@Rieselle, right on the money. How can you expect to convince the designers of the game that their work is unbalanced when the community doesn’t even provide active strat sharing and counter builds. They won’t take any balance complaints seriously until they see players really are exploring all possible avenues or at least actively doing so and giving real number crunching examples instead of knee jerk reactions. I have seen some number crunched by the community and on the other side I HAVE seen dev doing SOME rebalancing. You get out what you put in. Anecdotes won’t cut it.

I’ve been following the spvp for awhile now and pretty much agree about the current state of the spvp in the game. The devs have done a great job creating the GW2 world and PvE environment, overhauling the combat system, personal stories and crafting, and bringing in WvW. Fantastic. And the kitteny threads complaining about balance (and coming from a former WoW shadow priest/current Necromancer ITS NOT THAT BAD). I know it has to be putting off devs replying to posts about additions to sPvP. But I would like to hear an acknowledgement of the general concerns i.e adding:

Dueling
Elimination, KOTH, and GvG pvp modes in some form
Making rewards in sPvP more compelling (either through drops OR fame/reputation)

We already have some feedback on ranked matchmaking which is great. I hope Devs understand how critical sPvP will be to the longevity of the game just as it was in GW1 which mind you took a very long time to get where it is. I think just an acknowledgement of these concerns would be enough to quiet the hornets nest of kittening this forum has been lately.

And in regards to balance…its not a joke. What is a joke is the amount of complaining/nerfing threads and the ABSOLUTE lack of actual strategy sharing. That’s a red flag that not enough people are experimenting or the competent players just aren’t sharing. TBH it gets in the way of discussing the real immediate improvements to the game because balance is hardly ever resolved in a MMORPG, its a constant flux of playstyles and kittens.

Market manipulation morally acceptable?

Sounds like people complaining about others playing the game harder than themselves.

And noone in this thread has attempted to define “manipulation”. Insider trading is manipulation, the libor scandal was manipulation because both examples are about trading a public commodity using PRIVATE knowledge or knowledge that is not evenly accessible. That is cheating.

But ppl buying up items and reselling them for higher prices? That’s called capitalism. They have no advantage that you don’t have or couldnt have with more time put into the game (unless they are buying gold but even then if you really wanted to you could do the same).

It takes resources to corner a market, and they have to BUY the goods in the first place. Sellers can join the tide of inflation and the market should balance. Also we are talking about infinite resources so the market value is really based on ppls unwillingness to farm the stuff themselves. Just because YOU don’t want to do it does not mean ANET should start nerfing the world. Entailment much?

And talking about moral imperatives in an MMO? Puuuuhhh-leeeeease. No its not immoral. Its annoying…but so is whining.

AND ALSO…@marnick…you’re wrong about microsoft and the market: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft
