Also, the people saying “but gw1 pets!”, gw2 is a completely different game. Pets aren’t a privileged, special unlock-able, or cosmetic in gw2. They are a core class mechanic.
And you get one free with you create your character. And you can get another in a noob zone like Queensdale.
No other class got something brand new in the expansion outside of the elite. It’s a special add on for rangers only and you are complaining about it?
In guild wars 1 there was a pet that was only available after you completed the story of one of the expansions. There are other pets in this game that require you to be a high level in hall of monuments.
For Christ’s sake, some things are supposed to be hard. You are supposed to have to put in effort to get them. That’s what makes showing them off worth it. What’s next, are you going to ask for free legendary weapons?
This desicion is unaceptable,
i am a wvw player i dont want to waste my time in pve watching ppl failing the event again and again and beeing forced to wait and search for a map where an organized party is killing the boss so i can go and get my pet.
Why are u forcing me to play an event over and over again, just to get my pet, this is not nice to your Rangers, and sorry but i am raging right now.
today from 6 am until 2 pm i was trying to get my tiger and e v, but nope no one no map no organisation could do it.
II want to go and play wvw not camp a pve map for an event i dont like to get acces to my class proffesion skills.
No other klass has to do that kind of thing.
Pooor design and a good reason to give a bad review on metacritics
So I guess you are saying you are an immature player. Fair enough.
The point was never that you get your elite specialization immediately. It’s something you progress towards, and get new skills as you explore. This is a game. You are not supposed to automatically win. It is supposed to be a challenge.
But whatever. Everyone is used to participation trophies these days, so I guess everything should be made super easy so no one cries about having to do something hard to complete their character.
Would it make me sound old if I started complaining about kids these days always expecting immediate gratification?
Old? No. Missing the point? Definitely.
Mature players can disagree about game systems without insulting one another, while immature players tend to struggle with the concept. Whatever your views on this particular issue may be, you are better served by focusing on them, and leaving your misconceptions about other players at the door.
Many, many players of all ages have expressed their opinions about Hero Points, Hero Challenges and Elite Specializations, and every player who has done so, whatever their views may be, is doing the right thing by sharing them with ArenaNet.
Unfortunately, some players seem to care less about the game itself than attacking others for having different opinions. Such insularity is toxic to an otherwise exceptional community and something we should all strive to eliminate.
This is something “old timers” tend to learn sooner or later.
Here’s hoping it’s “sooner” for as many of us as possible.
Would it make me sound old if I started complaining about kids these days always expecting immediate gratification?
Wait, how is doing pve hero points grinding but ktraining in eotm is not?
I’d like to know how the exploit works – did ppl save all of their liquid WvW points?
Also -and this more important- when can we expect it to be fixed? Hours? Days? Weeks?
If what RlyOsim said is true – people are using WvW tournament tickets to buy Wexp consumables, then I don’t think it’s an exploit either. I’m not sure how they’re now buying Wexp consumables, but if they are, so be it. They should be able to spend their currency.
But, regardless…
Anet, I implore you to sort this out in short order (as in “days” not weeks or months).
If this turns into the kind of Hall of Monuments BS that was — “oh we’re working on a fix…” and then 3 months later… “it’s almost ready, guys!” Then a month after that… “Oh we finally got it now!” Then you’re going to lose me and I’d guess a lot of other folks. People already DON’T want to GRIND for the elite specs. You take away one of the means by which we can “cash-in” to acquire our elite specs (especially for the WvW community) for an extended period of time, and it’s not going to bode well, I’m afraid. (Just my honest opinion here.)
Godspeed!
We asked for:
-Survavibility
-Support
-Mobility
-StabilityWE GET NOTHING OF ALL THAT THINGS. NOTHING!!!
We only obtain a little of Mobility but they already say: “Reapers may not be light on their feet…” and that mean that we’ll not able to flee from any dangerous situation, just like we actually are!!!
WHY THERE’S NO ONE THAT LISTEN TO US?
I would be very happy just with the bold ones. Necro is not a support buff class, if you are looking for that better play ele or guard.
But mobility (by teleport please), Survavibility and Stability (defiance bar please) it is basic to make this class usable. Right now in Silverwastes you can only see:
-Rangers because of the range LB. In SW the mobs moves too fast to follow.
- Guards, warriors and eles.
Some thiefs.
And that’s all. And if it wouldnt because of some mobs that does not allow them to get close even the ranger would be missing.I don’t pretend to be a support class, but anyway Every songle class can give boons to it’s allies, we are the only one that can’t.
The Thief can give might, fury and swiftness to it’s allies when he steal, and we can’t give a little Might to our allies?I don’t pretend to become a support class (but in GW1 there’s a support build for necro), I only want to make it able to give that 3-4 stack of might to allies and blast a ele/warrior firefield with a finisher to stack might with the others.
Nothing more than that give a little help to others with might or stack.Because every class can stack vulnerability. warrior, ele, ranger, also guardians. We can do better, but we’re not the best choice because if you have 2 warriors you can obtain easy a permanent 25 stack of vulnerability on the enemy, might, firefield and the warrior give very high damage and have very good survavibility.
Why can’t we give a little might or have a little blast finisher?
Uh, well necros give protection. Try playing something other than minion master.
and if I wanted to support my group, I wouldn’t be playing my Necro, I’d be playing my Guardian or Elementalist.
And as long as this is the case, Necro will not be wanted in dungeons.
What dungeon runners even care what profession joins up? I’ve yet to see a single lfg complain about any profession that joined. Whatever elitist mentality these players (you claim to refuse Necros) have isn’t a healthy one that promotes the fun nature of games like this. “We must run this dungeon 15.2 seconds faster than the last time.”
Ok no, that’s not the overwhelming majority of players definition of fun. Then you, fine sir, haven’t played Necro a lot. At least outside of maybe Ascalon Catacombs. Sure, up to CoF you usually find half “no necro” groups and half that don’t give a kitten, but try finding a group for Arah with randoms(and actually complete it) as a Necromancer. It took me like 6 hours or more, because there half is “selling dungeon path”, and another 40% is “only meta exp 5k AP +!!!!111!!1” , or “no necro”, or “gearcheck only meta”, or “zerker only!”, or simply joina group that doesn’T state these things and gets instantly kicked.
The only reason i managed to get a run done, was because of an extremely chilled guardian and ele duo that made a full clear of path 1. Meaning killing every single mob in the entire dungeon, instead of cornerstacking and skipping 80% of the run.
If you can’t finish arah with a necro, that sounds like a personal problem. I’m a casual dungeon runner and I’ve finished it with my micro plenty of times.
Necros today bring group support. Traited wells grant protection, and they have quite a bit that cleanse conditions. You don’t have to run minion builds, you know.
What you mean is that they bring nothing for might stacking.
Wow, how ragey. It’s clearly obvious that this isn’t intended.
This is a VERY specific change. I don’t see how them kittening up chat and other things, would affect conditional damage from fire. Why fire? What line of code would accidentally do this?
This doesn’t seem like an “oops” to me. It’s way too specific.
I take it you have never done any sort of programming. I have seen many “very specific” bugs in my life. Software is often very complex, with very complex interactions. And there are many cases where it takes a complex path for a bug to be realized.
At the same time these shouts have been “introduced” my beloved Job-o-Tron (?) backpack became silent. These bugs may be related in some way…no more “Boing” or “Faster Faster”….instead random shouts from anywhere…makes me sad!
I’m getting worried my grawl impression isn’t improving as much as it should be.
I was hoping one advantage to the map shouts bug is that everyone would be able to hear job o tron no matter where they are on the map, but it seems that is not the case.
(and what the hell is an expected bug anyway?)
That’s right, there’s not expected bugs (there shouldn’t be at least). Let’s put it like predictable bug.
There are expected features though. Like typing in guild chat should send the message to other members of your guild. That is what you build your test suite on top of. Your features, not your bugs. And deviations from those features should be caught by a robust regression suite.
First time logging in the loading screen hung.
Job o tron backpack won’t say anything
:D setting to invisible crashed my game.
This happened to me as well.
It seems some players doesn’t understand properly how a development cycle works. Automated testing doesn’t help so much either, they just test for specific stuff and unexpected stuff can happen when system goes live (something that the automated test didn’t expect).
Yes, I understand how development cycles work. I have over a decade of experience as a software engineer. No, automated regression tests, when properly done, are not incapable of catching unexpected bugs. I have personally caught many unexpected bugs with automated regression tests (and what the hell is an expected bug anyway?).
Yes, they are not perfect and some bugs do sneak through. No, that doesn’t mean a build that is particularly buggy should be considered acceptable.
Yes this is just a game. No, that doesn’t mean they don’t need to worry about quality, especially if they are planning an expansion pack in the near future they are expecting people to pay for.
Total crap. Do you think for every patch they test every single world boss every time? If there were no changes to Teq, they wouldn’t have tested Teq. They are testing the things they change. A bug that creeps into one specific boss is impossible to track down unless they’re specifically testing for it.
Annoying sure. It’s annoying. But expecting every piece of older content to be tested every time there’s a patch…that’s not realistic.
This is where you’re wrong. Any “major” update that they push out, they test everything with the game. This is standard regression testing with automation. What you need to understand is that when the term “tested” is used, it does not entirely involve a QA person testing an aspect of the game. Automated testing is done for the vast majority of software, including video games. QA almost always does their manual testing on new feature sets or changed features. For the case of Teq, nothing has changed so they will utilize automated test scripts for that and if they don’t “fail” then it’s a “pass”.
Now who knows what type of automation they use to test this but these things do get tested with every update. I speak from experience and as a current dev manager in healthcare.
Actually I’m sure this isn’t true. They couldn’t possibly test EVERYTHING in the game every time a patch comes out. Patches used to come out every 2 weeks. You think they test EVERYTHING in the game every two weeks. Why would you believe that.
It probably takes long enough just to test the new stuff.
But the Teq thing particularly is problematic. You can’t beat it with 5 people. You need what, 50-60 testers minimum to get to the point where it bugged?
This isn’t reasonable to expect and I’m pretty sure others who program will tell you the same thing.
No, automated tests don’t need any testers to actually run them. Thats what it means for a test to be automated. They are a very common practice in software development shops, and there is usually quite a bit of technology built up around it.
Now automated regression tests won’t catch every single thing. But the high number of regressions in this particular patch makes me suspect their regression testing process.
Its a bug. — Therefor its temporary. — Totally acceptable.
No, it’s not.
They delayed this update a week and still pushed it out wayyyyyyy too early. Rushing updates is just dumb.
If it wasn’t enough time to at least test to make sure something as basic as chat bubbles/down state not being green, random male charr noises coming from my human female character, and the plethora of other problems released this patch then it’s pretty obvious they’re understaffed. Tequatl is no exception to this and OP has every reason to be uptight about it.
You sound real entitled to this huh? well, sorry bud. you aint a dev, so bugger off.
So I am a developer, and I can tell you this update seems much buggier that it should have been.
Indeed it was buggy, but considering the amount of content Anet has for a $60 game. this in MY opinion can be ignored, if you are a dev. then you would know that not everything can always come out properly ready, as in things will always have one bug or another. nothing is a “Perfect” patch.
No, nothing is perfect, and certainly not most software. However, there have been a lot of regressions in this patch. Way more than I would personally be comfortable with.

All it fixed was (according to the release notes) a server crash and an issue with viewing non-profession armor and weapons from vendors. Other things I’ve personally seen:
- The first time I started it hung on the loading screen
- Guild chat was initially broke
- I was told to go invisible to fix guild chat. That caused my client to crash
- I hear everyone’s shouts/talking things as if they are right next to me, even when I’m all alone. Or at least I think I do. I’m not going crazy. Shut up.
- A notable exception to the above, I haven’t heard a peep out of my job-o-tron backpack.
- First person view is nice and all, but sometimes gear like my flamethrower kit blocks it. I’ve also heard aegis shields get in the way (thats of course a minor issue with the new content, not a regression).
Which skin you going with? Dhuumseal for me.
My necro has already gotten his Chiroptophobia skin.
