Those that complain have too short of attention span to read posts that contain more than 3 sentenses.
I made very similar thread few weeks ago. This new patch really messed my messmer up! :@
Advices I’ve got:
1. gear up (not really an option if it’s your first toon)
2. go into Edge of the Mists and power level there (not an option if its your first toon, so you don’t want to miss on the story and timely rewards)
3. go into lowbie areas and level there. Quest rewards will be bad but you will get something out of the lore. This wasn’t an option for me cos I play for rewards!).
When I posted that thread I was level 46. Now I am level 51. Granted I didn’t play much, cos game is no longer as fun as pre patch. Anyway I am using the first option – gear up! I’m poor now, I’ve spend a lot on weapons/armor (crafting jewels myself), but now I can crawl forward! So it’s up to you which option you’ll decide to chose. GL!
Thanks a lot for all the advices that you gave me guys! I have never been into Edge of the Mists because story never guided me there. But I will try that place just to see what it’s like!
Teutos.8620, I know that mesmer is still a playable class, but it’s not enjoyable anymore especially after I have seen what it’s like to be a mesmer with traits I’ve mentioned in my first post.
To be more specific, I used greatsword/sword-pistol/focus as my weapons. I tried shatter build but it was too weak for single target damage and too risky due to my lack of experience with this game. Then I tried noob friendly phantasm build. Got me Empowered Illusions with Greatsword Training (love this trait!) then I went for Phantasmal Fury and unlocked Sharper Images (<3).
Now all of that was taken from me! I didn’t even have enough time to enjoy this when ArenaNet decided that I had enough fun and changed everything! Actually I wish I had never tried this build before, maybe I wouldn’t feel as helpless as I am right now.
Anyway I will try Greatsword/Staff now. Staff seemed too difficult to master when i tried it during my early levels. But what kind of stats i should focus on? Still power/precision? Or maybe I should lean more towards condition? Is it ok if I will mix all three? Thanks!
I am a new player that doesn’t like new changes at all! I thought this patch had to help new players, but it made things worse…
As you can see from the title I am level 46. I’ve got stripped from essential leveling traits Greatsword Training, Deceptive Evasion, Sharper Images, Illusionist’s Celerity, Phantasmal Haste… I don’t know what kind of build to run now. I have 14 more levels till I will unlock all those traits that make my class fun and playable again. It will be too long cos mesmers without some of those traits are so… kittenty.
I don’t want to power level to 60. I don’t want to waste money on expensive items so I could have a little easier time. I know most people that visit forums are lvl80 already and have no idea how new players could struggle with these new changes. But yeah, they made mesmers so bad to the point that I want to reroll. Please help me with the build, thanks!
I am from UK as well and new too. I bought this game last week and have been playing in Pikens Square since then. Why? “Unofficial Roleplaying” server they say, and RP servers attract more mature players (unless GW2 is an exception). Also it’s population is High so that should transfer into less lag in crowded locations. All that was my reasoning why I chose this server.
So far I’ve only been in Norn and Human lands. Number of people around seems just about right, not too many not too little. People don’t spam in /map chat that much. Infact it’s pretty quiet there. I guess most newbs don’t know how to use it anyways haha!
I have seen one shout in Russian and one in Italian. Advertising their guilds probably, but other than that chat was purely in English.
I bought Guild Wars 2 last week. At first I did not notice any lag at all, I was busy trying to optimize graphics so I could play with better fps. When I sorted that out, I delved into the game. But since yesterday (Sunday) I can barely enjoy it. GW2 lags so much! I checked my latency and it’s 250ms on average and yes I get randomly disconnected… I have been playing in Piken Square server (population Heavy, not even Very Heavy…) and I’m from London. So yeah… Ping is worse than what I get playing LOTRO in some servers located in U.S. (it’s around 110ms there). My ISP is BT as well, tho I don’t know what kind of contract and which plan I have (I’m buying internet from my landlord). I’m screwed basically unless ArenaNet will sort it out for me. So please help!
Also it’s Monday and midday here and I am lagging bad. Why?
Edit: just did speedtest to one of the servers in Frankfurt and result was: ping 20ms, download speed 36Mb/s, upload speed 9Mb/s. So why am I lagging in Piken Square server which is supposedly located in Frankfurt as well?
