Greetings and Salutations my dear engineers! Are you ready to partake in some unsavory gambling?

We have some excellent and viable choices for you to pick tonight, my lucky friends.

Up to you to pick wisely or to drink an Elixir and leave it up to the RNG.

The nature of the game tonight is…..

drumroll

WHAT BUILD WILL ARENANET NERF?!

And your options are!

1. The Sturdy Medicat Build!

2. The Bursty Static Discharge Build!

3. The In Your Face 100Nade Build!

Place your bets ladies and gentlemen!

I suspect the 100Nade will get nerfed. Using an AoE for Single Target damage, is exactly the situation they’ve been talking about nerfing.

Protection Injection (Alchemy VI)

“Gain protection for 3 seconds whenever you are disabled. (stun, daze, knockdown, knockback, launch, float, sink, fear). This effect can trigger once every 5 seconds.
— In-game description”

This doesn’t trigger off skills that have self knockback/down or self launch.

  1. Overcharged Shot (Rifle skill)
  2. Rocket Boots (Gadget)

(The “knockback” on Overcharge may be considered a “Leap” like Acid Bomb, and Jump Shot, even though in the descriptor it states, “you fall backward…” and it’s even listed as a “Self KnockBack Distance: 300”)

I tried it in the Mists, both out of combat, and in combat. Did not try it in PvE.

No prob. Some classes have a ton of AOE, while others don’t have as much. So we’re not just going to do a blanket nerf to all AOE – that’s not fair to all classes. We’ll go on a class by class, weapon by weapon basis.

And as I’ve said, we may need to tone something down in one area of the game, but it may be totally fine in another area.

For some weapon sets, the AOE options may be too strong compared to the single target options, which is what we aim to address.

Could you please state the preliminary findings?
Which AoE’s are pinging your radar?
Which Classes/Abilities are on the “Watch List?”
Is there anything, that we as a community, can do to help?

Less skill to play?

Say that to my grenade kit, which I have to presume my ennemy moving patern to make it hit.

Say that to my bomb, wich take 1 sec to explod after I set them at my feet.

Say that to my flamethrower, which will miss 50% if someone decide to move. Say that to number 2 from FT, that require me to time and measure my shot so that it will only hit at 600 range, not too close and not too far, for average damage.

^This.

Only reason I use Grenade Kit in WvWvW is for the Traited Range, so I feel like I’m helping, by scaring the defenders off the wall. If I had a Long Range Single Target weapon, I’d use that in a heartbeat. Rifle, Traited, is only 1200, but then, it’s more of a shotgun.
I hate the Grenade Kit for WvWvW, and General PvE. For the few dungeons I’ve run, I used Grenades as it was healthier for me and the team that I stand back and try to help, while I learn the encounter.

As I prefer the Engineer Profession, this annoucement has me really concerned.
Practically all abilites for the Engineer have some form of AoE. GTAoE, PBAoE, Bounce, Cone, Piercing.
If AoE as a whole is nerfed, my favorite Profession (which already feels a tad underpowered) may become too… eh.
The Engineer is already paying for its “Versitility.” Yet, even if I wanted to use a Single Target attack, I’m limited to Tool Kit (Melee Kit, which has a PBAoE), Elixer Gun Kit(Support Kit, which has a Cone), or Rifle(Which also has Piercing, a Cone, and GT/PBAoE).

Gah! Even the Traits are geared towards making the Engineer AoE’s bigger, more powerful, and supporting.

I don’t know. Will nerfing AoE have a good result on PvE? Doubtful, as it will require some major reworking of zones/encounters. Will nerfing AoE have a good result on WvWvW? Doubtful, as it will still be a zerg-fest. Safety in numbers is tried and true. Will nerfing AoE have a good result on Dungeons? Don’t know, as I don’t run them much. Will nerfing AoE have a good result on PvP? Don’t know, as I don’t PvP.

What I do know, is that they stated they want all the Professions to have “Multiple, Viable Builds.”
When they implement these builds, I’d appreciate it, if they’d list them in detail.
At least then, I’d be able to understand how they want us to play.

I thought I understood the “Big Picture,” but the past few changes, and this annoucement, have got me questioning, if I really understood it at all.

Does the upcoming AOE Nerf include PBAoEs?

As a fellow Bomb Kit Engineer, I was wondering about this too.

Please don't nerf the AOE for all classes

If they reduce the damage, I hope they compensate by removing the 5 target limit.

Does this note from the Patch Notes affect Super Elixir?

•Many skills, items, and traits were applying healing to an infinite amount of targets and have now been limited to 5 targets.
