You use underwater skill 1… #2 is unlocked level 8, then 14, 17, and 23.

I just want to quickly add, there are some errors on this chart of how stuff is unlocking, as well as 1st character vs. account unlocks when some of these systems were carried between regions. We’re trying to identify what happened and repair those things assigned the wrong account/character fields, as well as levels.

This makes sense, thank you for letting us know

But please, I’m begging you, improve the QA. Better yet, release a PTR. Use placeholder rewards/etc so people can’t use it to play the live market…

Quoting this so that we don’t forget that some people still haven’t received their reward from season 1.

Do you have nothing better to do? S1 rewards were terrible, move on already.

Thanks for the update Mark. Never forget there’s thousands more people who enjoy playing the game, and who don’t wave their self entitled fingers all over the forums.

Does not mean I should not get my rewards for the effort I put into it.

Still love to see getting my Mini Dolyak and Tomes of Knowledge atleast.

Who said something about developer ???
You don’t need to be a developer to answer questions about the direction the game is heading ?
?
Do you really think Mark has no idea what’s going on ?
????
Is he coming to the office every morning and is told “mark don’t ask any questions about GW2, it’s not your job. You just talk with the comunity about anything but GW”

The developers probably wouldn’t tell CS or forum staff exactly what they’re working on until it’s finalised as well, just like they don’t tell us. If development plans change what’s the point? Then the reps would be running off old info and could potentially spread misinformation. My guess is once forums staff know what’s happening, they’re getting ready to or are already releasing the news to the players as well.

Unless you are pressing one physical key per each individual action, it is not permitted. Anything that presses multiple buttons per single user button-press or key-press is not allowed.

How comes you guys are able to find time to answer to something incredible unimportant like playing an instrument but we don’t hear anything about the future
or status of the game ??

Stuff like that really annoys me especially when A-Net always says they don’t have time to answer

Because Mark isn’t a developer. Do you people read or are just plain idiots?

Being a tad insulting with that last statement, not everyone knows who is and isn’t a dev, a little decorum please.

Puh-lease, it says “Community Special Operations” right under his name. Not “Game Designer”, “Guild Wars 2 ~~” or any development position.

Nevermind I checked Kurrilino.2706’s post history, I’m going to go with “ignorant and self entitled”. Sorry, I was directing it at people like him, not at everyone in this thread. Not being in the most patient of moods doesn’t help either.

I’d rather they’d fix their engine to use more CPU cores and GPU properly first, and maybe add DX11 support?

Also, we need moving platforms.

Optimising CPU/GPU usage more would be nice, but DX11 support will do squat and bring very little to the table but more compatibility issues and divided focus.

DX11 would bring performance gains (with prettier effects) and according to Steam over 50% of users have a DX11 capable setup.

Obviously they would need to spend a bit more time to maintain two client renderers.

Come to think of it, I don’t think they’ve done anything with the client renderer since the few months after launch, if we don’t count culling changes.

Maybe it would be time to hire some client programmers?

Maybe, but it’s quite a lot of effort for minimal reward.

Assets have to be optimised for DX11 before it’s even noticeable, you would have to create displacement maps for everything you want to use it, not to mention the ridiculous poly-count for any practical purpose in games.

If they don’t fix their bottlenecks DX11 has no advantages whatsoever. DX11’s prettier effects can also come with worse performance and issues, just because it’s newer and better doesn’t mean it has to be done, or that it’s worth it.

there will be new traits anyway, so you can experience it for those new traits.

(personally, I’m levelling my alts as fast as I can.)

Definitely! Having 40 new ones to hunt is still good, and a new alt after the patch is an option, but it can’t hurt to suggest.

You can relax on the alt levelling though, they’ve mentioned somewhere any character made before the patch will only have the new traits to hunt.

Then this content is not for you.

This entire game was never for you. It was supposed to be easier and more casual. Not another WoW Raidfest.

Difficult content is sorely needed,

No, it’s not.

Just sit this one out, it’s blatantly obvious this is not for you, so realise this and stop forcing your opinion onto others that play to challenge and improve themselves.

If you want a relaxing experience there’s plenty of other options for you. Like singleplayers.

If you want challenge, there is literally every other mmo out there. There’s even Korean Grinders for you to gnash your teeth at. I shouldn’t be relegated to singleplayer games just because I want something easy.

Furthermore, do challenge seekers sit out the easy content? No, they do it in two hours and then complain that it wasn’t challenging. Why should I have to sit out content while they get to do easy content, complain about it, and then also get hard content that excludes people?

You have a lot of nerve to tell me not to force my opinion on others only to then force your opinion on me.

I’ll say this much on that: At least when I want an easy game, it doesn’t exclude anyone from experiencing the content or the rewards.

GW2 was never supposed to be easy or casual, it was supposed to be accessible. And it is, the only problem you have is you downright refuse to improve. That’s not the games fault, and no matter what you think, games IRL and virtual are all about improving, improving personal skills, teamwork, player relations, and seeing progression.

Harder content is needed. I do not mean incredibly harder, I mean content that engages players a lot more, encourages communities, and gives people a reason to log on more often excited for what they’re about to do. Marionette and Wurm did that, and you want the game so easy it potentially removes that?

I do not enjoy grinds either, so you won’t see me in a korean mmo. I’ve played many mmos, and have already experienced a lot of hard, exclusive content. GW1 and 2 are the ones I enjoy the most, and I expect the same level of challenging content in GW2 as there is in GW1.

I’m not forcing anything, I suggested options. You have a lot of nerve to expect everything in an mmo to only be catered to your liking, and once something you don’t like comes up you stomp your feet screaming “no no no I refuse to improve, make it easy” when the natural progression of games is skill/gear improvement through challenges.

No one is excluded, people like you are just giving up because you can’t spam buttons and succeed first try. Do you honestly believe unsuccessful encounters mean players are being excluded? Time, and gear gating is excluding, and there’s none of that. Even overflows full of randoms and no commanders are beating marionette, so stop this nonsense. You’ve had a year of easy gaming, and one difficult boss after all this time is unacceptable?

Well, I defended these new events at first..

I could give a rip about what Anet “giveth” and what Anet “taketh away”, however what I do give a rip about is what I spend on it. I had just finished loading my toons with 30 gold worth of pets and potions {adds up when you have 8 toons} and now they have become worthless. GIVE ME A REFUND NOW! I am sick of spending my hard earned gold on gear, weapons, pets, and tonics that become worthless soon after I buy them.

You accepted an agreement stating it’s their game that they can change at their own discretion. Besides, don’t you think something was going to be done about it considering every man and his dog were buying stacks of embers/whistles? Not to mention there has been previous changes to other consumables.

No wonder ANet needed to add more ways to monopolise tpvp, you’re all such cheapskates.

I’m willing to bet I’ve spent more money on this game, strictly as a pvper, than you have.

In this particular instance, in lieu of templates, I have purchased characters slots. I have 28 characters. I’ll be kitten ed if I’m going to farm pve to get skill points for pvp.

Is that all purchases in total? I’m game. 10g? Joining 10 matches together?

It would appear ANet want some kind of progression in pvp skill acquisition. 25 points off the bat is definitely a bad idea, but I have a feeling some of these players are not going to be happy unless it’s account wide unlocks (and totally free too! /s), which could take a bit more time and work than ANet are wanting to do right now.

I’d give anything for build templates though. Anything.

Then it’s not free content is it?

And yes they do need money to make content. But there are multiple ways to do that and a focus on the gem-store in not a good one in my opinion.

I went for GW2 mainly because they asked money for the game and because they worked with a B2P system with GW1 so I expected the same in GW2. I did know they had a gem-store but that does not mean a cash-shop focus. It’s that cash-shop focus why I never like F2P games and now GW2 is going the same rout as every F2P game.

Really really bad for a game as GW2.

Yes the content is free, considering the transaction is not for content but for a cosmetic change you deem worthy enough to purchase. You don’t need to pay for a new hair style and you would still get new content. Pretty sure that makes it free.

You know GW1 and GW2 are exactly the same; pay extra for cosmetics (and some extra missions), get the bulk of content with your initial purchase. I see nothing bad or wrong with that.

It’s pretty obvious you stingy lot have made up your mind. You’d be the death of companies if anyone listened to you.

Say what you want, your comment that some of us "want everything just handed to " us deserved that response. “Self entitled?” Bullkitten. I can practically guarantee that I have worked harder in real life for what I have than you have, and I have a great deal to show for it as a result. I just don’t see the carryover to a video game that I play as a diversion from such matters.

Besides, it’s pretty silly of you to warn ANet to ignore the 90% or so respondents to this topic that disagree with you. I would say that ANet does so at their peril.

/sarcasm Because what you and I have worked for IRL is absolutely relevant to what kind of character progression developers want in their game…

Again, you’re misunderstanding me. That specific comment was directed to Strang.8170, I haven’t meant to portray that everyone wants everything handed to them. I also didn’t warn ANet to ignore everybody that disagrees with me, I said it’s their game, they know more than we do, and no matter what happens people will complain, so don’t completely buckle under the pressure. Of course they should take feedback into account, but do what they think is best. For all we know they could come up with some crazy hybrid account wide+character bound progression system.

“If ArenNet is stupid enough to listen to your advice instead of listening to the feedback from their customers , they deserve to go out of business too. I paid for this game, and so deserve every new addition to the game AFTER I paid progressed and unlocked for me, yet when I get fed up I won’t tell ANet what they did wrong, I want them to keep screwing up, and I want them to go out of business” is exactly the kind of talk I meant for them to ignore. I paid for this game too, and we’re getting a kitten good deal for our money as it is. It is very self entitled for people to think they deserve everything thereafter their way, simply because they previously bought the game.

This has run it’s course, I hope we get something we both can enjoy. Good day.

You want everything just handed to you don’t you.

You mean because we paid real life money for a game that was hyped to have little to no grind? Yeah, pretty much that. Video games are entertainment, not some real-life character-building experience. I don’t have to earn the right to see a movie that I pay for, I don’t have to earn the right to buy a ticket to a basketball game, and I don’t have to earn the right to watch a concert on TV. I shouldn’t have to slog my way through anything to enjoy WvW the way it was originally portrayed, with an immediate focus on skill, strategy, and tactics and without the need to grind for anything of substance.

Take your misdirected sanctimonious crap elsewhere …

Ugh, are you self entitled or what. You didn’t read anything did you. No one has said it will be a slog, we don’t even know how difficult it will be to progress, and we don’t know how beneficial the skills are yet. With how easy 1-80 is now I highly doubt it will a terribly grind. If anything character bound progress will bring more skill, strategy, and tactics to the field, as the buffs/skills could encourage some sweet emergent gameplay, with our characters having a more defined role in WvW.

If you’re going to completely disregard everything I said, only to ignorantly insult me and exaggerate something you know nothing of, then you are one of those people I kindly warned ANet not to listen to.

New WvW progress, character or account bound?

in WvW

Posted by: Mank.2183

Mank.2183

See you’re basing your assumptions off of your personal preferences, you don’t mind grinding the same thing over and over and over again for all your alts, however for myself that sounds like the definition of boring. You feel that the reason they’re making this progression character bound instead of account bound is to make sure it isn’t trivialized, to me I see this as a means to control the amount of progression there is and make sure that players choose specific goals rather than having the freedom to experience multiple ways to progress. If you’re cool with grinding the same thing over and over then that’s awesome, but for me I’d like the option of playing whatever character I like on any given day in WvW and not feeling like I’m starting from scratch. To each their own.

I do mind grinding, that’s why I gear my alts for different experiences. I understand your worries, but the point of character progression is to bring meaning to how a character progresses and what they specialise in. You won’t get that with account wide systems, even if xp is account bound and abilities are character bound. I’m sure account based xp would be helpful if done right, but the effort in balancing xp gained on an 80 that you then use on a lower level doesn’t seem worth the effort, especially when suitable level rewards are already in place for characters.

To me, account wide progress will combine the experience in such a way that either most of my alts feel very similar, I have less emotional attachment to them, I am forced to play an 80 to level an alt efficiently (or WvW account xp on an 80 could be so nerfed that I may as well play all my alts), or that the choices I make per character are overall pointless.

~To others~

Some of you are forgetting what “RPG” means. ANet are giving us an alternative/extended character progression. First in WvW, but considering they deem WvW as part of the pve framework, there’s a good chance this system could be extended to pve. You do not see expansions that raise the level cap, or add alternative advancements make progress account wide.

Anyway, we don’t know how beneficial the skills are yet, nor do we know how difficult it will be to progress in the new system. People are acting as if they’ll make this a massive grind, won’t listen to any feedback, can’t change the curve, and are unable to make this viable for alts.

Little more grind added to multiple little grinds, even if it´s “just a little grind” doesn´t mean it´s ok.

You want everything just handed to you don’t you.

Making World XP (and by extension, titles / ranks) character bound over account bound is a horrible mistake.

Habib said it himself, “The best way to think of this system is as alternative/extended character progression.” You want pve xp to be account wide too?

Judging by how easy levelling is, the new system probably won’t be the end of the world either, and I’m looking forward to specialising on all of my alts. ANet have made it character specific for a reason, I’d guess that having it account wide takes away most of the meaning, for both the progression and specialisations they have planned.
