Small-guild GMs: let's discuss our future

I agree with a lot of what Helspyre above said. I’d like to add a few more things.

I’m not particularly concerned about the fact that my guild is a small one. Not now.

The game is still relatively new, and players are going to drop off in the next month. There will be the people who got it when it came out, were excited and then got bored once they leveled their main and alts to 80 or close to. Then, there’s going to be the casual gamers who have just picked it up recently, they’re going to play for a month and decide it is not for them. So players are going to drop off and guilds are going to disband. It’s bound to happen. It happens every time with a new MMO. I’m not concerned, because I know that the members I have in my guild are here for the long haul. We’ll still be here once the others break up.

As a Guild Leader, what I’m looking ahead at is Christmas. Our guild is more of the 30+ age range, members with families. A lot of these kinds of gamers are not going to be getting in game until then. If you’re paid bi-weekly, you only have 5 paycheques until Christmas, which isn’t a lot for families. A lot of the older gamers will be receiving the game as gifts, and that’s when guilds aiming for an older membership will see an influx in their ranks. Guilds with younger memberships will see an influx of new players too.

So, do I think there are way too many guilds which makes it harder for guilds to grow? Yes, I do, but I think they’ll peter out. Give it five months or so. In that time, the people who don’t want to play it will leave, more guilds will disband and everything will level out. Right now it’s just excitement.

Signs of the Hunt

Who Are We?

Signs of the Hunt was created just a couple of weeks ago when a small group of players decided to leave The Old Republic and move on to Guild Wars 2. (They asked us to switch servers, and then when we did they closed the new server shortly after. We said, ‘Enough is enough!’) As such, we may not have all the influence that others guilds have, nor the numbers, but we have a guild with active, helpful, mmo veterans.

What We’re About and Who We’re Looking For

We’re mature, casual players in the 30+ age range, who enjoy getting together in parties and doing just about every aspect of the game together. Let it be helping another player with a story quest, exploring, completing events, dungeons or going over into World vs. World.

We’re here to have fun. We do not force members to take part in guild events. If you’re able to hop on and join us, then great. If you can’t, well, that’s fine too. We’re all adults and have life responsibilities. We ask that our members have patience. Life comes before video games.

That said, we’re looking for players who will be active at least five hours a week. We would rather keep the guild small with active quality players, than have a large guild with only a small core group of people.

Our Play Style

Hardcore players may find us a tad exasperating. We’re all older adults, and some of us have children, so every hour or so we end up taking ten minute breaks to attend to familial needs. We often use these lulls to take snack/drink/bathroom breaks. If you’re the type of player who needs to go on marathons, then Signs of the Hunt is most likely not the guild for you. If you’re more of a casual player who’s emphasis is more on just having fun, then we’ll all get along fine.

Right now, with our smaller numbers, we do not have regular scheduled events. We just log on and group up with whoever is there. As our ranks increase, this will change. If you decide to join our guild, and you want to schedule an event, let it be a regular thing or a one off, you are more than welcome to do so.

What We Have

As mentioned earlier, because we’re a newly founded guild, we do not have all the guild influence, and therefore upgrades, that other guilds have. We have been making pretty good progress, though. We currently have:

*Guild Stash
*Guild Emblem

Currently Working On: Politics Level Two

We do have a Mumble server, and we do encourage our members to use it.

How to Apply

If you’re interested in joining up with a bunch of old farts, then visit us at our new website. You will find an application form under the Recruitment tab. The officers will take a look at the application and let you know of the outcome.

Once you are accepted, we do have a two week probation period. Since we are a small guild we need to make sure we all work well together. During this probation period you will not have access to the guild bank, nor the Mumble server, as these are reserved for full members.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a PM.

Quick Notes: We’re a newly formed guild with members that have played other MMOs together. We’re a small, casual, close knit group of players in the 30+ age range. We’re looking for mature, respectful players who understand that, as adults, we have other responsibilities in our lives, and as such, cannot be playing GW2 every day, every minute.
