What about implementing something somewhat similar to Heroes from the first game, but for WvW?
I can only guess when it comes to technical limitations, but if I am commanding late oceanic time, there’s 30 or so (example) Kaineng and literally 3 Borlis around to defend against that, it would be nice to have 27 additional ‘anonymous hero’ NPCs spawn and come to my tag. That way, the matchups would always be even. The server system wouldn’t have to be changed at all. It would eliminate nightcapping.
In the day when, say, Gate of Madness is crushing them, I’m sure they would also appreciate bots to fight the GoM zerg with.
The maps already count how many people are on them to assign the Outnumbered buff or calculate queues.

The reason we stay in the low tiers is because we do not want to transfer to higher ones.
Server merges are an attempt to force us, against our will, to transfer to Tier 1. The real issue here is between those who believe in freedom and those who disregard it.
I like my T7 server just fine. No victory can ever be sweeter than one won against enemies that outnumber you a hundred to one.
Go to EotM if you want merged servers. Transfer to Gold League if you can’t stomach being outnumbered. And do not dare try to take away our sacred liberties.

THE mighty and all-seeing Borlis Authorities demand your immediate defection to BORLIS PASS at once! Our beloved Authorities, in their infinite compassion and wisdom, have decreed that yet more NA prime roamers and guilds are highly valuable to the ongoing campaign of extermination against the stain of barbarians and lesser beings that infest the world. Your kind and loving Borlis Pass overlords and future masters demand blood!
We seek to completely queue up NA time. EU roamers are also hereby compelled to join our glorious cause as well (on pain of threatenings). Oceanic and SEA coverage are not in demand right now. Yea, for we Borlisians stand valiantly and proudly for our Homeland! And as we laugh at our inferiors till they are broken, cowering and bowing down before Borlis whom All will in time come to worship and love, we struggle ever onward toward the final victory, toward the Liberation of all of Tyria!
Defect to Borlis Pass. We’ll take good care of you.

A small percentage these days indeed. Ever since I became one of the few non-transfers who have regularly cast eyes outside our particular realm, I have been starting to get the feeling that the residents of the Pass live in some kind of highly insular bubble of world identity.
For instance, we have a phenomenon among some of our transfers of intense nostalgia for the glory days of the Pass, and a good part of borlis.org’s upkeep is paid for by those who do not at present reside in BP any more. I used to think this was normal in the majority of enemy lands as well — before I started spying outside the realm and seeing for myself that this was not the case.
It is a disconcerting feeling, both in the sense of an unaccountable discovery and in the sense of the overall health of the Mist War’s potential turnout rates, when nearly all the powerful and intimidating foes you always feared and hated turn out to be held up mainly by inertia and little else these days.

Somehow… I feel as if those who are saying “the number of servers needs to be reduced” are just looking for a way to draft numbers into T2/T3 (where server identities are generally very weak), in disregard of what we may feel and want elsewhere. If we actually wanted to go to more populated realms, we would simply have purchased transfers to those a long time ago.
Server loyalty is alive and well in at least three servers I have measured: Yak’s Bend was recently accused by someone I was conversing with in Malchor’s Leap of having “too many zealots” and how “BP is almost as bad as they are”. The Northern Shiverpeaks are almost always the first to respond with slogans like “NSP pride!” when I would demand transfers to the Pass for the whole map to hear.

I, the feared Avenger of the Pass, most definitely concur.
One of the reasons I chose to wage war on behalf of the realm that I did is because I WANT a massively outnumbered fight. Pride in the land that I hail from is part of it, but being in a low tier, struggling valiantly against the odds instead of just having easy victories handed to you — that is where the adventure is. That is where the glory of the Mist War lies.
Why should I have to ally with an evil dominion like Ehmry Bay or Stormbluff Isle?

Perhaps the Janthirite is right.
I’m thinking, however… bandwagoning to the lowest tier would at least create a better distribution of stacking than everyone packing into the highest two tiers of the Mists. Ordinarily, if there are transfers, they happen slowly and almost always go only up, leading to consistently uneven wars. Yet if the realms of the lower tiers get people stacking on them as well, it would shift the distribution of military might more frequently and encourage an increase in overall turnout in the ongoing Mist Wars in general.

I intend to remain in Borlis Pass to the absolute end, regardless of whether we are victorious or being driven into the lowest tiers of the realm of Torment.
When large guilds or swarms of people transfer to another realm of their own volition, it behaves in effect like a part of that home world merging into another, without adversely affecting those of us who enjoy outnumbered fights and are willing to stand steadfast even in a losing war. Victory is sweet indeed if it is attained by our own efforts. Defeat is just a part of the challenge.
It would only cause damage and be contrary to the spirit of free choice if the home worlds — unwilling along with the willing — were forced to live together and lose the loyalties and team that they love.
