So the other day I was exploring Timberline Falls (as an aside, I really love that area, the landscapes are amazing), when I entered a cave seeking a skill point. This particular cave was guarded by grawl with a few berserkers at and just inside the entryway. After thrashing these sentries, I went on inside only to encounter two veteran grawl (one shaman and a berserker), which would be an involved fight under the best circumstances when alone; however, I was in a cave without much room to maneuver so eventually I found myself having to advance in a different direction (read: fall back). When all of a sudden, the berserkers that I had already killed maybe a minute or so earlier come at me from behind. (I eventually won the day through ruggedness and some fancy moves I learned in disco class.) Now, I can respect these kind of tactics, though I doubt the grawls’ ability to formulate even a basic ambush, but in this case it was simply a matter of them taking advantage of the short respawn times.
The point of that anecdote is that it isn’t an isolated incident. I can’t recall all of the times that respawning baddies have ruined my picnic plans; though it is undoubted that enemies must respawn (and fairly quickly) due to the nature of the game. So, here is my idea :
tl;dr
When a player defeats an enemy, when it respawns it is not automatically hostile to that player, it would respawn as a “yellow” creature (such as moas, boars, and the like) and would only become hostile to the player who defeated it previously if attacked by that player. Maybe if not permanently, then it could be this way for a period of time, say a few hours, to prevent ganks such as the previously mentioned one and/or to encourage exploration. I also understand that this could only work for the rank-and-file enemies, not veterans or higher.
Please weigh in with your thoughts on my idea and your own. Thanks.
OP you have my vote. +1 to this idea.
Coming from GW1, something that I highly anticipate for GW2 are the holiday celebrations. Holiday celebrations in GW1 were always a ton of fun, and wouldn’t you know? One of my favorites, Halloween, is right around the corner. I really am looking forward to seeing what the plan is for the celebration. Maybe Mad King Thorn will be back with his bad jokes (What’s the difference between a Paragon and a drunkard, anyone?). Just a little something to think about…
As a disclaimer, this is pure speculation, I haven’t the faintest idea what, if anything, is in the works for holidays.
