The sheer amount of crying about the events has lead me to not want to read anything in here anymore. Given, official forums are usually the place that the vocal minority go to be as angry as possible and post about OP this or “need moar lootz” that, but I feel bad for all the Anet employees that have to read these atrocious posts. The most horrific thing I’ve seen so far are the posts saying “Let’s not have a wintersday event”. Are you seriously turning down free content? Amazing, high quality, intensely engaging content? Maybe I’m crazy for wanting more but somehow not wanting content this good for free seems stupid to me. I don’t think people realize how much work and effort goes into events like this. More work and effort than any other MMO (that has holiday events) that I can recall. I remember reading that they had been working for 2-3 months on the Halloween event and the whole thing was overshadowed by rage from the clocktower jumping puzzle (which, I admit, took me over 2 hours but I don’t think there was a better feeling in the world than when I finally beat it.)
I understand the lag and disconnects were awful. I did the event twice. I know exactly what everyone is talking about. I got rolled over by invisible karka more times than I could count and I even got disconnected just before the final fight on my second time. Did it suck? Yes, it was awful but things happen and MMO’s are an imperfect science. I can also understand that people are upset with just how good the loot was from a one time event. While I agree the loot was a little too good for something like this, it’s not a reason for them to stop making the content itself.
All I’m saying is temper your hatred and flames with a little appreciation for the chance to even be able to take part in something like this. The content left behind from this event, the new map but moreso the fractals dungeon, is utterly amazing. Probably the best dungeon I’ve ever done in my 13 year MMO career and yet all anyone can talk about is the lag and disconnects from the one time event.
So please, stop saying you don’t want more free content and show some appreciation to all of the hard working people at ArenaNet.
And to ArenaNet, please, please, please keep doing what you’re doing. I know it hasn’t always gone perfectly but I also know I’m not the only one who truly enjoys and appreciates what you’re trying to do.
I think the problem is people are so babied when it comes to challenging content (in MMOs) that after only a few tries, they decide its not worth it and quit. Have a little perseverance and think about the situation. Figure it out. You’re not gonna magically beat it by just zerging every time. People in MMOs just want to be handed stuff for doing nothing now a days and that makes me sick. I love this dungeon and I hope it doesn’t get changed to appease the few who hate it.
