[Weapon Bug]
Name: Aether
Type: Shortbow
Character name: Mardets

The shortbow should have a pulsing particle effect that lights the weapon up every few seconds along with the aura particle effect. This pulsing effect is shown in the preview of the weapon and on the character window.

Attached is the pulsing effect that should be shown.

COE Exp Sub path- Subject Alpha?

True, CoE is harder than most dungeons, but that’s what make it fun. The thing about CoE’s Alpha is that you always have to be on your toes with him. You slack off and you die.

It’s not just about the teamwork, although teamwork does play an important role in defeating Alpha, but it’s also about knowing the game mechanics when dealing with him. For example you can use the tentacles to rally yourself if you’re down like 50% of the time. Some skills can break you out of snare, I play a thief, so I use shadowstep to break out of snare. In part 2 and 3, he spam quite a lot of circles, you don’t have to dodge out of the circle to evade it, you just need right timing and you will be able to dodge within the circles itself., as dodging gives you like 1 sec of invisibility.

Those are just some examples, you just need practice, that is all. You can’t expect to run a dungeon the first time and expect it to be easy. This isn’t like CoF, which, in my opinion, broke people’s expectation on GW2’s dungeon difficulties. I’ve ran CoE numerous times and I kite Alpha with only like 2 deaths, and that’s only because I also provide support for my teammates whom are dying like crazy. Last night run alone, me and another experienced thief was kiting him like 90% of the time while the other 3 ran back and forth from the way-point, both of us have full glass canon build. Although there are a few things I found broken with this dungeon, which hopefully the devs will pick up on:
1. The unpredictability of part 1 Alpha’s ground spikes. It happen way too quickly and there is no way to dodge the spikes. Which I think is unreasonable and is a bug. With a fatal skill like that, we should at least be able to dodge it one way or another.
2. The lack of waypoints in the dungeons. The last Alpha encounter is pretty tough, and people will die quite frequently, it’s a pain running back from a waypoint that’s in the middle of dungeon. Sometimes, if there’s a wipe out, Alpha will reset himself because it takes too long to run back to keep him aggro.
3. The size of the room of the last encounter is simply too small. I mean come on, with a boss that spam aoe like crazy, at least give us some room to run. It’s like you’re jamming 5 of us and an insane guy in a cramp room for the last encounter.

Well, what I’m trying to say is, you can’t just expect a dungeon to be easy. To be good at something, you gotta practice at it. If you keep running CoE for like a week, trust me, you will think CoE is quite a fun dungeon to run, way better than CoF.

COE - Subject Alpha needs a serious overhaul

Like many others have stated, Subject Alpha is hard but not impossible. People keep making threads like these like they’re soloing the dungeon alone and there are no one there to help them.

I did CoF everyday for a few days before the patch and I never fail a single one of them. Regarding the AoE circles and dodging, you don’t have to dodge out of the circle to dodge it, you just need right timing and dodge as the AoE is about to hit. Even if you’re still in the circles, an evaded is shown. And even if you’re down, you can use the tentacles to rally almost 70% of the times. I’m pretty sure that’s why those tentacles are there. So if you’re down, don’t lay there and try to revive yourself, hit something.

About the crystals, where are your teammates? When someone get traps in a crystal, it is needed that everyone start to target the crystal right away, don’t just keep hitting the boss, god…

The only thing I’d agree to an extent is the waypoint. It is pretty far from the boss and due to his nature, sometime if you’re unlucky and everyone died at almost the same time, you would lose the boss as no one there to aggro him.

I die a lot, am I doing it wrong?

I might be old fashion here but I found the best pve we to be short bow. I fought my way up from lvl 1 to lvl 80 in pve with a short bow main hand 93% of the time, even against veterans/champions solo.

My Pve specs and gears are in full power/precision, with the stealth heal, roll for initiative, shadow refuge and the speed boost signet.

Short bow have the greatest dmg aoe wise, with a cookie cutter build, you can kill 3-5 mobs really fast. After ~5 cluster bombs, they should be dead or about to, so even if they knock you down, you can still rally easily. Or you can roll for initiative if youre quick enough and spam 2-3 more cluster bombs. The 3 utility skills are for mobility. The thing is you gotta know your strength. Can you survive against them? If not, stealth and rethink your strategy. The 2 stealth skills you have can give you a lots of stealth time. Roll for initiative can be great against the unwanted showdowns or spiders.

Short bow is also great for 1v1 against veterans or champions due to it great mobility. The crippling shot is like an extra dodge and also cripple them. I always kite the target until its <50 health and then change to d/d and charge in. Sure its slower but its safer with a full dmg gears.

You’re still low lvl to fully experience the thief, it’ll get easier if you spec right. Remember to focus on 1 or 2 things you do best only, dont build your thief to be a jack of all trades and a master of none.

Thief class mechanic: Spamming

in Thief

It’s true our mechanic revolve around spamming a specific skill in certain situations but it will never be “official.” Because of how other classes are, spamming only 1 skill is considered noob and thus forcing thieves to try to combine a variety of skills to be like “pro,” thus killing the initiatives mechanic.

What I don’t get is how come good skills like heartseeker get nerf so easily and fast but when bad skills like basilisk vemon need to get fix, there is no work done on it?

Shortbow and Superior Sigil of Strength

I’m just wondering how often is the proc of the Superior Sigil of Strength when spamming shortbow against a bunch of mobs? I currently have 55% crit rate btw.

I’m deciding between Superior Sigil of Fire or Superior Sigil of Strength, but with the Sigil of Strength, there isn’t the 5s delay on the proc so it seem like a better choice.

I don’t want the math, I just want an one hand experience by someone who have used Superior Sigil of Strength on their shortbow.
