Say you have a trait that gives you 5% more damage while attuned to fire: when you switch to water, you would lose that 5% damage bonus immediatly.
With lingering elements you keep the 5% damage buff from fire for 5 additional seconds after switching to another element.
Edit: look at your buffs as an elementalist, you always have one up, representing which element you’re on. If you have lingering elements and switch attunements, you will have both the previous (for 5 seconds only) and current attunement buff icons up.
Of course it doesn’t affect arcane fury, elemental attunement and rock solid. Lingering elements is not supposed to extend the duration of -boons- by any means, you just keep the bonuses that you would normally have from being attuned to a certain element for 5 additional seconds after leaving that attunement.

SWTOR has a system exactly like you described and it never worked as it should. Players simply give commendations to their friends. Pretty sure same thing would happen in GW2, specially if players were to be rewarded for earning commendations.
Also, pvp is too chaotic, I don’t believe most players pay attention to who’s doing a good job or not, except for the score, which isn’t a good indicator of ones efectiveness in the game.

Some people seem to think that playing tPVP automatically makes you good. There are as many badies in tPVP as there are in hot join pvp; tPVP players are not in a ‘superior level’ just because they queue with 3 or 4 buddies.
This game is new and no one knows who is good and who’s not. Stop using tPVP players as a reference to anything.

Clocktower is challenging and a little bit difficult, it grows easier as you keep trying, improving your times and finding optimal paths. When you manage to get to the top you really feel like you accomplished something, and that’s what is most important.
ArenaNET, please don’t listen to people who want to dumb down your game, clocktower is perfect. My friends and I had a lot of fun figuring out where to go, cursing at the big characters (:P) and watching everyone try.
I would be VERY VERY disappointed if people just went there, tried a couple times and got to the top in 5 or 10 minutes.

Ride the lightining/Lightning Flash:
If you use Lightning Flash during Ride the lightining animation, the teleport will fail and Lightning Flash will go on cooldown.
I’ve seen a couple of his streams and there is nothing ‘beyond impressive’ or ‘godly’ like you described.
He is a good player, using his skills when he is supposed to and doing what he is supposed to do. But that’s nothing any of the other many capable gamers playing elementalists can’t do.
I don’t get what all this ‘marketing’ is about. I want to believe there are more effective ways to promote the competitive scene.
