Good old days:
http://i59.tinypic.com/1hfm0o.png
Now I can’t play. 5 fps in spvp. Do something.
Players.
- When I see our “close holder” go far and die each match…
- When I see our war-hambow 1v1 an elementalist far away…
- When I see our thief focusing the wrong target…
- When I see our elementalist playing like Rambo mid and then die…
- When I see our necro standing mid casting like a turret while the enemy team is literally focusing on him..
- When I see our only guardian with GS…
- When I see our mesmer wandering…
I think that pvp is not for “everyone”.
Now the real question imho should be:
How the community can improve their skills?
Sadly, for me the answer is ELITISM. Not discrimination.
Hello everyone o/
Some months ago I decided to make my personal build for necromancer in tPvP for a specific team composition.
The idea is to focus the target with multiple CC/remove boons while waiting the perfect time to strike the AoE burst… and stay alive during that time.
Pros:
- Remove Boons
- Mobility
- Burst Multiple CC
- Tankish with jetskates
Cons:
- People will yell at you
- Can’t stand still and cast like a turret, or the burst will be “predictable”
- Being a necro means be 1st target most of the time, you will be chased by many.
For this strategy I have chosen and tested different MINIONS, yes minions:
- The most damaging and useful (imho) are the “tiny minions” (Summon Bone Minions) and the “BIG one” (Summon Flesh Golem). If someone recall the GW1’s IWAY , every fight was intense thanks to the presence of a Tainter necro with Death Nova. I try to not concede time to breathe.
- The most life-saver combo you can do against basically EVERYTHING is Summon Flesh Wurm + Consume Conditions
So the plan is:
1) Remove boons thanks to Spinal Shivers + Unholy Feast. If the target is already near 50% another Spinal Shivers will follow the burst thanks to Chill of Death
2) If the target is reachable without going YOLO-RAMBO mode try to: Reaper’s Touch + “Summon Bone Minions” -> Putrid Explosion x2
°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸ ( VIDEO ) °º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸
Putrid Explosion paired with Death Nova trait makes a good combo.
This is to emphatize that synergy, poison field & blast twice in a row.
Pick Staff is obvious choice:
- Chilled/Poison Aoe
- Transfer Condition AoE + Blast Combo
- Fear Aoe
- Bleeding AoE (this is actually very useful to trigger some effects or to cover good conditions), this is usually my first skill on an enemy engineer followed by chilled/poison. Also, every 10 seconds, a dodge will produce this mark.
Anyone using Rampager?
The build in my signature.
Bleeding is not so good if you leave the default duration, however if you use:
- 2x afflicted (+15% bleeding duration)
- 2x centaur (+15% bleeding duration)
- 2x krait and (+15% bleeding duration)
- sigil of agony on main hand and offhand (+20% bleeding duration)
… then cast iDuelist and let me know
EDIT: Of course the thing that you have to accomplish is to reach at least 60% crit chance and you MUST use Phantasmal Fury in order to boost iDuelist to 80% crit chance.
Love the build but I need help w conditions. I do fine against direct damage but other condition heavy classes do well against me. Any suggestions?
Since the meta is still condition based, for utilities (for now) I wouldn’t pick anything besides Feedback + Nullfield + Blink.
But, if you still suppose that you could have some problem against condition builds, you can also try to use Nullfield + Arcane Thievery + Blink.
Sorry but I rarely talk about WvW. Everything I suggest is always based on a 5-man PvP team, that’s why I never consider foods and other buffs.
Having said that, I would like to know: if you major damage is bleeding, why don’t you boost it at least a little bit? :P
I’m also testing another “Illusionary Bomberman” version with multiple conditions to cover bleed stacks, but unfortunately I feel Sc/T a slow combination for burst conditions for my playstyle. I found that Sc/T suits a better spot for heavy support builds.
Maybe you should try a switch like:
- Sword/Torch – so you can burst Burning into Illusionary Leap
- Scepter/Pistol – so you can duelist into Feedback (or another field) then Confusing Images
In WvW, I usually clean camps alone with my Condition Phantasm build called “Illusionary Bomberman”.
If I’m in a zerg or a small group, I usually swap the staff for GS. For swiftness, I hardswap from inventory the focus (that is always my first element in my inventory).
It’s very similar to the build that I’m using:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhhiU0tC4V0
I really like the “on-death” traits paired with sword (chasing clones FTW), but since you’re using scepter, I would swap 10 into domination for 10 into illusion. So you can pick +33% duration for confusion.
Other than this, if you need to bleed more with duelist use RAMPAGER amulet with RABID jewel.
Hello. I have been using the same build with exception of 2nd weapon set which is scepter+pistol. I would like someone to fine tune my sigils too if possible, although I am concerned with spvp for now. Here it is the build:
Thanks!
Imho, you build is quite different. Since you want to stick with another set , one of the viable things to do is to boost you duelist, in order to gain HUGE advantage from it.
- The stealth strategy still remains intact.
Torch cleanse & reduction + Prismatic Understanding
- Your duelist now hits like a truck.
During duelist casting time, use Feedback. Then Stun/Confusing Images.
- For sigils now you can stack Mights on swap, and reach 60% crit chance
Your original build has 14% crit. chance… so bleed on crit is far from happens.
- Since you heavy rely on stealth and not on clone replacement, the clone on dodge would only reveals your position, so it’s discarted.
It’s normal if you see more than 3 illusions at once.
Example:
- 3 illusions up → shatter
Now the illusions start to run towards their targets, if during this time, you cast
- Mirror Images + Decoy
There will be for few seconds 6 clones alive, 3 suicidal (shatter), 3 alive.
No problem mate, I’m glad for that :P
The first thing is to learn the most requested mesmer: CoF speedruns :P
I found a youtube video with useful tips. Sadly, some pugs will preted that you’re full Berserker and nothing else.
If you often run dungeons, i suggest 6x Lyssa runes + TimeWarp + Signet of Inspiration
I’ve made some changes to your build that should solve your problem, without even touch the survivability of your build.
What’s changed:
- Now you have more than 50% crit chance.
To accomplish this, I switched Phantasmal Fury with Blade Training in Dueling, and switched the rune on the offhand with the Sigil of Accuracy.
- Now you have proper rune’s CD internal cooldown shared with Sigil of Battle on both weapons.
If you put a crit chance sigil on one weapon set, and a swap sigil on the other, sometimes something bad happens: When you land a critical and the sigil activates, if you swap weapon during this internal CD, you’ll waste the “on swap activation”.
I’m not a fan of heavy shatter build, but I tried a fantastic shatter build some months ago.
I don’t really think that with recent nerfs something is changed.
Speaking about runes, I use Superior Rune of the Air
Hmmm I didn’t realize that. Do the clones on dodge follow your targets as well using the sword? And do they NOT when using the scepter? I know the ones summoned with the #1 chain skill are stationary, but if I have the scepter equipped with DE will the dodge clones not move either? Thanks
Yes. The clone production when you use a MH sword, will generate the “chasing clones”.
Every other clone won’t go in melee combat, so in that case you NEED to deploy them near your targets and make them explode ASAP. Imho this is a suboptimal use.
More info on scepter clone generations:
- If you have the scepter and you dodge, your clone will be create in the place where you’ve started to dodge.
- With scepter autoattack, your clone will appear in the place where the 3rd autoattack is landed.
Note that since the scepter clones are ranged, they won’t chase your target, sometimes they even move from their original spawning point.
Duelling is anything but a useless line for condi builds.
Bleed stacking through sharper images is by far the single most important trait for a condi build, the extra precision from dueling is a boon to that goal, while DE will ensure you can keep up lots of clones at all times. With bleed stacking, clones become a major source of DPS, and the phantasmal fury trait can benefit certain phantasms immensely (ie. duellist)
I couldn’t say it better. I also would like to add (for this strategy) to use the RAMPAGER amulet with RABID jewel, and fill 30 into dueling. In this way you have:
- 60% critical chance
- your phantasms have 80% critical chance (Phantasmal Fury → Duelist = OP)
- your ILLUSIONS inflict bleeding almost every hit.
(edited by Mei Mato.5478)
I think you have to decide which “role” do you want to fit the most.
For support/boons mesmers, I suggest you to look at WvW builds since they’re very tanky but with lower output damage, as they’re often used in small groups instead of solo play.
For support/conditions, you could try my build in the signature and abuse from Nullfield/Feedback as utilities in order to combo them with iduelists. The only thing you should change is:
Remove into illusion the “double bounce trait” and put these 10 points into the ispiration trait line, so you can use the glamour CD reduction.
Let me know if that helped :P
This is what “forced” me, in a certain way, to equip a sword as MH weapon instead of the scepter.
The main issue for me using “exploding clones + clone on dodge” with scepter is: your clones are stationary.
As you could see using a MH sword, your clones will chase to death your targets.
I play mesmer since beta, mostly in spvp, and this is one of the core mechanics for my favourite build :P
In sPvP, I prefer to burst the necro as if there was no tomorrow, try to dodge their stakitten AoE skills then Arcane Thievery if you’ve got too many dangerous conditions like chill, 8+ bleeding and torment.
If the necro is condition damage, he is usually my 2nd target after thiefs.
If the necro has the golem elite summoned, KILL the golem asap.
Mate if you don’t like the Shatter mechanic, you can try my build in the signature.
This build uses conditions (mainly bleeding) and direct damage burst with iDuelist+Combo Fields… so keep it alive!
For shatters, use them when you NEED:
- Distortion when you could get a devastating attack.
- Diversion when your target is preparing to heal.
Mate, check my signature for a hybrid build based on high crit chance (rampager) and plenty of bleeding stacks. Enjoy :P
Target mark – Spike in 3… 2… 1…
Attempting to reproduce the old-good GW1 spikes, I’ve created the scepter version that is complementary to this build, like a “Synchronized Duo”. Of course a form voice communication is vital.
The key factor is to have the maximum advantage with the minimum effort.
This basic spike usually STARTS at “1” while you’re both invisible with Mass Invisibility:
- Player 1 (MH-Sword): iDuelist – Magic Bullet
- Player 2 (MH-Scepter): iDuelist – FeedBack – Confusing Images
! IMPORTANT ! Feedback must be casted during the iDuelist summoning cast.
If you’re synchronized well, this combo applies 14-16 bleed stacks and 19-21 confusion stacks… on a single target… every 4.4 seconds. Other than this, you have Mass Invisibility every 45 seconds.
Let me know if you appreciate it :P
iDuelist is my condition burst, whilst my army made of explosive melee clones chases to death my targets.
It’s an hybrid build that I’ve slowly tweaked for about 2 months and now, I feel that it’s close to its “final state” . It’s based around iduelist, high QUALITY & LONG LASTING bleeding stacks and other “minor” conditions in order to cover my bleeding stacks from a purge.
(edited by Mei Mato.5478)
I should clarify, when I said these traits I meant the condis on clone death traits. They’re worth picking up even with a power build imo.
Yeah that’s another build I would really like to try: A sort of power build with long lasting conditions and interrupts. But, in that case I’d go with something like 30 – 0 – X – X – X with lyssa/nightmare runes in order to gain +50% cond.duration for confusion/burning/blind/torment. Still testing this build, so I won’t reveal more xD
I consider these traits core to any build I’m going to seriously play. Whether it’s power, condi or tank. I hate wasting a clone.
Please, let me clarify one thing:
“Sharper Images + Phantasmal Duelist” mechanic WORKS with Rampager Amulet. Using another set won’t even remotely produce the same result, especially a P/T/V set. ^^
How does this build do in PvE, dungeons/fractals/solo PvE?
Well, in these cases I always make some changes.
But, if I know that in a particular encounter there will be long lasting conditions, (like the spider in AC) or it’s impossibile to stay melee at boss, I use to change the Sword with Scepter in order to use Sigil of Generosity on it.
For normal situations, or solo PvE you are perfectly fine with the sword/staff with Battle sigil on both. (First build).
NOTE: If you’re running fractal daily, at Maw there will be some “problems” like reflect on projectiles. So you have to change weapons:
- sword with scepter,
- pistol with focus (I know that’s wasting one trait, but I can’t find any solution xD )
- staff with GS.
Sigils are the same
(edited by Mei Mato.5478)
I would love to see a pvp vid of how it all comes together
I hope that this will satify your curiosity xD
(edited by Mei Mato.5478)
I’m glad that you appreciate my suggestion
By the way, after the scepter fix, I want to try some more combinations, so I’ll check this discussion frequently.
Hey mate! I’m “Pippi Cannelunghe” (Desolation – EU) in game and I tried to build this since January, but after some months testing I came up with something “different”.
Main differences:
- Crit Chance at 60% minimum: try to use Rampager amulet with Rabid jewel and 30 points into Dueling trait.
Then with 60% crit chance and “phantasmal fury” use iDuelist. PEWPEWPEW
Try it before judge, don’t be that guy xD
- If you use the sword instead of scepter, your clones will chase to death your target… applying bleeding AND vulnerability with normal attacks , then they will explode (near your target since they’re chasing him).
- Sigil of Battle on both weapons. It gives you 210 power and 210 cond.damage everytime you swap weapon sets.
- Corruption on offhand gives you a sort of “Snowball effect” at 25 stacks, something similar to Dota
- If you want to boost your bleeding even more use 2x Afflicted/Centaur/Krait for +45% bleeding duration
I tried to build it in two versions, one with multiple and different conditions and another that relies more on bleeding on crit with iduelist (this last one is giving me very good times).
If you want to compare the builds, you can see my “Illusionary Bomberman” on the forum
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-Illusionary-Bomberman-PvX-build/first#post2278805
Hello Fay, can you please add my build? It’s entirely based on:
- crit on bleeding
- mass conditions
- interrupts
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-Illusionary-Bomberman-PvX-build
P.s. It was designed for sPvP, but it also works great in PvE and small scale WvW.
+45% is a bit pointless because unless you get a full extra second you won’t get an extra tick […]
I usually try a thing before comment it. But if you don’t want to try it and instead focus only on theorycrafting look at both build and their damage. Look how much “pointless” is my staff#1 spam and look the bleeding (Plus I pick the extra bounce trait).
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAraWlwzqqHVzgGb9IyJFMn0hSx15dlegb52FC-T0AAzCpIKS9l7LTRyvsfNqYVxpiJCvKA (this is your build)
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAsaWl0zKoXTTmGb9IipCBHqHYX25dlegb52FC-TsAg1CpIgR5jzHDMyZszMEZJycBA (this is my build)
Besides, the idea of this build is to boost Confusion and Torment duration.
Then mate put a Battle sigil on both weapons instead of Earth, and Corruption instead of Paralization.
Don’t pick the pistol and even the trait that boost it, because with 50% crit. chance your iDuelist will put an average of 3-4 bleeding instead of 7-8 with rampager with rabid jewel (the reason for pick rampager instead of rabid… not for the staff users).
If you want a more Bleeding-focused build, go with the Staff as your main weapon (a.k.a. the typical Condition Mesmer build).
I tried and I didn’t like it at all, it’s VERY slow. I prefer 1 button = LOT of bleeding stacks.
Rampager has less CondDmg than Rabid, and has Power instead of Toughness which is much less useful to a Condition Mesmer.
True, but Rampager paired with Phantasmal Fury makes iDuelists hit like a truck… with bleeding. A LOT of bleeding stacks. Other than this, power scales poor with conditions, you’re perfectly right, but it counts! At a certain degree cond.damage has a sort of cap, I think this value gets less benefits over 1250 cond.damage.
For Toughness the thing is different, I don’t play WvW often but I spend the most of the time in sPvP, so I prefer to burst down at maximum speed instead of being more tanky. Since Toughness boost to conditions is ridiculous.
Think about my build like a conditionmancer glasscannon where you only rely on stay out of LoS and with high-mobility and stopping power so you can handle the fight.
If you’re interested i’m testing something very similar.
- iDuelist can reach 7-8 bleeding if you use RAMPAGER instead of the classic rabid.
- You can boost this damage using Afflicted/Centaur/Krait for +45% bleeding duration
Don’t tell anyone but condition duration works on clones and phantasms xD
My build is still working ^^
Since you’re going slightly towards a bunker\condi spammer and since i’ve discovered and been running that build i can tell you that, OP, you’re correct on some points but wrong on others.
Try to go up atleast 15 into Illusions, having perma-regen and and 3s of Protection every 15s is invaluable.
Sorry for this late reply, but I was very busy in the last month.
First of all, I would like to say that my build is NOT a bunker build, and that my survival chances are only due to very high mobility and to constantly stay out of enemy line of sight. For this reason I also made some more tweaks to my personal build in order to burst even more, in fact the Inspirations points are completely gone. All of them.
A funny variation could be done with Afflicted/Centaur/Krait for +45% bleeding duration. As traits:
0
30 – II – IX – X
10 – V
0
30 – III – VII – X
By the way I would really like to see your personal invention, so maybe post a reference link so I could take more “inspiration” :P
Some updates after testing:
What’s changed:
Why?
- I don’t like to die from a long lasting condition (like Poison & Burning) while I’m desperately trying to get “Out of Combat”
- The Sigil of Battle on both weapons gives about 6 stacks of might (210 Power & 210 Cond. Dmg)
- I really like the idea to burst down a target then interrupt the heal. Also this Interrupt boost my Cond. Dmg. The more the merrier.
Take a look at losing 5 points from chaos into inspiration. […] Get the major trait in inspiration, which has a lot of interesting options, between extra vigor, condition removal, or traiting glamours for cooldowns.
Thank you for your precious suggestions!
The 5 more points into chaos is there only to protect me from initial bursts from thiefs or GS mesmers, but I’m really considering your advice.
- While +5s extra vigor AoE sounds interesting to me, it “forces” in a certain way to shatter my illusions, but I don’t want to do this often.
- Purge on Heals seems very good. I’m only worried about Poison that triggers anyway.
- Glamour +20% CD reduction is awesome for the iDuelist – Feedback combo, since Feedback doesn’t need to target ground and this allows me to perform this combo more than before.
So I’m really thinking to pick it instead of the Signet of Domination
For the Sigils I’ve seen that Chill offers a good burst but compaired to Battle it lacks of sustained damage. I don’t have decided yet.
For the Rune , I really want to use Orrian for the Poison on hit but I don’t quite like the 6th ability, so I would like to put a combination of 4xOrrian + ?? or 5x Orrian + Infiltration (so i should reach 11% more damage IF I have 3 illusions and my target is under 50%).
So now, my build should be something like this:
PvE / WvW version
PvP version
if you trait into pistol you can use the combo fields as well to land 8 stacks of confusion. Might be something to look at. The trait makes his bullets 100% combo finisher.
Yeah mate, as you can see reading near the end of my previous post, my alternative utility set is Feedback instead of Arcane Thievery if i’m not particularly worried about conditions on me.
Also, if you like to perform combinations and you’re fast enough you can:
- iWarlock + Chaos Armor (while casting iWarlock) + Chaos Storm + swap weapon + iDuelist + Magic Bullet + Illusionary Leap X2 + Blurred Frenzy + dodge twice + Cry of Frustration
Btw, if you want to try it in WvW or PvE this is the build: http://tinyurl.com/d8zmwld
As usual, the core of the build is:
- 9% more damage when you have 3 illusions up (it doesn’t work on conditions)
- the 60% critical chance , phantasms have fury and bleeding on critical hits
- create a clone on dodge paired with normal clone/phantasm creation triggers the “on death effects”, so be sure that at least 2 clones are created from sword or near your target
Some tips:
- Against melee targets REPLACING CLONES is the way to go, DON’T SHATTER OFTEN, do it only WHEN you need to interrupt or burst down you target
- Against ranged targets try to stack iDuelists (at least 2) , be sure to place them far from each other, then interrupt/manipulate them to death.
- Try to interrupt Finishers on Downed teammates, you’ve got 3-4 way to perform this.

Hello everyone o/
I’ve been looking for months for a build that could work while being extremely fun to play. Of course the concept of “fun” is subjective, but I strongly suggest you to try it before to judge. Also, my build is not set in stone, so and you can change about 20 points from traits while mantaining the initial idea.
While reading please keep in mind that english is not my native language, so be patient for that.
This build is entirely based around 2 Mechanics:
- Sharper Images + Phantasmal Duelist
- MH Sword + Deceptive Evasion + Confusing Combatants + Debilitating Dissipation
Pros:
- Mobility
- Interrupts
- Very High Stopping Power
- Burst Multiple Conditions
Cons:
- Fragile
- Not so easy to play

- Sigil of Agony on Pistol
- Rampager Amulet + Rabid Jewel is the ONLY combination that allow me to reach 60% critical chance.
I want to have an high crit & condition damage because my clones and phantasms inherit them.
This, paired with Phantasmal Fury, makes my Phantasmal Duelist skyrocket to 80% crit. chance, so almost 7-8 stacks bleeding every bullet barrage. Using Phantasmal Haste it will also shoot every 4.4s.
,.-~*’¨¯¨’*·~-.¸-(_ ( Q.A. Section ) _)-,.-~*’¨¯¨’*·~-.¸
Q: What is the purpose of this build?
A: The key is to land Multiple Conditions in a brief interval of time… with a mesmer. Then deny the heals/escapes, interrupting.
Q: Why do you use sword instead of scepter?! Are you crazy?!
A: Imho, scepter is better for some situations, but way less fun. Sword instead, suits better because my sword-clones will chase to death my targets, applying:
- Weakness, 3x Bleed or 3x Vulnerability at random
AND - Confusion.
Plus, every sword-clone will put Vulnerability AND Bleeding almost every attack. Last but not least, I’ll have Cripple/Immobilize because I HATE PEOPLE THAT RUN AWAY FROM ME.
Q: How does this build do in PvE, dungeons/fractals/solo PvE?
A: Well, in these cases I always make some changes.
But, if I know that in a particular encounter there will be long lasting conditions, (like the spider in AC) or it’s impossibile to stay melee at boss, I use to change the Sword with Scepter in order to use Sigil of Generosity on it.
Scepter & Generosity version
For normal situations, or solo PvE you are perfectly fine with the sword/staff with Sigil of Battle on both.
Sigils are the same :P

- Use the Phantasmal Duelist + Feedback + Magic Bullet combo for 9 stacks of confusion AND 8 stacks of bleeding. You can also Leap-Combo into the Feedback gaining Chaos Armor.
- I often change the Signet of Domination with Arcane Thievery against bunkers/necros.
- Keep in mind that: Clone’s random explosions are the ONLY WAY for a mesmer to apply Weakness.
I hope that you enjoyed my build, suggestions and comments are appreciated
