Guild Wars 2

I’m part of an incredibly large guild, 400+ members(still occasionally hitting 100+ concurrently logged in) and as such guild chat can get a little hectic.

While I like pretty much everyone in the guild to some degree or another, I’ve got a smaller core group of friends that I’m constantly doing stuff with such as dungeons, running around the world doing events/completion/etc. We’ve usually got a 5 person party going and /party chat works great for private conversations and just keeping in touch when we’re all spread out without making guild chat spammier than it usually is.

However, there are more than 5 of us in our little circle of friends so people inevitably end up getting left out. That sucks. It does nothing but create unnecessary tension and potential drama when we have to decide who gets to be in the chat group, assuming we’re not running dungeons or whatever.

We were looking into purchasing a Commander book, but after learning that anyone who wants can just join your squad without permission, that doesn’t feel like a very good alternative.

It feels like our only current alternative would be to create a secondary guild for personal chat, but we’re for the most part all at least some variety of junior officer in our main guild and we don’t want to leave our guild or make people feel like we’re ignoring them to play in our own clubhouse. We just want a place we can communicate with our friends without resorting to outside the game means.

To this end, custom chat channels would pretty much solve everything. I’m pretty sure we’re not the only people running into this issue.
