map select 1 v 7...

Night.2034

Troll? that’s an unfair assumption. Some of us pick the less popular maps from time to time for variety, or if it’s what we feel like playing.

I’ll take anything over a third consecutive Battle of Kyhlo match (which has happened).

The real problem with the current system is not knowing which maps you’re queueing for in advance.

I agree. After 3 Kylho, 5 Legacy, 2 Spirit Watch and 2 Temples, even though I prefer Kylho and Legacy, it’s refreshing to play a Courtyard or a Skyhammer. I sometimes pick those to do something else, because always doing the same thing on the same map is boring (btw bring more pvp maps ! mawrrrrrrrr !).
And there is an easy solution for “the real problem” (not knowing for what map you’re queuing), it’s a way to save your builds (like templates in GW1). So whatever the map will be, you’ll be ready for it anyway, so bring on the templates !

Concerning the current system, it’s perfect, it’s like Sorel said earlier : “each map as a probability of occurrence exactly proportional to how much the players love it. We’re part of the majority here, but this systems preserves the interests of the minority that likes odd maps, and Anet did a great job with this system as it is.”
Good job !

Sad truth of playing the ingame instruments

in Audio

Night.2034

I’d like to add my ideas about instruments and macros.

I don’t use instruments, because I’m really too bad to play a song ( :’[ ). But if I had one, I would be happy to be able to use macros with it, cause I know that without macros I would not be able to do anything good with the instrument I bought.

In my opinion, people saying “He’s using macro, he’s cheating” don’t take this into consideration. Some just can’t play music as easily as you can, don’t be silly and let them play music, even if they don’t play music like you.

That’s why I appreciated it when Cody said this :

For some, the barrier between having an instrument and making music is overly daunting, and there are other methods out there to simply play a song.

Respect the others and how they are playing music, even if they take the “easy way”, and remember what Gaile said : people using macros have a limited playlist, you don’t.

Then, approximately 2 760 000 foils were given !
There are 1000 halloween skins waiting for a master.
So for each foil given, you have 1 chance out of 2 760 to win ! That’s not so bad, if we compare to other gamble games.
But if you are looking for A skin (that perfect ghastly grinning shield for example), then you juste have :
1 chance out of 27 600 to get it.
That’s still hard for such a beautiful skin

Yay for maths.

Except the odds are much worse than that. You don’t take into consideration that you could buy foil in the gem store. I wouldn’t be surprised if the number of foils entered were closer to 4,000,000.

This is starting to feel like Vegas.

True this ! But it’s pretty hard to determine the exact number of foils bought in gemstore.
Some people in this topic are talking of hundred, thousands of foils they put, I guess they bought them. You may not be far from reality with 4 millions, but I think there were fewer of them. I exagerated my calculations, taking the worst scenario. In fact, not all the ToT bags were consumed, and some people couldn’t put their foils to the skritt since the update came early.
Whatever : good luck to get a skin !

Assuming 138 millions of ToT bags have been looted (stated by Anet on twitter on 31/11, so there are more of them that have been looted since then).
Assuming the shiny foil candy wrapper drop rate is about 0.02 per bag. ( according to a drop rate research on the wiki : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trick-or-Treat_Bag/research )
Considering that all the ToT bags looted have been consumed (that is NOT true).
Considering all the foils are given to the skritt …
Then, approximately 2 760 000 foils were given !

Narrative Lessons From 15 Months of Scarlet

in Living World

Night.2034

Shriketalon.1937 : Seriously, well done ! This is so perfect and funny. I aggree with almost everything you wrote ! This is a very complete feedback on the 15 months on Living Story we had.

Bobby Stein : In my opinion, here are the top three things you should focus on :

1) The #10 of Shriketalon, which is : to concentrate on things which are really relevant : there are a lot to do in GW2 story : we want to hear more about the 5 other dragons ! Of course, the awakening of one of them is very important, but it doesn’t justify 15 months of Living Story. To give an idea of what we expect : in 12 months, we should actually kill this dragon (or he should kill us if we fail :p).
As Shriketalon stated : there are also the fate of Cantha and Elona and lots of other mysteries which are lying in the shadow. You just have to bend down and pick some random story, you made the story of GW so full and interesting that there are really a lot of things really good you could make with it !
Furthermore, we want to meet and learn more about races you introduced but didn’t full developped (for example : Largos, Kodan, Tengu, and you could do lots of things fabulous with the races forced to quit the underground by Primordius).

We know you can’t do everything in the list before, but just 50% of the dragons (and Cantha) would satisfy us ! ^^

2) The characters (#3,4,5) : the “bad” side can’t be represented by only one evil character. You introduced Mai Trin and Horrik, Slick, Sparki, but no one of them had a real role in Scarlet’s plans : there are all defeated and defeated again. Even for a genius like Scarlet, it’s hard to believe she did everything by herself. She had lieutenants who helped her in order to accomplish her plan, but they are not well described in the game : they die/lose/disappear as quickly as they appeared. THE evil boss has strong evil lieutenants. They also deserve to be well developped !
The hero will have a better role in the Living Story : he defeated each of the ennemy lieutenants to reach the final boss and kill him. This is also something important : you need to place the hero at the center of the story. OK, Trahearne did this, Kiel did this … But we don’t care ! We want to be the hero (cause we deserve it ! ^^).
For example : at the end of GW Factions, “people from all around Cantha gather and line the Divine Path to pay their respects and offer their thanks to the new heroes of Cantha” (line from GW Wiki), I never felt so proud (in a game). We want to live the same thing, to realise we really have accomplished a long long way to arrive to this moment.

3) The #1 of Shriketalon : we have to love the Living Story for what it is, not for what it will be. Don’t tell us : “Oh, hold on hold on, there will be a twist, we are sure you’ll like it !”. Come on, there’s no surprise anymore ! Just give us the twist when we don’t expect it, and we will suddenly like the Living Story even more because we didn’t expect “that” to happen like “this”.

Thanks for reading (and sorry for bad english), keep the good work !

Got this quest bugged too. Looks like after a year this quest is still very buggy !
Objective : “Retrieve the second research team.”
Can’t go in the cave, the crates are blocking it (and Agent Zrii is … not here to destroy them !). I looked for her, but seems like she disappeared :c
Guess I need to do it again from the beginning …
(Note : according to the wiki, it may be because Zrii died before Trahearne’s speech)
Reported it.

The Cantha Thread [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Night.2034

Hi !
I don’t know exactly where the thread led to, maybe the dev already decided to create a Canthan part in GW2 (or maybe not) but I need to add my opinon. I apologise for my english which is not perfect, it’s not my first language.
I don’t want this post to be another tear for Cantha, but I really think you should create a great canthan part in GW2. The atmosphere of GW Factions was amazing and every part of it was interesting (Shing Jea Island, Echovald Forest, Jade Sea and even the immense city of Kaineng were fabulous). You created an entire world with it’s own history and I think it would be sad to forget and throw it away. Of course, the GW2 canthan part can’t look like the GW one, 200 years has gone, but it’s possible to make a new Cantha, with the same asian influences and some little souvenir from the old one. Moreover, I’m sure lots of people would be delighted to remember the good old days and/or discover another world with a completely different culture than the Tyrian one. You’d lose something taking the decision to ignore Cantha, so please don’t !
Also, we don’t want a tiny and ridiculous content from Living World related to Cantha. Cantha deserves MORE !

This is only one message but if everybody do the same, maybe Arenanet will understand
