I want to officially file a complaint for DAY CAPPERS and NA PRIMETIME PLAYERS
I play from Isle of Janthir.. we are an International Server. Our weakest link is an 11 hour dead zone from noon to 11PM EST
How bad is it? Until this week.. we have handed over a +85 Deficit EVERY RESET
yep. Every reset we’re staring down a +85 deficit. We keep winning, sure. We’re the best of the “Tier 2” servers. To move up to Denravi, you have to beat Isle of Janthir
but just a change in perspective.. to those of you complaining of night capping
try playing during NA primetime when your server is weakest, then come talk to me
Sorry your server has NA players but they just simply get outplayed by the top servers. I’ve been playing IoJ all week on FA and even in NA primetime IoJ controls most of the map. Never once saw a shortage of IoJ players and it’s deffinately not dead.
Matt I’m glad someone acknowledged this however I think you guys don’t see the main problem. The community doesn’t have a problem with the people on at night because it’s not convenient for them to play in the day or in peak hours etc. Players playing within their respective timezone would be somewhat evenly spaced out between servers in that particular timzone.
The issue is when you have large populations from another part of the world playing on servers on other timezones. These people are playing in their primetime, however the main population of the server they are playing on is in their dead time. The result is obviously the entire map being wiped to 1 color and the other servers wake up to a 50-100k deficit. Now those servers who lost everything have to attempt to re-take objects at a disadvantage since the strong “night” presence server has 3 orbs and their popluation in that timezone is now even on all fronts so its a struggle to just get out of the spawn sometimes.
It’s too late now but I wish you guys would have region locked WvW and opened some servers in other parts of the world. There’s just not enough overseas players to go around for all the servers to give it more competition.
The main problem I have with it is aside from the top few servers, the match for the week is determined in only 2 days. It becomes un-fun to log on to a map my server owns everything on and it’s also un-fun to log on to a map I own nothing of. People play games to have fun.
Except servers have been bumped up and down for the past month and here we are still at the same problem.
What exactly is the problem? If you win the first half of the day, and the other guy wins the 2nd half of the day, then you two are effectively equally good, so you keep getting matched up against each other.
lololol If this is how you think WvW currently works then there’s no point in even discussing the issue with you.
Losing is okay. You’ll get bumped down and fight against other undermanned servers.
The well organized, well manned servers will go up and fight each other.
In the end, everything works out. What are you complaining about?
If your server doesn’t have enough men to fight 24/7, why should your server deserve to win against servers that DO have men to fight 24/7?
Except servers have been bumped up and down for the past month and here we are still at the same problem.
Yes this is another “night capping” thread. The most common response I see people saying to help the issue is to “recruit late night guilds.”
Where are people supposed to recruit these late nights guilds if people from all kinds of servers are complaining about the same thing? It seems like only a few servers actually have these “late night guilds.” If a late night guild moves servers all that did is lessen their old server’s late night presence and increase yours. However at the end of the day that leaves us at the same place except now the old server who lost their late night guilds is in the same spot as the other server was.
There’s just not enough late night people to go around evenly.
Right now it’s kind of nice that a few commanders can be on a map and allow pugs to have more coordination to follow them, but what is WvW going to be like once more and more people obtain commander? A lot of people play gw2 just for WvW and I think more people are going to be buying these. Eventually the maps are going to have 20+ commanders running around and I think this is just going to cause more disorganization. Is there a limit to how many commanders are allowed on the map?
I am against Geographical Segregation. One of the best parts about GW is how global it is.
I know what you mean like… I meet so many great Ausies while im sleeping.
The only solution to these major population imbalances is by region locking, give Oceanic players their own few servers, and match them vs Asia servers once those are up. This would benefit 98% of people.
I would imagine night time populations would even out since there wouldn’t be a mass amount of people from another part of the world congregating to the same servers. Sure there may be a few small night guilds, but Joe the Plumber’s night time guild in Minneapolis, MN or wherever isn’t going to be causing landslide point differentials.
Oceanic people may have more in common with NA, however you can’t talk to the opposing servers in WvW so why would it matter.
I’m not saying that it should last until the scores are completely even, but just to a point where the other servers feel like they actually have a chance at making a comeback. The way it is now it feels pointless for the losing servers to even try since the dominant server is so far ahead and there’s no incentive to play other than server pride.
I think an interesting idea to help prevent these 100K+ blowout games would be to create a buff for losing teams based on how far behind they are. The farther behind in points they become, the stronger their character becomes on that server.
This would only be activated after a certain distance of total score would occur. I’m not sure what the sweet spot would but imagine if server A is at 150k pts and server B and C are at 50k pts then server B and C characters would have increased stats until the scoring reaches the sweet spot again and they become normal.
With this implemented it would make the game more dynamic and interesting for all sides of the battlefield. If a server is able to cap 100% of the map during the night and rack up points the other servers will have an easier time re-taking the map. People logging on to a 100% owned map is not fun for either side of the fight.
This effect would allow for comebacks. League of Legends currently does this however they do it for experience. If one team significantly falls behind in level they gain greater amounts of experience which allows them to have a chance at a comeback.
Interested in hearing your thoughts.
Often times when I cursor over a friend in my friend’s list tab it will display the incorrect server they are on.
Why don’t they just region lock then and match oceanic with the asians? You can’t talk to the other servers anyways so language isn’t an issue.
Somebody hire me I just saved wvw
Are you just completely failing to understand the point of WvW?
It is a 24/7 Week Long Battle. If your server cannot field players during certain hours, but the opponent can, then they are going to win. Over time, the match making will get everyone matched against servers that have similar hours and similar populations, but that will take time.
Also, complaining about being matched against an Oceanic/Asian server and claiming that they have an unfair advantage is sort of obtuse, because either they have the same problem you do(when they go to sleep the other servers become active) or they are simply playing more/better than you and therefore deserve to be winning.
Also, the fact that player population matters in WvW is not a design flaw. It is the reality of having an entire World playing for a team and playing against other Worlds with their own teams. If a World manages to get more players and better players, they are simply a better world at WvW.
Do you even follow WvW? The blowouts are occurring in all ranking tiers from the best servers to the lowest servers. The matchmaking won’t fix it. With only 24 servers there’s not many options on who to match people with. You may get one good match now and then but you won’t vs those same servers again so now you play in 3 blowout matches after it. It doesn’t matter if you’re on the winning or losing side I don’t find a blowout fun. There is literally no incentive to play for points after the first day other than for the gameplay itself. If all we are doing is playing for the gameplay then why don’t we just delete score and all just play for fun?
I said oceanic should play with Asia because they are in similar time zones. No they don’t have the same problem Oceanics don’t log on to a 100% capped map like NA players do or like Euro players do with NA playing on their servers.
With all due respect to Oceanic-based players, ArenaNet will write you off if they had to to save the playability of WvW.
I hope it doesn’t come to that, but if that is what they need to do to save their customer based in North American and Europe they’ll do it.
It’s called capitalism.
You really think that they would write off their asian and oceanic playerbase? Considering that asian and oceanic numbers combined probably equate to nearly just as much as NA considering the high population of gamers in korea, japan, china etc…
Why don’t they just region lock then and match oceanic with the asians? You can’t talk to the other servers anyways so language isn’t an issue.
Somebody hire me I just saved wvw
So what makes you think that NA timezone is so superior and deserving it should have the only access to wvwvw and not the rest of the world?
Do you think Oceanic/asian players haven’t been asking for our own dedicated server since pre-release?
Well we have… and we didn’t get it, so basically we HAVE to play on NA servers and we don’t get a choice.
So therefore, NA people need to deal with it as you don’t get a choice either.
It is how it is…So what makes you think that is is a NA timezone only problem? This problem is happening at NA and EURO. You can’t deny something needs to happen to balance the gameplay out. Do Oceanic players honestly enjoy running around capping an entire map with low resistance? I know I wouldn’t enjoy that at all. Every match up having a landslide isn’t really fun. Fun matchups are close ones and you feel like you’re fighting for something. Me logging onto a landslide every matchup isn’t fun. This isn’t my job it’s my gateway to fun. If I’m not having fun I’ll have little desire to play it. I’m all for giving Oceanics their own servers and having them match vs Asians, but that won’t fix the problem.
But is the scoreboard really at the end of the day effecting the fun of your pvp experience? or are you just hung up on trying to win at fantasy video gaming?
I want to win a match that was close and feel like I actually earned the win. My server is winning right now and it’s a complete blowout if you actually read my initial post. So no I’m not “trying” to win. I don’t even have to try to win since my server is up over 100k. However if I was on the other side losing by 100k and it being completely out of my control would also not be fun. The current state of WvW is not fun no matter what side of it that I’m on hence why I’m posting about this problem on an internet forum….
Edit: also want to add the scoreboard isn’t the only thing affecting my fun with WvW
Thanks.

IMO give them some time to work on things. Though I gotta say the free transfers was a silly idea.
Simple fact of the matter is that loot chasers are NEVER going to like WvW as putting in loot to chase just leads to stupid player behaviours (look at WAR). As Arenanet already have your money I dont think they mind if you go either.
Winning should not have a reward. its jsut for the pride. Perhaps capping a tower or castle when your server is down and out should give you a mystic coin or two.
Last point. If they add rewards to WvW people will just complain they take too long to get. A WvW glory rank would be sweet though.
I don’t think they should add loot rewards. They should do something in the line of recognizing individuals or guilds. Quick idea that just took me 5 seconds to come up with and I’m sure their team could think of more:
Have the game recognize when two guilds are going toe to toe. One guild sweeps another. Obtains the victory by a certain number of one guild finishing the other guild downed players. Let both servers know this. Go a step forward and throw in some type of ladder or ranking. “Clan Anet” just happens to completely dominate every guild they run into in WvW. Wow I’m proud to be part of “Clan Anet” every sever in NA knows us. Now they also just made guild wars have more actualy “guild wars”.
There’s a lot of stuff they can do without being a piece of gear.
Its so sad that a lot of Americans believe they are the centre of the world when they play an MMO.
Another point lost for faith in humanity
ROFL ya because Americans are the only servers that have a landslide winner in every single matchup. I guess you don’t read the threads about Europeans complaining about NA players dominating their nights as well. Would you enjoy watching any football/soccer/baseball/cricket/whatever if every game was 200-20? Or how about if you were a player if any of those sports and it was your full team vs 2 people. That just isn’t fun it doesn’t matter what side of it you are on. I don’t know how you can argue as it being an American ignorance problem lol it just makes you look ignorant.
So what makes you think that NA timezone is so superior and deserving it should have the only access to wvwvw and not the rest of the world?

In the current state of the game there will never be balance and will never end in a close match-up. Are there any matches out there where the servers are pretty equal in points? I play on Fort Aspenwood which is a “mid tier” server and yet our points are way beyond the other two servers combined. I wake up in the morning and we own the entire map. However this seems to be happening at every match-up from the top tiers to the bottom tiers. Next weeks matches will be the same story except a different server will own the entire map every night. While it seems unfair to block out certain parts of the world from playing on a server something really needs to be done to keep the longevity of the game going.
I also think there needs to be more incentive for PvP oriented players in WvW other than enjoyment of the gameplay. I love the gameplay don’t get me wrong, but the gameplay alone won’t keep people playing for long periods of time. Starcraft 2 had a huge player base at release but Blizzard never expanded on the other features. Where was the clan support, auto tourneys in like in war3, global leaderboards, etc? The player base of sc2 fell flat in short time. While this isn’t sc2 it could learn from a similar mistake that assuming gameplay alone keep people playing for a long time.
Currently the reward for winning is just PvE buffs and sever pride. Being a PvP player I could really care less about what PvE buffs I get. Sure I also can passively get more health and such but if the other servers are receiving this too then it’s not really a buff for PvP and only for PvE. I’m not even sure I want my server to be a winning server with the ques. All that would mean is more people transferring to my server to win and increase my wait time to enjoy WvW.
I was disappointed in Mike’s current state of the WvW article today as it didn’t really address anything aside from how to avoid a shorter que. (transfer to a lower pop server) I think the larger issues are what I stated above. WvW’s state is fine for someone who wants to casually enter a WvW now and then. For the people who primary want to WvW and the WvW guilds I think there needs to be more to look forward to than some PvE buff and my server moving up a spot. Just a few quick ideas would be better recognition for extraordinary players and guilds. If people could make a name for themselves they would have more incentive to play than for their server.
I would love to hear other people’s thoughts and if they are similar to mine. I apologize if this post came off as an unorganized ‘dear diary’ rant. I had a few beers and just wanted to shout to the world how I feel about WvW.
Thanks for the read and feel free to post your thoughts.
The problem is we’re not getting pops according to when we que. It’s not like you grab a ticket and they call your number in order… there are other factors here. There is some sort of “autobalance” that effects where you are placed in the que based on class and natural level.
There is no exact formula detailed on how they place people in the que, but people are NOT being placed in a linear order from when they qued. Adding a visible que display won’t work unless Arenanet changes the way they place players in the que.
How do you know this? If this is the case then they should just change it to a single file line and show your time. It seems pretty discriminatory to me. I don’t see why Joe the Plumber should have a shorter que time than me simply because he plays a norn mesmer.
Even if it is like though they can still figure it out. Even if there is some madness to it the computer still has order to it. It’s not just randomly picking people hopefully. They could have it display to each person based on their character how long estimated they have to wait.
(edited by No RefunD.4630)
I also would like to point out if you were to publish the average que time for each map it would improve everybody’s experience with ques. You could simply add it to the drop down box of the worlds when you hit “B”. Eternal Battlegrounds could show a que time of 45 minutes however a borderlands could be a 5 minute que. Currently nobody has any clue which zones have the longer que. If we knew the average times people could get into a map more quickly.
And how do you imagine that would be calculated? How would they know when someone will leave or not?
How is every other game with a que able to do this? If not show a time at least it would be nice to show your position so you can estimate if it will come soon.
I’m curious as to why WvW doesn’t give an average time remaining or position in que? It’s utterly frustrating not knowing this information. Due to a full time job I have limited hours I can play and this is during prime time. I’d like to know around when I’ll get in so I don’t have to sit there staring at it forever hoping I don’t miss my que pop up. God help me that I don’t go to the bathroom and miss it popping only to come back thinking nothing happened and now I’m at the bottom of the que. Maybe one day it would be 15 minutes, but the next it will be an hour and not worth the wait. It would also be easier for guilds to coordinate a time to head to a zone if they knew the average wait and can pre-plan when to que.

The card also sits right in between two zotac GTX 560 AMPs so I was wondering if it could also be a heat problem. Maybe the two graphics cards are heating it to a point where it’s bugging out.

This is a desktop. I also don’t think its the router since other computers and my phone won’t lose connection.

Starting today I’ve been having problems with my internet cutting out and it only happens in WvWvW after 5 minutes of being in the zone. My wireless connection bars will just turn into an X and not even view networks. I have to restart my computer to fix it. This has only been occurring in WvW. The card is a linksys and it says I have up to date drivers.
