Exotic Back piece

Why farm for exotic if you can farm for ascended? :P Do fractals until you get a “vial of condensed mists essence” to drop. Then farm loads of rare items and craft your own back piece in the mystic forge.

On the wiki page of the vial of condensed mists essence is an overview of back pieces that need this ingredient, with a comparison of stats:

I tip my hat to thee Sir.

I had not thought about that one yet.

Thanks for the helpful and speedy response. Exactly what I needed

Exotic Back piece

Hey Folks,

Recently got all my gear to exotic (Lvl80 Guardian) except the back piece.
Sadly enough I’m one of the players whom had connection problems during the Karka event and thus did not get a chance at the back piece there.
I always figure that if you have time to complain about something; you have the time to work on a solution. Thus:

Anyone happen to know where I would be able to find\farm a good exotic back piece?
(Preferably Power, Precision, Crit %)

I tried google-ing but all i get referred to is the rare Guild back piece. Also at the trader I can’t seem to figure out under which category back pieces fall (Couldn’t find any under trinkets…)

Thus if anyone happens to know where I could find\buy\farm for one it would be greatly appreciated.

I never have a problem doing WvW as a Guardian. Better yet: I love it
I usually take 1-10 folks down before going down myself on average.

My ONLY problem:
In the large zergs where everyone is doing mass AoE damage? I can’t get close enough to use my Greatsword; yet how to counter it? Staff + Scepter, Talisman. I Switch to a more supporting role. Stopping enemies from retreating and keeping my allies alive is more important to me then making a “Kill”. Once i blast my Empower inbetween our zerg? It might only heal 2k damage. Multiply that for multiple players and suddenly the skill is very nice to use. If I feel like dealing some damage? Switch to Scepter, Talisman combo and fire away.

Also setting up Ballista’s and arrow carts in the back gives us a better defensive position and will allow you to still make these “Kills”. Then again I doubt any class will survive long in the middle of an enemy Zerg; Guardian will even outlast most classes if you ever find yourself in the middle of this situation.

It’s WvW not “Every man for himself”. WvW requires teamwork. I consider myself to be the first to step in to battle and the last to get out. If I need to sacrifice myself to let even 1 teammate escape the enemy zerg it’s worth it, that does not mean that I won’t go down fighting however. I will drag every enemy with me and as many I can. Ofcourse I will get away if I can if death can be avoided. I will first make sure that my teammates are safe. Sometimes this means doing a “Gandalf”(Line of Warding) with my staff blocking off Corridors (Shouting “You shall NOT pass!” in my mind)

Once the numbers of the enemies are a bit less I switch to a “hit and run” tactic with my Greatsword using my staff as secondary for the extra speed boost on the “run” part (Heal up, and get back into combat). Using whirling wrath, binding blade and Purging Flames will do tons of damage if you have a couple of enemies around you. Once you’re in an enemy group as a guardian you’ll notice the enemy spreads out as nobody ever wants to take damage (E.g. Survive). Making them spread out makes the enemy more vulnerable as a group and thus let my teammates pick them off 1 by 1 until there are none left.

Due to this strategy I’ve made some great friends in WvW whom will protect me and I will protect them the best I can. The other day we were in the tunnels at the dredges and held off a 50+ Zerg with 10 man! Once our zerg arrived from the back we had a classic “Hammer and Anvil” strategy set up and smashed the enemy zerg into our tiny anvil.

You need to see WvW as a whole. Sorry to say this OP but Guardians are natural leaders. Once people see us jumping into the fray with weapons drawn; teammates will follow and assist(I’m not talking about suicide situations, although I have even survived quite a few of those).

Your post (if anything) will be an example to new Guardians how not to play the class. You are a sad example of a Guardian thinking that “New or different Gear” will make you a better(Skilled) player. I highly suggest you play a different class which might suit your needs and playstyle better. Just reading your post makes me shake my head.

Luckily this post also proves that there are plenty of other Guardians whom do know how to play our class. I look forward to seeing these people in WvW even though we are likely not to be on the same server. It will be an epic battle to be remembered. Fellow Guardians, I tip my helmet to thee

Piken’s Square (EU) Player here.

I have to say that as jerks and other unfriendly folks go I’ve met quite a couple of them. However I have also met quite a few of the opposite.

I myself have been in a guild the day I created my main character thus have always had the luxury to go with my Guild(We’re growing though) as small as it is.

This is why I refuse to go with unfriendly PUGs. I rather fail a dungeon then complete it with what I consider to be “Elitist Jerks”. If you meet the level requirement for the dungeon? Feel free to join and if someone opens their mouth in a nasty manner: I’ll take the friendly folks and start a new group. Why? Because I play the game for fun. Everyone was low level once, some 80s helped me when i was low, it’s my turn to repay the favor.

Back in my WoW days my best friend (Not a gamer) played an instance for the first time. She was warrior(Tank) and I was healer. We were stuck with some “Elitist jerks” whom kept rushing the dungeon. As a new player she had a really hard time tanking and due to that they kicked her out of the party halfway. Of course this caused me to leave as well and they couldn’t complete the dungeon. We looked for a new group and the new PUG was super friendly. They understood she was new and we simply took our time in the beginning. After a little while she(my best friend) kept going faster and faster until in the end she was one of the best tanks I’ve seen. The other members of the PUG were equally impressed. We did 4 more dungeons with ease simply because the party had a good atmosphere and group synergy. We swiftly became friends and I played together with them for about a year afterwards.

Conclusion: There are jerks out there but also the opposite. Just because you’ve had some bad experiences does not mean the good aren’t there. Bad people come and go, the good last a long time.

Find some friends and guild members to play with online, create your own group. Let the Elitist Jerks suffer the consequences of their own actions. In the end nobody will want to group with them except the other elitist jerks .They’ll just wind up having arguments over whom has the biggest kitten anyways and still won’t complete the dungeon.

Us friendly folks are still out there!
If you ever want to chill out and have fun with some friendly folks, my door is always open. (Goes for everyone, not just the OP).

Level or gear requirement? Level 1 and Whites :-P We’ll get you to 80 and geared up in no time!

A concern for fresh player

Personally I hate using a shield. Others will swear by it, but it’s a matter of play-style.

I use a 2 handed sword and Staff by default. I also carry a scepter-Talisman combination for when i need to fight ranged such as in WvW while defending a keep from the walls. I’m not that stupid to stand in the middle of an enemy zerg trying to melee. Sure I’ll deal some damage before going down, but my philosophy is that i can deal more damage if I stay alive.

Most of my survivability comes from:
Utility skills
-Signet of Resolve (Gets rid of conditions and click for healing)
-Hold the line (6 sec health Regen + 4 sec 33% extra defenses)
-Save Yourselves! (Draw conditions from nearby allies to yourself. Gain multiple buffs for 10 seconds and breaks stun and 10 sec health regen)

Traits:
30 pts in Zeal —> Zealous Blade (Greatsword attacks heal you.)
20 pts in Virtues --> Absolute Resolution (increases passive regen on the skill by 25%,

Like I said this is where I get most survivability out of.

It really depends on your play style as this build probably won’t work for a lot of other players. Often I’ll still be tanking with my 2 handed sword due to my high Defense. For me this means dodging a lot, hitting guerrilla style when bosses are distracted and creating distance again when focus is on me too long as certain bosses hit ridiculously hard even with full heavy exotic armor (For those interested I wear Melandru’s set combined with precision+crit dmg+power accessories). This is why a “Hit and run” tactic is most effective. It also gives me some time to heal up with my shouts, signet and passive healing.

Quite interested to see how other Guardians take care of their survivability

Edit: Fixed some typo’s

It's great being a Guardian, isn't it guys?

Another Guardian lover here.

I feel like an old fashioned General leading the charge into an enemy force. First to be in combat, last to get out.

Was in WvW for 4 hours yesterday, not a single death (Must note that i had 3 guildies with me covering my back). Being the only melee fighter of the group, I felt like I was literally “Holding the line!” keeping all the nasties away from my squishier allies.

Big fan of my Guardian, love every minute of it. Jump into the middle of combat, pull the enemies towards me with binding blade and go crazy with my greatsword :P
Add some support utility skills to the mix and it’s great.

Only downside is that I can only use scepter for ranged. Would love to see another ranged option for guardian.

When i play my alts I kind of start comparing it to my guardian automatically. Then again, it took me 2 weeks to decide what class\race combo was gonna be my main. Only class I haven’t tried out is Necro

Dear Toymaker Tixx,

I’ve been a very good Guardian this year. I’ve protected my Friends and Guildmates as every good Guardian should be doing. I’ve also helped out the lower level players with events and thus I would like to be rewarded with something from the following wishlist. (Preferably all but I’m not greedy.)

- Please let me use a ranged weapon. The scepter Talisman combo is just not my thing. Preferably a Bow or Rifle would be nice.
- A free Christmas hat so i can spread the holiday spirit.
- Guild Halls, Housing or Personal Airships would be nice as well.
- Please do not make me dress like catqeer.1954 wants. I will probably throw myself off the Black Citadel.
- Black Dye so i can finally complete my epic colored armor so i can look like a total Bad***
- Karma vendors which also sell exotic accessories
- Mounts so that I can finally move around WvW fast or finish exploration at a decent pace.
- A skill which does cripple so my foes can’t run away any more. Fixing Binding blade to actually pull the enemy backwards every time when hit would also be appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Nerael Valdir,
Commander of the Vigil

Tipping players for help

… It’s true that I help other players simply because I want to; I don’t need paid and often the friendship of the other person is reward enough. Mailing the WP fee is a nice gesture, however.

This.

I’ll help another player if I’m in the area; even if I don’t need the skillpoint, waypoint or whatever. Compensation isn’t required. It’s how you meet people in my opinion. I’m not a big talker in the Map-chat but I do like meeting people in the field talking a bit and teaming up. If you send me money for the waypoint? I’ll just send it right back. I’ll appreciate the gesture but a simple “Thank you” suffices as I’ve been in the same situation myself on multiple occasions and I’m pretty sure other players have been as well at one point.

I met my best in game friend by doing this very thing. We just so happened to be exploring the same map (Orr), met each other randomly on the field. Needed the same Waypoints/POI/Vista’s etc and randomly just followed each other without saying anything for like 30 minutes.

After doing this insane event(Group event, with champion boss) with another random guy we both stood still a moment and we’re like “We make a kitten team don’t we?”. She replied with “Hell yea!”. She wanted to give me something for the trouble and I refused it stating that a simple thank you is enough. We then starting talking, grouped up and finished the map together.

Moral of the story? Be kind to people you meet, compensation isn’t needed in a monetary or item form (in my opinion). You might find a friend this way in the most unlikely places by simply being kind and being yourself.
