I can’t wait for the Dominion of Winds and the Tengu. Hopefully they get a little art update because right now their mouths barely move when they speak in cutscenes.
Hi guys, I have an 80 Mesmer and a handful of low alts on CD; I’ve been a hardcore raider on World of Warcraft for 8 years as well as a relatively casual League of Legends player. I’m looking for a PvE guild that is large and relatively well-built in terms of upgrades, that is primarily active during the hours of 0600 GMT – 1400 GMT (i.e. 10 PM PST – 6 AM PST). I’m somewhat of a night-owl since I live in California but keep late hours. I like doing dungeons (the ordinary explorables as well as fractals), and I like WvW so long as we aren’t fighting a server that’s just crushing us. I play a thief in SPvP however, but while I try to focus on the PvE aspect of GW2, I do enjoy a lot of pvp on the side where I can get it.
I like the fractals but I hate that there is now an element of vertical progression that spills over into WvW and regular exploratory PvE. I understand that the jump in stats is about 8% going from exotic to ascended, so why not move all of those stat gains into agony resistance? This way, players can equip themselves to better explore the fractals while not creating a new arms race in the process where players are forced to get either an ascended weapon or a legendary, where players are forced to spend immense amounts of gold infusing a new backpiece or ring or whatever else is to come.
For example, the ascended items would have basically the same stats as exotic items, but with agony resistance as a 4th stat (or 3rd stat where it is the primary), and they would have two slots—one for a gem and one for an agony resistance infusion. Get rid of defensive/offensive infusions, and get rid of them having stats besides agony resistance. I’d also recommend that agony resistance be changed to a larger scale of numbers; i.e. think precision or toughness rather than magic find or critical damage.
Instead of ascended weapons, new sigil:
Superior Sigil of Ascension – grants +10 agony resist every time you kill a foe, stacking 15 times. Lasts until weapon swap.
I realize that normally you’d also have it cancel on death or zoning, but that happens far too frequently in fractals, and this sigil is meant to encourage only using one weapon set, when there are some encounters that require you to pick up an ability kit like a torch or a reflecting crystal. In this way we can be as accommodative as possible to players choosing an agony-resistance based defensive play-style in which they intentionally limit themselves to one weapon set.
I don’t know if the suggestion forum is the correct place to post this but I hope it can be of constructive use. I was very thrilled at the concept of an MMO with no treadmill (it gets boring after 7 years of World of Warcraft), so while the fractals and ascended gear by no means make me want to quit and leave a hate-filled tirade on my way out, it does make me just want to figure out how to get back to having things the way they were, while allowing the more hardcore players the ability to better their gear in a way that benefits them for what they want to do, while not affecting anyone else.
Like I said, this way, there is no motivation to farm fractals for WvW, and there is no added motivation to farm a legendary weapon as they would no longer need to have a stat bump implemented. From what I understand, ascended weapons aren’t yet in—and I imagine many would prefer the idea of ascended weapons be scrapped entirely. I think ascended armor and trinkets make sense for what they’re designed to be rewards for, but what has everyone upset is that they’re better than exotics for other things, where they don’t belong.
I really think that the sPvP design was brilliant, the way players are given armor and weapons with no stats at all on them, and its completely cordoned off from the rest of the game. In this way I believe is the sole failing of the fractals: the agony resistance is not the only additional stat awarded on the items, and that is what is driving this controversy. Believe me, agony resistance is enticing enough on its own for those who go deep into the fractals, without having to bring MUDflation into the mix on top of it all.
Worst case scenario would be that ascended gear becomes so mandatory that the weapons start doing +agony damage, which is reduced by all that armor with the resistance on it. I hope this idea is something fresh and agreeable because I love the game and I want more people to play it, while still staying true to the original core values that the game was launched with, where the emphasis is on skins and not stats.
Yeah, sort of like Heart of the Mists where there’s a PvP Browser with all the game servers in it. You could zone into the Fractals area and talk to an NPC who lets you either queue up with 5 people or go into a group that just needs 1 more person or whatever.
What if rather than be removed outright, it were moved to the Monthly PvP meta-achievement? That seems almost like a more appropriate place for it to reside anyway, in my opinion.
Additionally remember that the monthly meta-achievements change. Next month, maybe the WvW kills will be in the PvP meta, or maybe neither will have it even.
