Should we see Progress too?

So throughout the game we’ve seen zones devastated to showcase the damage done by the Elder Dragons and other enemies.

This is particularly notable in Mordremoths giant vines, the devastation of Kessex Hills from the toxic tower falling, and the destruction of Lion’s arch.

Now in a lot of games that make such updates, the devastation simply remains, a perpetual reminder of the threat and danger posed by the enemies we face, but I feel that these changes lose impact on new players who have never seen the zones in their original states, and that over time the devastation may leave more zones with lots of damage that hurt the aesthetic of the game a bit.

Personally I think the solution is to occasionally show the various factions in the game rebuilding areas that were damaged, or even making progress in their own territories or expanding into new areas, positive change can balance out the feeling that we’re constantly getting beaten on by enemies without much to show for it besides Phat Lewt, and help the NPCs look competent, which helps us care about and remain invested in the setting.

What do you all think?

Should updates always just be to show the threat of a new enemy or should we see repairs and other changes as well?

Yes, the story steps will be restored to their original order. We’re looking into removing the airdrop step as part of the fixes as well.

My advice to people who are interested in playing the restored Personal Story (which will include the Greatest Fear steps, original chapter 8 ordering, and various minor text and VO updates) is to not complete A Light in the Darkness (in chapter 6). That way you’ll be able to play the restored content in its entirety when it goes live.
We’re currently discussing release dates and will share that information when we’re able. Thanks again for all your great suggestions and patience.

Awh crud, I really wish there’d been some kind of ingame notice, I already completed a Light in the darkness on my main guy.

So I just got to the Source of Orr quest and realized I didn’t recognize a lot of the NPCs, I looked them up on the Wiki to see if I’d just forgotten them, but then realized they were actually from quests I hadn’t done yet, which was very strange to me.

Looking further I realized a good chunk of the Quests in that chain were removed, including the ones based on my characters ‘fear’ that they’d confided to the Pale tree.

This was really disappointing and I’m trying to find out if there are plans to fix this in the future or not.

And, in the event the folks at Anet are constrained by the folks with the pursestrings, yes, here’s some extra ammo so you can get them to give you the resources you need to fix this.

This is costing you money, I was all set to buy some stuff from the gem store for my character when I’d finished this chunk of the personal story, but since it’s all out of order I’m putting a hold on it and leveling some alts instead.

Cosmetic abilities / Combat-only durations

I’m new to the game (just started during the free trial not so long ago) and I enjoy RP, I’ve noticed some of the cool aesthetic abilities don’t last terribly long though so I was wondering if it’d be game-breaking or not to have abilities such as the Lighning Hammer or Mesmer-portal have a longer (say three or five minutes?) duration out of combat, but to wind down when in-combat at their current rates.

This would allow people to have fun with them in cities and such while curbing misuse.

Thoughts?
