/Sigh. Once again a games companies “blame” end-users, asks for all sorts of error logs and/or blames out of date drivers etc, rather than their own shoddy coding.

Issues like these ALWAYS seem to appear after one of their game updates, that’s no co-incidence!

IF a GFX driver update is required/recommended to play post-update, you should state it clearly in any upgrade and/or error prompt, rather than the “Random Error 83262….” you usually show post-update. This means diddly-squat to the average layman.

Also, the “system expectation” of the average GW2 player seems to have changed dramatically since original launch and I can’t see why (other than poor/shoddy coding!).

I play a number of FPS/MMO games (CoD, MoH, LotRO, Secret World, Rift, Dishonored, BioShock Infinite) all at max settings with zero issues and a slight-to-medium increase in GFX/Fan speeds, all at a res of 1920*1200.

I can’t play GW2 anymore, even at low settings on a res of 1024*768, without it ramping up GFX/Fan usage and eventually crashing! Poor form!

Edit: I am a 64-bit Win7 user with 16GB of DDR3 RAM, so bang goes the 32-bit only argument. My GFX/Windows/Anything Else drivers are all up to date.

GW2 Overheating GPUs

This is definitely a sloppy GW2 coding issue, I have 2*GTX480 in SLI and get this. I don’t play now because of this issue. If they fix it, I’ll be back.

It’s worth pointing out, I never had this issue at launch, it started occurring after one of their bigger game updates (where they “nerfed/fixed” the Guardian’s retaliation amongst other things).

My CPU is an i5 quad core, my memory is 16GB*DDR3 SLI corsair, my mainboard is an Asus ROG Maximus VI and my tower is an extremely well ventilated, Thermaltake Armor. There is NO dirt/dust in my system, it’s 100% NOT the fault of my hardware.

I have tried both cards in standard SLI, I have tried with 1 card set to pure PhysX and have tried removing 1 card from my setup.

I have done all the above and set all GW2 GFX settings to absolute minimum, including a measly 1024*768 resolution and restarted the game.

When it restarts, even before the character select screen has loaded my GFX fans kick in.

By the time the character screen appears, fans are already running higher (louder) than in any other game I play.

When I’m playing, they get really loud and eventually the game freezes (green screen).

When running any other game on their max settings, I get a slight fan speed increase at most.

Edit:
NOTHING is OC’d on my system, everything is running at stock speeds.
