I’d rather the orbs boost magic find. 10-15% in BL only to draw people into WvW. The previous mechanics were fine. I loved how people chased after the orbs – felt like a football game played across the countryside.

Because magic find’s really going to help you when your keep is going down. Maybe you can stay alive long enough to get something good enough to pay your repair bill? Lol..

I like the idea of having a dungeon in WvW, something similar to Tol Barad in WoW or Beshmundir Temple in Aion.

It would also give incentive to those players who prefer PvE to get out there.

Hi there, Leader of EPIC here. I’m poor. Can I enter this lottery? I spend all my money on keep and tower upgrades.

I cannot help but notice the now redundant altars whenever a keep is taken in WvW. I had somewhat of an idea that would be both a help, and incentive to defend these keeps and putting altars back to use.

Introduction:

My idea was sort of inspired by the altars in Aion. In Aion there were multiple altars surrounding forts which could aid in both an offensive and defensive way. A guild needed to clear and claim these altars, then needed a specific item which they could craft or buy to activate it. However, only the guild could activate said altar. The altar then would place a debuff or a buff on the area surrounding the fort for a limited amount of time.

Now you’re probably thinking, how would this work in GW2?

Altar Alternative:

Ever since Orbs were removed from WvW, altars have lost their purpose in WvW, and overall incentive to defend a keep with no orb is low.

Breakdown:

[*] First a guild must have claim to a keep in WvW.

[*] That guild must have Art of War ranked to 5.

[*] With a certain amount of influence, that guild can then purchase 6 “Orbs.”

[*] These Orbs can then be used to activate the altar for a certain effect for a limited amount of time.

[*] The effected area spans the same amount of distance that fort buffs would. So any enemy or ally within that radius will be affected.

[*] Once an altar has been activated it is placed on a cooldown. This prevents people from spamming orbs.

ORBS:

- Orb of Kormir- Blinds all enemies within target keep radius for [X] seconds. This effect cannot be removed unless the altar is damaged.

- Orb of Grenth- Chills all enemies within target keep radius for [X] seconds. This effect cannot be removed unless the altar is damaged.

- Orb of Melandru- Poisons all enemies within target keep radius for [X] seconds. This effect cannot be removed unless the altar is damaged.

- Orb of Lyssa- Confuses all enemies within target keep radius for [X] seconds. This effect cannot be removed unless the altar is damaged.

-Orb of Balthazar. Burns all enemies within target keep radius for [X] seconds. This effect cannot be removed unless the altar is damaged.

-Orb of Dwayna- Heals all allies within target keep radius for [X] seconds. This effect cannot be removed unless the altar is damaged.

Scenario:

Say you’re inside of your garrison. It is the last keep you have on your map and everyone in that borderland is there trying to defend it. The enemy has heavy momentum and is ripping through the gates or walls.

The guild who claimed the garrison goes into their guild tab, art of war, and then purchases one of the orbs with influence. Then they move to the altar inside of the garrison, place whichever orb they chose on the altar and activate it.

The enemies are pouring through the gates now, making their way into the lords room, where you and your server wait to make your final defense. All of a sudden, the enemies are blind, poisoned, chilled, burned, confused, or you’re gaining a bit of health back every couple of seconds. You use the limited amount of time you have while the debuff or buff is active to try to hold your keep.

Conclusion:

While some may complain that this suggestion may be giving an unfair advantage, I believe not. Just like some can purchase buffs they can place on a fort when they claim it, purchase siege with influence, this is a minor help in comparison to orbs.

There’s no risk of an orb being hack or exploited, as the debuff or buff cause by the orb will only last for less than a minute or until the altar has been damaged. There will be a cooldown on the altar, so orbs cannot be spammed.

That’s pretty poor form if you ask me. I hope you catch em. We don’t condone those kind of shenanigans. We prefer to win via moose and owl sneak attacks.

Unfortunately it’s been happening a lot this match up. On all of our servers. There’s been several times where you could walk into a supply camp filled with nothing but rams.

Heh, thanks. But you have to realize when there is accusations of a guild/server doing not so honorable stuff, it only takes those few people to ruin it for everyone else. Whether it be ruining the image of their guild or their server. Its unacceptable.

In [EPIC]’s case, a majority of us have not been in WvW this week ( I admit.). This is not to be offensive in any way, but we simply do not see how a match up like this is fun. Our main force was out primarily during Friday-Sunday, after that.. It seemed a little redundant.

As a commander it is definitely not fun to lead people to and from one or two supply camps and towers consistently. So most of the guild’s taking the time to enjoy the Halloween events we missed out on this weekend.

If you see any one else from [EPIC] doing something ridiculous, please don’t hesitate to report them, or contact me in game, or on here.

Thanks for reporting them, however if I’m not present I do not know who is exploiting. Do you possibly have any screenshot, or a time frame of when this happened? It would make it a lot easier on me to find the culprits an kick them out of the guild. I do not condone hacking/exploiting/poor sportsmanship in my guild.

After some investigating, I found out who the four players were. They are being removed from the guild. Thanks again for making me aware of this.

I am not going to lie. Tonight we were outplayed by Anet. I know many of the WvW guilds for TC had players experiencing the dreaded disconnect issue after the update and that was more discouraging than the score, causing quite a few to say kitten it and log.

Day 1 goes to SoR.

We will be bringing it the rest of the week and I look forward to more intense fighting.

That’s what I’m talking about. It’s only the first day. I’ve watched servers make crazy comebacks. Some as much as 50K in one day.

I’m jealous.. You guys look like you’re having a great match up so far.

Not much of a match up, Mara. We will keep fighting, you can count on that, but this whole system is broken.

Just stay motivated, I’m sure if anything we can all learn new stuff out of this match up as we have been each time we fight new servers. We learned so much from SoS last week.

Well, thanks for not throwing in the towel but I really wish people would just get out there regardless of the situation and try. The past two weeks have been SoR v ( Insert server that tries here.) and then the oddball 3rd server that gives up and who generally just equates to a minor annoyance. People really forget how dynamic things can become when a server is being pressured by 2 others.

If anything, TC and ET should work together to attempt to take SoR down. It’d be fun for everyone. Isn’t that what WvW is about? A challenge? I don’t know. I’ve been wrong many times before.

Not looking like much fun.. Hope that changes.

that was exactly our guilds process as well, halloween patch, everyone waiting for patch downloading it asap, and yes you guessed it right back in wvw ^^

as a player on the NA guild, my guild consistently have a group of players that stay up til 4, 6 am close to everyday for this match up way past our ‘prime time’ putting literally 8~12 hours per day everyday.

personally, i haven’t even done one halloween event or quest, as a lot of the ppl in my guild haven’t also.

And no, trust me wvwing at 4am 6am server, most of the sor presence were non NA guilds, such as CRS and ND, both of which are large xfers from hod. Big props to them and their presence, great job.

Epic is great opponents too during NA prime time ^^

Well, I’m glad you guys come out there, your server should be proud to have your guild. ( We lose a lot of sleep in EPIC aswell. X) )

Actually going to step in SoS’s Oceanic defense here and say this.

Alot of SoR knows Oceanic players do not have the best connections/internet providers. That patch was a good chunk. We also knew people would be distracted by the Halloween event.

Here was some of SoR’s ( or atleast EPIC’s thought process last night. )

" So, after the patch, straight to WvW, it’ll be empty most likely."
“Ok.”
" Oceanic people are going to be loading this patch for hours. We should make our move now."
“Ok.”
" Ques are instant."
“Ok. But.. What about candy corn?”
“There’s candy corn in WvW.”
“Ok. WvW it is!”

You can’t really blame the Oceanic players on SoS for losing everything last night when they couldn’t even connect. Instead, the NA players should have foreseen this and held out until the night time forces were on, instead of trick or treating. Can’t really blame NA at the same time for playing the game either.

I’ve been getting my butt kicked in mini-golf by old people today. I would have much rather spent all day in WvW. Good to see the match-up is still fairly close. Can’t wait to see what the weekdays will hold!

Personally, I’ve opted not to turn my commander on for the rest of this week. This is not WvW.. I don’t know what this is, but its not fun. There is no strategy, no tactic…

Not my definition of WvW. No offense to Yaks or GoM, but its equally demoralizing to those who do try on SoR when our enemies take the back seat.

You know, as someone who spends admittedly too many hours in WvW, it really bothers..No, almost offends me that people are accrediting our success on SoR to these “transfer guilds” we received. Like SoR wasn’t doing well before hand or something.

I mean for kittens sake, stop pointing fingers, playing the blame game, and the poor sportsmanship, from all sides. Take responsibility for lack of participation, motivation, players, and move on, learn from your losses or mistakes. What is all this nonsense going to achieve in the end? Do not sit here and belittle each other over something so menial that will not even be remembered in a few months.

SoR, show some dignity. Yes, we are winning. Fantastic. Grow complacent, and we will fall right back to where we started. I for one, and I know the other guilds who have spent the past weeks helping the server in WvW do not appreciate this sort of behavior. Guilds from other servers who have just now transferred here this week, like I said, I welcome you, however, please do not pretend like you are knights in shining armor here to save SoR. SoR has been doing fine and will continue to do so if that is what our community wants.

And the poor sportsmanship begins..

SoR can’t help it that guilds decided to transfer here. Personally I do not like the idea of this massive lead we have, and I honestly wish Yaks and GoM could change that. SoR’s been all about progression, and I believe if we move up too fast it can be detrimental to the server. Slow and steady wins the race.

As for the guilds who have transferred to SoR, I’m glad you’re here. I can finally sleep! However, I hope that you respect what community we have establish on this server and leave any elitism at the door. I also hope you are here to stay, and don’t abandon ship the moment something goes wrong.

Well, its really unfortunate to have to say this but maybe the loss will humble GoM, and you will do well enough in the lower brackets to regain your motivation. Use DH as a shining example. You can only fall so far before climbing back to the top.

However, keep at it. I would love to see what you guys are capable of when full motivated, those who have tried on GoM, my hat’s off to you for putting up a good fight.

(A) Even those without an icon have a voice. If there are motivated individuals on your server trying to rally the troops who are commanders, embrace them, do not turn a blind eye to their efforts.

“2) We’re not asking you to stop fighting. That’s plain stupid.”

(B) Never said you were asking us to stop fighting, however.. People complain about the “number” situation without realizing, both servers still have numbers, what they lack is morale. Our ques are full because we are winning, and like any other server who is winning, the players wish to be a part of that. When a server is losing, it is very hard to get people to participate, but you have to keep trying to convince them to come make a difference.

“3) Guilds transferring off of GoM because of the stupidity of the people on the server, and their inability to follow coordination. It has nothing to do with fidelity. I know many guilds who have put 150% into WvW, but are burnt out and GoM hasn’t improved. Why stay and why put 150% with zero changes? You tell me.”

C) SoR was in a similar rut when the game first launched as many guilds on our server wished to get level 80 or do PvE content first, it was extremely frustrating to guilds who spent all day in WvW, they burned out really quickly. However, instead of leaving the server, they reached out to the other guilds on SoR. More started to participate, and things became more balances so that our WvW guilds could get some breaks.

“4) The commanders rally. But the commanders are part of the problem. With the exception of 5% of commanders, the rest are as clueless as the zerg is. They are undeserving of their icon. They have no open mind, no leadership, and keep repeating what fails.”

(D) Every server has their good and “bad” commanders, and I agree there’s not much you can do about that. But on SoR, those commanders who are “bad” are generally weeded out by the community because they refuse to follow them. In your case I do not think you can do this because of the point you made below.

“5) The commanders will not change, because they have a base of followers (zerg), that blindly follow them.”

(E) The only real suggestion I have is that your server has a “commander” meeting or a “guild meeting” or some sort of meeting to get all of your commanders on the same page. If they refuse to change, they need to be made aware that your current course your server is on is NOT benefiting the community and they need to step up and be more open minded.

But there are many amazing commanders on SoR that I love working with and they deserve some recognition too, just to name some.

Miasmic, Alpaca Owl, Bavragor, Brew Lord, Xumx, Revamm, Zodak… Lack of sleep is ruining my memory, lol. But let it be known that SoR has no lack of amazing commanders, and thank some of you for being insomniacs so I could stop being a worry wort and get some rest! <3

To YB, and GoM… Please read this and try to gain some motivation out of it.

You can blame numbers, you can blame transfers, you can blame zergs, you can blame anything honestly.. But in the end, you as servers are only entitled to what you put effort into getting. You cannot logically sit here and point fingers when you know what is causing your servers to do poorly right now. Take responsibility rally up, and do something about it. SoR’s not going to stop fighting, or ease up because your servers do not wish to try right now, and neither should you. Shame on any guilds transferring off of YB or GoM, show some fidelity to your server and man up to help them. To the commanders on YB and GoM, rally your servers. That symbol on your head is more than just a pug magnet, you are supposed to be an example, a guide. If you are using it you have to keep an open mind and work with others, or no one will listen to you or follow you.

Now you’re wondering why you’ve probably read this, or what the point was.. And its this. Just like in a real war, motivation can carry spirits high. Even if you are losing, never give up, fight to the last breath, and know when a battle is lost so you can prepare for the next. Find those on your servers who motivate you, or be motivating to them, but don’t set false expectations or become complacent. In the end, your server is entitled to only that which you have worked for, if you do not work for it then do not expect to gain anything. If you leave your server because you are not winning, how does that help your community? Any one of these servers can be molded, but its up to your community and only your community.
