So the difficulty is dependent on the class you choose. I kind of expected that. I tried playing a thief because I usually play ranger-type classes and wanted to try something different. Sounds like that was the wrong choice.
HI Noizy.5897
The problem is that most of the personal quest line I have experienced so far has either not been fully tested (bug ridden) or has not been balanced for solo play like it should (it is a Personal questline).
I am an IT Director and if my developers released a product as buggy as this they would be looking for another job.
Hi Jeffrey finally able to complete Battle of Fort Trinity as this time it didnt bug out on me.
Just tried 3 attempts at Sad Duty with the same result, I enter area and about 20 mobs spawn they gank the 7 or 8 npcs in the area then splat me whether I heal or dps, I then rez and return to the fight only to find all the NPCs are dead and Im left facing 10-15 chained mobs.
Doesnt matter if I heal dps or anything, the numbers of enemy mobs means I cant keep the NPC alive long enough and when I return I am faced with having to kill them all.
I have no problems with reasonable odds but thats stupid, I can only assume its yet another bug and pact forces are meant to spawn to at least make it survivable on my own.
Gimme a break…
““Breaking the Bone Ship” will be adjusted in Monday’s (9/24) update. Zott had no underwater skills, and I toned down the risen sharks.”
Really? I think it was one of the easiest missions ever. Apart from the Kraits in the latter part of the story, all I had to do was to kill ONE enemy, which was loleasy with Staff ele build.
The first hit from the Giant Risen Shark took 90% of my health, I used my self heal and his next bite killed me. Are you trying to tell me thats correct.

Ok Jeffrey.
I am currently attempting the battle of fort trinity after being forced to get help to do the Bone Ship quest… the bone shark took 2/3rds of the health from a well geared warrior on its first hit.
I am at the part where I have to clear the docks in fort trinity, there are huge grps 10-20 of enemy mobs and no way to kill them all, I only have Trahearne for backup am i missing something or is it supposed to be this way (the enemy mobs just stand there and dont attack or do anything almost as if they are bugged or something).
I guess I will have to redo the quest from start again…
Almost every quest I come to seems to either bug out, freeze like Tower Down did the other night or be uncompletable on my own due to mob numbers or ridiculous damage.
What is the point of Personal Storylines when they cant be completed alone.
Did anyone actually test these quests solo at all.

I have hit another wall in the Personal Storyline, I am a lvl 80 Elementalist trying to Sink the Bone ship (lvl68 quest). The Giant Risen Shark I have to kill for the quest is pretty much one shotting me and my gear is solid level 80.
Talk about unbalanced, the NPC is useless as well in the quest. The first hit the shark makes takes away 90-95% of my health.
Ridiculous…
I’m playing a warrior. And I’m all about keeping up with the story. I’m the only one of my friends that’s actually playing the personal story as I level. Each time I hit the “recommended” level I do the mission. I have had friends come with me at times, but mostly complete them myself. I just read your above post about the medium and light armor classes. I haven’t tried these yet, but I guess I will have to before rendering a full opinion.
From what I have heard it is fine for Warriors and Guardians, but light armor classes get overwhelmed very quickly.
For the 9/27 update, I reduced the number of banits in each wave, so you aren’t expected to fight 3 at once.
I’m also looking into Logan’s behavior, he’s attacking…very…slowly…if at all, and I can’t see why.
I am sorry Jeffrey but this kind of balancing work should have been done before the game was released, the damage to peoples immersion is huge and enjoyment of the game has been ruined.
Was any actual balancing tests done at all, I can only speak for myself as an elementalist but it leaves a really bad taste.
The difficulty level on many of the Personal Quests is all over the place, from easy to well nigh impossible without guildies to help.
It is so bad for some they have given up altogether on the Personal Quests as they cant afford the repair costs.
Hi Oscill.4325
I am having the same problems on my elementalist, the number of mobs you are supposed to deal with at once makes me think the Personal Quests are either meant to be done in a group or the devs did not even bother to test and balance them for light armor classes.
Dodging and cc abilities only go so far, as I cant cc and dps and heal at the same time so I end up with even more mobs spawning on top of me or on top of my NPC helpers so I cant revive them.
Leaves me no choice but to quit the quest, even if I respawn at checkpoint I am then facing 10 plus mobs with no help. Constantly running in circles just to stay alive (never mind standing to do dps or heal) is no fun.
The NPC’s attacks are very weak and the AI they have is a joke, more often than not they make the situation worse.
I have no problems with the other PVE content and the dungeon difficulty is fine too, how they got both of them right yet kittened up the Personal Quests amazes me.
I found the battle of Claw island to be ok so long as I was very careful with pulls and positioning but since then it is just wave after wave of mobs.
Whatever I do I inevitably get surrounded by mobs and get ganked, half the time the NPC’s either attack just one mob and ignore the rest or just stand there doing nothing.
The difficulty and balancing is all over the place, which is why I can only conclude that no balance testing was done. Warriors and Guardians dont seem to have as much trouble.
If the devs want the Personal Quests to be that way thats fine but they should stop calling them personal and change them to group quests.
Getting repeatedly ganked as soon as I respawn is no fun in any game.
Mark8250,
I couldn’t disagree with you more. I have had a great experience with the personal story in GW2. I feel like the game is perfectly balanced. I always seem to complete the mission by the “skin of my teeth”. It feels like an epic battle each time, and I hope that was the developers intent, because it’s working perfectly.
I dont mind it being tricky or even tough in places but not if it stops progression.
What class are you Mbridge.4069?
Personal quests in Swtor were no problem as long as you used your companions correctly, I have completed personal quests in Swtor on most classes without difficulty as the devs got the balance right.
No matter which attunement I use as elementalist I just hit a wall with constant mob spawns. I note many of the more squishier classes are having problems in GW2, warriors and guardians seem to be fine.
It is pretty clear from the similar problems people are having that the devs did not properly test and balance the personal quests for the light armor classes.
I am having to deal with 5 mobs as the NPC’s are uselss then 4 more spawn on top of me.
Its just ruining the immersion of the game, by the time I have died and respawned at checkpoint the friendly NPC’s are dead as they were overwhelmed and I am stuck trying to fight 10+ mobs.
Its completely ridiculous for what is supposed to be a Personal Quest.
Surely the Personal Quests should have been balance tested properly before release, it is pretty clear to me that no proper testing was done at all.
The quests up to and including Claw Island were tough but doable with careful pulls and if the NPC’s did not go and do something stupid like aggro everything.
Past that point I have hit a wall, I am a level 75 elementalist who joined the priory and I am currently trying to do the level 60+ personal quests and the numbers of adds that spawn on top of me when I am suppsed to be protecting the researchers just makes it impossible.
Tbh it really is a disgrace and by far the worst personal storyline experience I have ever had in any game.

What is the point of a personal story questline that I am unable to complete myself.
Just attempted Forging the Pact multiple times with no luck, I inevitably get swamped with adds. At one point I was protecting the researchers and I had at least 8 adds on me, I am an elementalist and cant take those numbers alone even if I kite them. All of the NPC’s are dead and tbh even when alive are completely useless.
I have tried to complete the quest just healing, dps and a mix of both.
For the love of god do something about this it is ridiculous.
I think I will just leave the personal quests as they are clearly not designed to be completed alone.
Tbh it is really ruining the game experience for me as there is no fun or immersion in constant wipes due to being repeatedly ganked by enemies.
The personal quests in swtor and other MMO’s are far superior and better balanced than this crap, it feels like the personal quests where just bolted on at the last minute with no thought at all.
Disappointing.

I have same problem everything was fine last night 09/09/2012, had a problem logging in this morning 10/09/2012 so I changed my password just in case.
Once I had successfully logged in I realised that I was missing 1 gold and cant account for its disappearance, I know its not as much as some have reported but it pretty much cleared me out.
Clearly I am not the only one it seems.
