Living World?

Mashugana.2843

I just returned – when and how do I engage the Living World story? I am not sure if it is a series of story driven quests that start after my personal story or if they are events that occurred in the past and I can only read about Season 1.

Thanks.

Returning player - gear for leveling?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mashugana.2843

Mashugana.2843

I’m returning after a very long break. I’m going to level a new character to get the feel of the game again. I seem to remember that I could buy some starter armor/enhancements that made leveling a little easier – or am i thinking of another game?

I think I used a speed proc thingie just to help me get around faster and then + power thinngies to make it a little easier as I level. I think I buy level 0 gear, put in the speed and power thingies, and go have fun. That right?

Any other quality of life things they may have added? I remember exploring and getting extra XP from creatures no one had killed in a while – I think there were xp boosts – not sure what is still around.

Thanks for any advice getting started on my 1-80 journey. Ranger I think…maybe Guardian…

Ideas for good color combo for coats?

in Ranger

Posted by: Mashugana.2843

Mashugana.2843

It looks like my level 39 ranger is going to be wearing trench coats for a LONG time. Does anyone have any ideas on good color combinations to improve the look a but? I have been in a brown coat for 39 levels….

I have quite a few dyes and I am happy to buy more – maybe there are a few key purples, reds, golds, etc that look good?

I know this is subjective but I trust you all have more artistic skill than I.

Thanks.

Please help me learn melee

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mashugana.2843

Mashugana.2843

I am new – never had a character above level 40 yet – but I want to learn how to play melee properly as I level. I know that from 40-80 I’ll really need to understand defense in order to survive.

This is what I think is true and what I am practicing – any advice?

- Simply moving side to side fails: Circling around my enemy to avoid attacks does NOT seem to work. Many attacks are AOE or cones and moving side to side just gets me killed. It works now with Drake breath etc but it seems like a bad habit long term
- Dodge: I need to use my dodge sparingly since I only get 2 before the refill. I try to ‘time’ it but I struggle to know when to use it.
- Weapon Defense: Certain weapons have evades, blocks, etc. I think I need to use these frequently to mitigate damage.

So right now I pretty much stand in one spot facing the mob and mix in my dodge and weapon defense moves.

It is not working.

I either kill the thing in seconds or the thing hits me with a whopper for 70% of my health when all my defenses are on cooldown.

I’d love any general advice on how to fight as I level so I build the muscle memory for level 80/

Thanks.

PS: I am playing a level 39 ranger now if that helps. But I want to learn the basic concepts of melee for all classes over time.

Leveling with melee weapons?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mashugana.2843

Mashugana.2843

I am new, but I have taken every profession to level 29 to try them out. It seems that ranged weapons are better at leveling for ALL classes. With ranged weapons it feels like I spend running up to targets, it is easy to stand in one space and reach out to kill quest mobs, and easier to avoid damage.

Am I doing it wrong? I want to level a warrior so I tried to do it melee and utterly failed compared to leveling with longbow or rifle. I found myself running more, losing targets as they spun around me, taking more damage, etc. And other than Sword-2 I did not see any way to close the gap to a target.

Do most people use ranged to level? Or am I missing some fundamental skills of playing melee that would make it more fun.

Thanks for any advice.

Killstreak - spots where mobs have xtra xp?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mashugana.2843

Mashugana.2843

Where are some good spots with groups of mobs that people do not usually kill? Then I can farm them with Killstreak boosters and get the extra XP since the mob has sat a while.

There seem to be some spots in the Char starting area (the hyenas in the center of the map), Queensdale (the drakes in the river always seem to have been sitting a while and give extra xp).

Does anyone know any other good spots as I level? I bet the Sylvari and Asura starter zones are less popular and may have some good corners to farm – not sure/

I am new so I’d love places below level 30 since I am, well, um, below level 30.

I love doing exploration, hearts, and events. But I found taking an hour with a Killstreak to be a lot of fun and a change of pace – just need some spots

Thanks!

Funniest Asura combat animations?

in Asura

Posted by: Mashugana.2843

Mashugana.2843

I am new and I have now seen how awesome Asura look in combat – which profession has the funniest or best animations? I’d love to try Asura and they make me laugh.

For example, I saw a warrior use his two handed sword – the fact that they carry it over their shoulder and then flip in the air when they attack cracked me up. I saw an Asura Guardian hover in the air using sword/shield while sending waves of light at their opponent.

Lost of animations are just like the other races (pistol, rifle). Are there any Elementalist, Mesmer, etc. animations that just make you smile?

Thanks for the advice to help me pick the Asura profession with the best combat humor. I am a data analyst – I need all the humor I can get

O am having trouble getting a handle on the elementalist – what is a good weapon for levels 1-30 to learn the class? Any easy combo field/finishes to use to get used to the mechanic? Maybe something in staff to help me practice switching from fire to water, etc?

I’ve tried and nothing seems to work right. I’d love to hear if there is a useful combination of spells that will help me get a feel for the class – maybe drop a fire field and then switch to lightning for….something?

Thanks for any advice.

Is the cost of changing appearance high?

in Players Helping Players

Mashugana.2843

Is it expensive in Guild Wars to change your appearance? I love the wide variety of armors and options in the Makeover Kits. But it seems like it costs $10 or more of real money to change your appearance. You need a transmute charge for every gear slot and then the makeover kit.

Is that right? If so, then I guess I am not supposed to frequently change my appearance but plan one out and stick with it.

Given all the amazing options in the game this makes me sad.

Am I missing something?

I am new to GW2 and have read that crafting 1-400 is a way to get 10 or so levels. Is this still true? Or has it been nerfed so crafting by itself to 400 will only give 5-6 levels?

I thought I’d take cooking to 400 to get some quick levels and learn how crafting works – I’ve read that is the cheapest and easiest. I have about 13 gold so we’ll see

Thanks for any advice.

New player: upgrades for leveling?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mashugana.2843

Mashugana.2843

I just learned how to add upgrades to armor and weapons. I bought a Speed Boost and Bloodlust (power) upgrade for my Ranger longbow and the difference was huge. The speed boost made running from event to event easy and the power boost was significant.

What is the best way to use upgrades leveling?

This is my first ever GW2 character so I only have 9 gold (from selling all collectibles). I think my best bet is:

- Go to the AH/TP every ten levels
- Buy new armor and weapons with Mighty (+power)
- Put Speed Boost and Bloodlust upgrades in my new longbow
- Put upgrades in my armor (don’t know which)

Am I on track or is there a better way? Am I wasting gold? Or are the upgrades amazing at level 10 and less so at 30 and above (so I know when to stop buying them)? Also, is Power/Speed good for all professions or are there better upgrades for certain play-styles/professions?

I don’t fully understand karma vendors, + ferocity items, or other game systems yet so there may be another obvious way to get gear that I do not know – thank you for any advice.

Lots to learn! Loving the game.

Thanks again.

Can you swap between two wardrobe looks?

Mashugana.2843

Can you easily change your cosmetic/wardrobe appearance?

It seems expensive to change your gear appearance. You need to spend a transmute charge every time. This feels like the game is designed for you to get your final gear, give it the look you like, and leave it alone.

Or is there a way to have several different wardrobe appearances you swap between?

The armor in this game is amazing. It’s hard to commit to just one. I’d love it if I could assemble different appearances and switch without needed double gear or transmute charges every time.

tyvm for an advice.
