One thing I’ve found out is that there’s actually third party forums that discuss how to get around anti-bot codes and algorithms. I do not support or condone botting by all means; But I think that devs could use such forums as a very powerful tool to combating bots and the methods they are using to work around getting caught.
Another useful tip is that many of these botters are present at the keyboard and are active members of non-bot guilds, thus making things much more difficult to catch. Any admins interested can email me at my registered email for a website that seems to not only support botting, but actually has step by step instructions on running such programs.
Again, I don’t support such activities thus I will not publicly post such sites in case other players attempt to download and exploit these programs. I feel that botting has damaged the game enough already and discourages me to play. However, I do wish to help Anet in aiding the removal of such players and in turn have no reason to keep DR(the only thing really keeping me from really enjoying the game) in place.
In the economic system we have in place currently, free market will fail. Gems are supposed to be a gold sink from what i understand. Thus, the more gold there is in the game, the more it’s going to cost for gem conversions in order to remove more gold from the game, thus attempting to create an equilibrium. The problem, however, is that gold farmers artificially inflate the prices by creating an in-balance in the system, thus as it tries to compensate itself, those non-bots/non-farmers suffer. Another issue to this is that bots are able to “bypass” the DR in farming via creating more bots for higher volume cash flow, which in reality, DR forces them to have multiple bots in order to truly maximize profits, which in turn ruins farming for legitimate players and ultimately determines the outcome of the game’s economy. I don’t mean to get off topic, but it’s all inter-weaved in the ecosystem.
Now, imo, truly the best way to combat this issue would be to remove DR, but at the same time, remove the ability to mail in-game gold and give the ability to mail gems, or atleast set a limit to how much gold you can mail for specified durations. This will hurt gold farmers/sellers in that it will limit their cash-flow as they will no longer be able to sell massive amounts of gold at a time. It also destroys the automation since someone will actually have to sit there and wait for timeouts to send to a player thus creating a lag in purchaser’s receipt of gold, in turn creating a mistrust in gold sellers. The only question would be how much gold would be limited for how much time? Figure, there are items in game that sell for hundreds of gold, so maybe a scaling feature would apply. IE – 10 gold would have about an hour cooldown before being able to send again, whereas 100g would have a 12 hour cooldown and anything over 100g would have a 24 hour cooldown; All this considering that probably not many people are 1. Able to farm 100g+ in a short amount of time, and 2. Purchase high price-tag items multiple times in the same day.
I feel this is one way to combat bots and gold sellers due to the reasons above plus this will limit how much gold and how often bots will be able to send gold to “mule” accounts if such were to exist, thus slowing their numbers and profits, while removing negative portions of the game that affect legitimate players.
Just my 2cents
Yea.. this DR system is kitten with no concrete evidence of effectiveness. I find it quite counter-intuitive to combating bots. Why? Because a bot that hits DR will soon realize he needs 4 more bots in order to make enough gold to support its gold selling, so what does it do? Makes 4 more bots; thus the noticeable increase in bot population in common farming areas. Meanwhile, legitimate players suffer and end up probably buying gold from the farmers because it’s cheaper and much more time efficient than trying to farm themselves. Then the bots have more money to buy more accounts to create more bots. Vicious cycle? Yes, thanks to Anet creating an ecosystem where bots win, and legitimate players lose. With no active administration that actually logs into servers and bans bots manually, players are the ones that suffer. I was actually planning on buying this game for friends and family because i enjoyed BWE’s so much; Until i played the actual game that is. Anyone who asks, i tell them don’t buy. Not until they remove DR. I do understand the reasoning behind DR, but there are those of us who enjoy farming. We enjoy helping our guilds and friends through farming because that’s the type of player we are. Farming is something not everyone has the patience for, but for those of us that enjoy it, it’s not only profitable, but strategic as we need to figure out the best way to kill as many mobs as fast as possible. Thus, who finds exploits that Anet plugs? Farmers. Who finds bugs from repetitive actions? Farmers. Troll me all you want, but farmers are an important part of any MMO and at this point, GW2 is just not a farmer’s game. I start hitting DR after 2-3 events in Orr. By the time i’m capped, meaning no decent loot, i go do jormag in hopes to reset, however it doesn’t actually reset fully and i’m forced to go do some menial tasks for almost an hour just so i can get back to farming. Not the idea i was going for when i bought this game and feel that i’ve been ripped off. Will i continue playing? Yes, i paid 60 bucks for it, i’m gonna play it. Would i recommend it to anyone else? Hell no.
