Hi there! I might be dragging a dead thread from it’s grave, but I’m interested in these kinds of topics! (:
There is some lore in place that makes some profession/race combinations odd or rare in context of the majority of the race.
Elementalist: Humans, Asura, Sylvari, Charr
Charr Elementalists would be approached with caution by other charr. In general, the Charr don’t really trust magic. (This is due to the Flame/Gold Legion assaulting the other High Legions).
Engineer: Charr, Human, Asura
Pretty self-explanatory. With the Charr’s industrial revolution, they’ve somewhat coined the engineering profession single-handedly. Asura have their golems and other structures, and Human’s are technologically advanced as well (though not like the Charr)
Guardian: Human, Sylvari, Norn,
Humans are self-explanatory (ex. Logan Thackeray). Sylvari are “noble” creatures, and their intentions are pure, excluding the Nightmare Court of course. Norn are a spiritual people, and perhaps through communicating with the Spirits of the Wild they are “blessed” with special defensive magics.
Mesmer: Human, Sylvari, Asura(?)
Humans again are self-explanatory. With the human queen being a mesmer, I’m sure many people are wanting to learn mesmer magics. Sylvari and Asura are two of the more “magical” races, especially Sylvari.
Necromancer: Human, Sylvari, Norn (?)
While many humans look down on the practice of necromancy in GW2 era Tyria (probably because of all the undead terrorizing their livelihoods), still some humans could practice it. There are priest’s of Grenth still in-game, and Grenth is the god of death after all. Sylvari are perhaps the most curious about death among the races. Not that they are seeking to die as soon as they can, but they wonder about necromancy and see its value (Also, Trahearne is a necromancer). Norn is a bit of a stretch, but with the Spirits of the Wild they can be seen as close to the Mists/Underworld I suppose.
Ranger: Human, Norn, Charr, Sylvari
Plenty of human rangers in the universe (ex. Aidan). Norn are hunters, and with assistance from Snow Leopard could be formidable ranged foes. Charr rangers could have a place in the Ash Legion as marksman, and Sylvari are the most attuned to nature.
Thief: Human, Charr, Asura
As part of human character creation, you can choose to have grown up on the streets, which thieving would probably be essential to survival. With the Charr, Ash Legion thieves are very common. Asura have been known to steal other’s plans. Whether for a golem, gate, or other construction.
Warrior: Any
Warriors are pretty typical. When you look at the Vigil as a whole, pretty much every race is represented there. Charr of course would most likely lead the numbers in Warrior’s due to their warlike upbringing and culture, but any race could be a part of their city’s security force, or the Vigil.
And that is my 2 cents! If anyone wants to add/subtract or debate something please respond. Let’s keep threads like this going!
Much love. Play on.
