dungeon so far but hey I’m overly positive person anyway.

Skipping Kholer. Not on.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Mage.6045

Mage.6045

I think what you will find is that a whole group of people can’t beat Kholer because they have never fought Kholer.

This makes no sense at all. Kholer is easy but not worth the time.

Well I think that kind of was the point. Kholer is easy yes and people skip it because it is waste of time. So new players (yes there are and will be new players I’m sure) wont so easily get the chance to fight Kholer if they go with groups that tend to skip him.

So even thought he is easy to beat some players might not experience the easiness due to them always skipping him. That makes a whole lot of sense to me atleast but feel free to disagree

edit:
Thus these unexperienced players have not trained in the art of dodging Kholer’s pull attack

Why Do People Dislike Their Rangers?

in Ranger

Posted by: Mage.6045

Mage.6045

Why all the dislike to rangers? Because people are different and playing ranger does not suit everyone’s mindset/interest etc. aand then there are those that worry about stats and so on but I enjoy my ranger immensely. I use spirits because I like them. I know some people say they are bad but I enjoy them and that is all I need to enjoy playing ranger.

That is my personal opinion so feel free to trash it if it does not suit you.

Support Role in Dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Mage.6045

Mage.6045

Well for support there are ranger spirits… I know a lot of people say they are bad but I like them. Nature spirit is quite handy at ressing downed allies and other spirits have attacks (chill, immobile, blind, damage) to make enemies life a bit harder if they come close enough (+ the boons spirits give). But that is just my opinion feel free to trash it if it is not to your liking

I ask PUGs as soon as I join if they fight or not, a group 80’s tend not to, and are generally pretentious kittens in that case, I just leave then and there.

Oh by the way what does that PUG stand for? Saw it couple of times on the post but didn’t quite figure it out.

I personally like to kill him. I don’t really see his loot bad you can make some money out of it and for me it is just part of the experience to have my bag full of stuff. So I don’t get the fuss of “crappy loot” and “trash mobs” having too much hp but hey that is just my personality speaking.

I never have had problems with kholer pulling me during dodge… I bet you were doding backwards or forward for that to happen but I can be wrong.
