FA should be dominating TC from reset to the end of the match and be even with BG in scores. Heck, FA might beat BG.

I mean, how can FA not? Lets see:

FA faced TC for 7 weeks. Yes ladies, for 7 weeks. How many of those matchups did FA win? Let’s see here…let me check…hang on…no, that can’t be right! The Roleplayers of TC beat the PvPers of FA every one of those 7 weeks. FA had to have learnt a lot from that experience in how to PvP. Erm no, to Roleplay. No, to PvP.

Fort Aspenwood (“FA x got” with x removed is a cuss word for the forum. Ha ha ha) got a huge influx of PvP guilds before the free transfers ended. Don’t believe any FA guys saying they didn’t get many, they’re too modest. TC got next to none in terms of transfers and is struggling to even have some members of couple of small Oceanic guilds we have had on the server for months to actually, finally, at last make it to the server. BG got a few guilds before the free transfers ended, but not as many as FA.

TC seems to have had a bugged WvW queue lately such that we can’t field more than 30 people per map. Several servers in Europe and a few in NA have reported the same problem, but FA seem to not have this issue.

TC is the underdog here.

Hence my expectation that FA should be beating TC by a huge margin by this time next week and be on par at least with BG.

Who from TC will wager a bet with me that FA beats TC by a huge margin this time next week? WHO?

Looking forward to facing Fort Aspenwood in the next match.

TC had the better of FA in every one of the 7 weeks TC and FA fought in the past, but this FA is not the old FA.

FA has gained a bunch of major WvW guilds since TC and FA faced each other last and have some hype going for them. TC is the same old TC, no moves, no hype. We’re like Hotel California – we’re on a dark desert highway, not easy to reach. But if you get in with us, you can’t ever leave.

FA are heavily favored, have the momentum and will probably look at this as a grudgematch against TC. It should be fun, unless SoS or BG blanket out the map.

Yak’s Bend is where I would have been WvWing till the end of days if it wasn’t for me starting on Tarnished Coast for it being the unofficial RP server. If I ever leave TC, it’ll be for YB and no other, tiers be kitten

YB has never had the numbers, but they bring a lot of humor together with fighting spirit, for the limited numbers they have. If WvW wasn’t about the size of the dog in the fight but rather the size of the fight in the dog, I’d bet money on YB being T1.

Tarnished Coast is at “Very High” and has been open for any transfers for a few days now.

The current WvW matchup scores might look a little lopsided against TC, but this is a server which hasn’t seen any significant influxes or outfluxes. Our WvW population is very stable. A few Toasters are just taking a rest break from the hard battles over the last few weeks, the rest are out there doing what we do best – having fun fighting.

Few people outside TC gave us a shot at T3. We hit T3.
Few people outside TC gave us a shot at getting into T2. We entered T2.
Few people outside TC gave us a shot at anything but 3rd place in T2. We placed 2nd last matchup in T2.

TC isn’t a flash in the pan server. Your guild will not be one of the scores to throng a server and will not be joining a server which has seen desertions by PvP guilds, if you join TC.

I’m just curious, and I’m not attempting to be inflammatory, but I keep reading many people moved because of issues with the community on their server. Isn’t it everyone’s responsibility on a server to help their community, rather then abandon it? I can’t imagine a guild with 400 members can’t assist with creating a better community. I would personally find it intimidating to see a guild of 400 people show up in WvW!! Cuz.. HOLY KITTEN!!

My take is: Its just a rum thing to do, shows lack of character, call it what you will, but nobody owes a debt to anyone. I wouldn’t move servers ever myself regardless of TC’s position on the ladder or how outnumbered we are in WvW, but then I didn’t move to GW2 with any friends I’d been playing games with for years.

I imagine that if the leader of the guild I played for a few years in, had friends in who I had known for many years, decided against my best advice that the guild should leave for another server, I would face a choice – do the honorable thing by nameless people (who I didn’t know how many of would still play even if I stayed) OR decide that its a game, its for fun and move servers to continue to play with my friends.

Much like in real life, these decisions show character, but I can’t really look down on people for taking the easy, fun way. Its just human. I bet a bunch of transferees were teamstackers out for ‘teh win lolz pwnt’ cowadooty types but a decent amount are also people just trying their best to hang on to the relationships they feel they have online.

Its just a rum situation for a lot of servers on the receiving end of desertions and/or unbalanced tiers because of them. But such is life. It’ll sort itself out in time and we’ll all reach a new balance. I’m sure new players will continue to trickle into the game, without any of the baggage of disappointments some existing WvWers have these days.

On balance I’d rather people do whatever they have to, to continue to enjoy the game rather than quit. If that means moving even though they know its not the honorable thing to do, so be it.

• Every server in the game has PvPers who are as skilled as any on another server. There’s something to be said about individual skill and team co-ordination, but size of the PvP base will always be the limiting factor on skill. TC beat the likes of YB and FA to move up the ladder not because Coasters are more skilled, but because we had more numbers over a 24 hour period. That’s just the way things go. I’m happy for SoS, JQ, BG, SoR that they have far better numbers and coverage than TC.

one thing i would like to add here is that out of all the servers we have faced, YB had some of the better PvPers. they just had poor coverage. this is just my opinion based on the time frames i play in.

I completely agree. Yak’s Bend had some fantastic PvPers. Very poor coverage, but they fought very well and used some hilarious tactics. Those guys were the ones I’ve fought against who seemed to be in it most at all for the fun and were skilled to boot.

Now you’ve made me miss playing against YB. :-[

Tarnished Coast has it all – skilled PvPers, very collaborative PvErs and welcoming RPers. Plus we have not one, but many nickname to choose from – you could be a Toaster, Coaster, Boaster, Boater, Bloater, Moper…the possibilities are only as limited as your own vocabulary!

Give us a look if you’re looking for quality folks to play WvW with.

SBI is severely outmanned in T2 right now and keep coming out to fight regardless. That’s the attitude everyone who loves playing with quality PvPers respects. Any PvP guilds transferring to SBI would find the server does them great credit.

For the specific example, I didn’t think to take screenshots at the time to forward to the guild leader; I will be sure to do that next time. Without screenshots, I’m not going to accuse anyone by name. But my example still stands as an illustration of a problem.

I don’t see how you go from that to implying that I’m driving WvWers away from TC. Or do you think most people are so delusional they really think that there aren’t kitten on every server and that the number of kitten in WvW seems to be not proportional to the server’s standing in the rankings?

And sorry, I don’t agree with you that I shouldn’t say anything at all unless I take names. If you think I’m actively trying to damage our server using a figment of my imagination, I can’t help your point of view.

There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already said in a better way by others in this thread. I’ll put down some of my own thoughts though:

• I’m actually hoping that TC keeps getting smashed by SoR and loses with such a huge margin this week that the server hoppers who joined TC when it made its sharp move up for T6 to T2 leave TC before paid transfers kick in for elsewhere, preferably BG or SoS. :p I wouldn’t wish them on SBI or SoR. We seem to have attracted a few people with plain sour attitudes ourselves.

• A morning in the last week ago I saw someone wearing the tag of one of the more respected guilds on TC outright insult, abuse and heckle a teammate in WvW map chat for a good 30 minutes because the guy at the receiving end actually called strategy when nobody stepped up to lead in the absence of commanders in EB and we lost a keep. The guy dishing out the abuse didn’t squeak during the defense, but the vitriol he poured out after was astounding. I’m not going to name the person or the clan (lets just say this guild’s name comes up frequently whenever anyone distributes accolades for TC). This experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

This would have never happened when TC was T4/T5.

• TC didn’t attract anything in terms of the PvP guild transfers which Kaineing, SoR, etc have recently benefited from, but we did attract some idiots though. If TC can be rid of its kitten, even if the server drops a tier or seven, I’ll be happy PvPing for a very very long time, rankings be kitten Its a great community here. We’re marred not just by being a T3 server facing the prospect of facing a succession of T1 servers in T2, but out own (small number of) bad attitudes.

• The tier system is designed so as to encourage guilds to move up the ladder and measure their fun that way. People need goals. My hope for TC was T3, to be one of the top 9 servers in WvW one day. We have achieved that with some margin and very fast. I am very happy.

• There are some fantastic people on every server I’ve played against. Yes, even Blackgate. However long we play SoR and SBI for, I personally have nothing but respect for everyone on your servers. Yes, even the (I bet newcomers) who danced on my corpse last night after I went for an attack solo vs 7, SoR. There’s always a couple of jerks everywhere.

• TC’s place seems to be in T3 or T4, not T2. The same goes for SBI. There’s a huge gap between T5/T6 and T3/T4 and again between T3/T4 and T1. Things won’t be very fun for a lot of Coasters for some time, unless the volatility in server movements up and down the tier increases.

Anyone on SBI want to take a mesmer and/or engineer under your wing? Engineer is 80, but I’ll get my mesmer to 80 in a couple of weeks if I focus on it. Mesmer is 64 or 65 as of lunchtime today. When it comes to PvP, consider me to be “bad.” But I’m willing to listen and learn. I’ve got 7 kids and a full time job in the CST time zone, but I’d love to actually be an asset when I hop into WvW even if it’s only for short periods at a time.

Score update. I just want to say that if SBI guilds are all hopping servers, I hope that the rumors are wrong and that some will consider TC, or other servers that are not winning their tier. Otherwise, this week is going to be pretty meh.

I’m someone who is of NO consequence on TC, so I don’t speak for the server at all

My own personal thought is that anyone who jumps out of SBI should jump to a server which is clearly outgunned – look at the servers FA or Kaineing are fighting. Or even go help motivate WvWers in Tier 7 or 8, rather than come to TC with the expectation that TC will somehow roll into T1 in the future and dominate.

People should come to TC if they think they’ll enjoy the things TC has to offer which they won’t find on another server which is outgunned in terms of coverage. They shouldn’t come to TC if they are looking for ‘teh win’.

Honestly, as much as I like the like the idea of people transferring to TC, I don’t want TC to become ‘Yet Another FOTM’. And I do not want the PvPers who are on SBI or ANY server to leave their server unless they are so disheartened they are going to stop playing the game.

Chips, you’ve written a wonderful post and I feel your emotion, even though I cannot possibly feel it with the sadness that you do.

The problem SBI has had is one of expectations. A lot of other servers have had the same problem, but not as acutely as SBI. Staying in the same tier for a while is unhealthy for any server, regardless of of wether the server stays #1 in the tier or #3 or even #2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but SBI has been T1 for most of the time since release. You had people join with T1 expectations who benchmarked themselves against other servers in T1, not all servers and when they started being part of the #3 team in the tier, needed a drop in the tiers to start winning and feeling better – but that drop didn’t happen for a while.

Now you’d had some more people leave, and guess where they’re going? T1 or T2 rank 1 (nothing against SoR). These people are going to be miserable again in a while if whenever they get to T1 they find that they happen to be on the #3 server again and the server doesn’t drop to T2.

The ebb and flow in terms of getting a beating and administering a beatdown in a part of WvW – the ratings system is self correcting, meaning that no server will always get dominated. Get dominated enough for long enough and you drop a tier till you find a happy spot. The problem is that the ‘long enough’ part is too long for a lot of PvPers. People want to win NOW. Or the next matchup.

I don’t have any ideas to share. I can only share my sympathy with you and my admiration and respect to you and every PvPer sticking with SBI – you guys bring a really great fight everytime TC clashes with you. I’ve been curbstomped myself enough times by SBI PvPers, both in group vs group and 1 vs 1 to appreciate the skill with which you guys play.

I’m a little wary myself of TC hanging out in T2 too long, as much as I feel the PvP community on TC won’t jump ship – almost all of us started on TC at release when the server was . Most of the PvPers who joined TC have been on TC since release, even though TC started in Tier 4. We’ve attracted some server jumpers as we climbed to T2, but almost all of our PvP base started knowing we were a T4 server and were ok with that. Still, I’m sure the casual PvPers will step into WvW less and less if TC ever gets stuck at #3 in a tier for a while and doesn’t drop down a tier.

I hope you guys staying on SBI feel proud of what you’ve accomplished. There are more accomplishments to come. Keep coming out there – you’ll find a place where you have the opportunity for even fights and maybe dominate and move up again.

As for the guild tearing itself apart – this is one reason I tend to not join guilds. Like all relationships, unless you can keep yourself emotionally distant, it hurts whenever things stop working out – and things do stop working out eventually for everything with everyone. But then, if we’re going to be emotionally distant, whats the point of a relationship?

Hang in there. Server guesting will be on soon. Come guest for a bit (don’t transfer, unless all of your pals leave SBI) on Tarnished Coast some weekend and hang out with us at a roleplaying event. I’m a PvPer and I promise its pretty cool.

Weve been trying to get a strong community and more strong guilds to be a part of the community and actually stay with us forever…it’s finally paying off…just because you haven’t gotten that doesn’t mean you need to hate.

Nobody from TC is hating on SoR for getting transfers, please read posts again. That’s just not our style. Some of us are bemused, however. SBI has been downright classy about this, in my opinion. They haven’t shown their aggravation much, if at all.

I suggest expanding your sentiment detector beyond just love or hate. Neither SBI nor TC have flamed SoR for this. If you think we’re ‘hating’, I have to wonder what you would call a server in T1 DDOSing another server’s voice comm server or sending their commanders/leaders hate messages and boasting about it.

Teamstacking is to PvPers what bigotry is to the Tea Partiers. Every one of them will deny it, but a bunch of them do it.

People want to win to feel skilled, but when they’re not, they just join the winning team to make themselves feel skilled. Such the circular logic of being happy.

This isn’t a dig at SoR, but rather at the jokers who have and continue to join SoS. The need-to-fight-the-odds-to-feel-good masochists are a rare breed in PvP anywhere, even though almost everyone in any PvP game will claim that mantle with furious chest-thumps.

Anyways, we in TC should hunker down for a long bruising fight, since there are 4 T1 servers now. It’d be interesting to see how the next couple of months go.

What you’re essentially asking is for us to predict what skill level in terms of tier a server like Kaineng is at. And then predict which other servers will be in that tier with Kaineng.

Kaineng right now is a bit of an aberration among lower tier servers and this behavior is likely due to some factors specific to the server like WM transferring there, triggering transfers by some other PvP guilds from across the low-mid tier servers.

Kaineng is on its way up from T6 and should continue to rise till they hit T3. I won’t be surprised if they go further.

But you also mentioned you’re not interested in any of the top servers, which I’m guessing excludes Tier 1 -3.

I bet you can find WvW PUGs on every server, so that won’t help to narrow things down.

If you pick any server in the T4 – T6 range, you should find what you are looking for. Unless some major drama happens, Kaineng won’t be hanging out in that range for long at all.

I didn’t transfer; I started on TC and am going to stay here regardless of whether the server is T1 or T8.

I have a strong background in competetive PvP in GW1, SC and CS, but don’t have the time or interest anymore to spend hours everyday dedicating myself to just PvP and dealing with the bad attitudes which often go along with it. I still enjoy PvP and do my best, but with whatever I have, not worrying about my game time, gear, who I’m playing with or against.

And I like roleplay. I don’t call myself a roleplayer, but anything that adds more immersion to the world we play in is awesome to me. Having RPers around brings a flavor to the world which enriches my in-game time, even if I never roleplay myself.

Just yesterday – I hung out with some TC PvPers in WvW as we held off repeated attacks on Speldan from a much bigger SBI force and took the fight to SoR with a bunch of others after getting curb-stomped by then in EB.

I also ran into an initiation ceremony in the middle of nowhere in the world, players who I happened to do a dynamic event with tried to strike up a friendly banter with me in-character, someone I cheered during a different event sent me cookies and pie to say thank you, even though I never talked to them.

TC is a server that’s perfect for me. There are and will be severs with more hardcore guilds, better point margins and ratings than TC, but the mix of enthusiasm for WvW and the flavors players bring to my experience out of WvW are very very dear to me. I wouldn’t leave this server for my significant other if they were playing and wanted to move.

While I know that everyone who PvPs on TC doesn’t do it with my perspective, I bet a lot do.

I do have a hunch that PvPers on TC are ‘long-haul’ players. I bet this server continues to punch far above its ‘roleplayer’ reputation in PvP for a long time to come.

Had some fun duels in SoR BL at champs tonight.
As for the night capping, our numbers have shot up this week a lot, before you saw your core wvw guilds mostly, and this week a lot of others have been joining the fight, unfortunately their only motivation was map completion… so not sure how long the numbers will last once they all get it.

Its all good. I’m happy for SoR – you guys were more than a match for BG during NA primetime; but got to hear some playful taunts because of the points difference in matchups. Its good you’re getting the coverage you were wishing for.

I’ve never understood people being angsty with each other over night capping. Its a valid mechanic for gaining points as designed. And by the way, not that I really need to mention it, but TC has always lost in the points margin overnight relative to other servers.

Lets crib at ANet for it, not each other. BG did ok nightcapping when they did it in T2; they could. Its fine that SoR is doing it now in T2; they can.

Bandwagoners have left and joined servers in significant numbers, enough to tip the scales against and for. Its not a fault of character with the servers who have gained or with those who have lost through it.

Very few of us are, defending what they can. Honestly, SoR has just had far superior resources the last few overnights and mornings. I’m happy for you guys that you seem to have some folks returning to WvW for this matchup and some people transferring in. We’ll keep bringing it, but at this stage and this time of the night, we’re far short of what we need to make it an even contest with SoR, frankly. This is taking nothing away from the effort you guys have put in this match.
