Not to mention this is the ONLY ITEM IN THE GAME that requires a gift to create that drops from a boss. Where are all the other items that require “gift of …” dropping? Not even the counterpart to this bow Wintersbark (which is the same skin, just a shortbow) drops anywhere. If ANET wants these items to drop, they need to make them across the board instead of trivializing the recipe.
How do you know that Wintersbite really dropped and someone didn’t just “ping” the item as a joke? How do you know that Wintersbark has never dropped anywhere on any server during any event ever?
You’re making a lot of assumptions without access to the information that any Anet employee could know if there was a reason for him to know it.
Alright, let’s see where I’m getting all my information from.
First off let’s look at the forum post stating they got this item from Jormag’s chest.

Right there are several players claiming they got it from the Jormag chest. Now let’s look at all the known unique exotic weapons that require gifts with their quantity that are available for sale and their current prices.
Foefire’s Essence
Supply – 10 Sell Price – 500g
Foefire’s Power
Supply – 4 Sell Price – 445g
Aether
Supply -5 Sell Price – 560g
Azureflame
Supply – 1 Sell Price- 550g
Eidolon
Supply – 0 Sell Price – n/a
Wings of Dwayna
Supply – 5 Sell Price- 459g
Feathers of Dwayna
Supply – 0 Sell Price – n/a
Wintersbite
Supply – 16 Sell Price- 94g
Wintersbark
Supply – 1 Sell Price – 295g
Mjolnir
Supply – 1 Sell Price -1950g
Volcanus
Supply – 17 Sell Price-445g
I want to also bring special attention to wintersbark. This is the exact same skin as wintersbite, but its a shortbow instead of a longbow. The materials for the 2 weapons would cost exactly the same were you to make them in the mystic forge.
Now if ANET wants these weapons dropping from chests that’s fine with me. That will reduce the cost of lodestones significantly for the gifts that need them (looking at you charged). However, if they just have 1 item dropping all they’re doing is making the recipe to create it pointless. Anyone who actually uses the MF recipe to create wintersbite is shooting themselves in the foot investment wise because they can just sell half their lodes and buy it straight from the TP.
Why don’t we limit everything to crafting, take away all chest drops so only certain players can make money…
The OP is ridiculous and deserves ridiculous responses, everything should have a chance to drop and everything should be craft-able, either should be viable…
“Play the way you want to play” – remember that?
Why don’t we limit everything to RNG, take away all craft so only certain players can make money.
Your logic is ridiculous and deserves ridiculous responses.
The fact of the matter is though everything isn’t droppable and everything cannot be crafted. There are certain items that can only be obtained from boss chests or recipes using the mystic forge. The fact that this item has both has made the crafting of this item pointless, and that is my problem with it dropping.

I see this in MMO after MMO. “I worked so hard for this thing, it should never become easier to get later.” Like having it for a few months before everyone can get it isn’t a reward by itself, or other people getting “your” special thing makes you less worthwhile as a person.
Gold’s not even needed to enjoy this game. It can be accumulated in large amounts, things can be sold for lots of it when others have accumulated enough to spend, but really one can do just fine without it. So if one source of profit is lessened, and you really feel the need to see those numbers go up at the bottom of your bag panel, then find another means to make it.
It has nothing to do with that. Its the fact that it makes a recipe in game pointless, IE no reason to use it. What is the purpose of making a game mechanic useless?
because you could use the recipe if you don’t want to gamble with RNG while doing boss event, after boss event, after boss event for days?
What do you mean gamble with RNG? Just buy it off the AH for 90g from some other player who won the RNG lottery. The cost to make with the mystic forge is as follows
1 Eldritch Scroll (50 Skillpoints)
1 Gift of Ice
~250 Orichalcum Ingot (16-17g)
~100 Glacial Lodeston (45-50g)
~100 Corrupted Lodestone (140-150g)
~1 Gift of the Sanctuary (500 HotW Relics)
100 Mystic Coin (5g)
250 Ancient Longbow Stave (25g)
So if you use the Mystic forge recipe to make this it will cost between 231-247g not to mention 8 runs of HoTW for tokens and the 50 skillpoints for the scroll. So tell me, who in their right mind would use the recipe instead of just selling some of their mats and buying it straight from the AH?

The fact of the matter is that there is no point to EVER use the lodes and materials to craft this weapon in the mystic forge. Having it drop has made this weapon 1/3 of its former price to make. So this is either a bug that ANET refuses to acknowledge or it’s intended and they just decided that player should no longer buy the lodes and craft this weapon.
From what I’ve been reading lately it seems that Wintersbite which requires the gift of ice to craft is dropping from Jormag. What’s the point of even having these mystic forge recipes if the item is going to drop from boss chests? This item which would cost a couple of hundred gold to make is only costing 88g on the TP due to inflation. Is this just a bug or do other items that require a gift drop from bosses too?
