I’ve noticed in my year of playing that every time “balancing” comes into play it is never supported by the videos you see on youtube from elite players or guilds, what the general playerbase feels, or even often times what the basic theoretical math has to say about things. It feels as though the devs look at a chart, say “there’s not enough of this” and nerf/buff that class in comparison to only itself. So with that having been said, here’s a few things I feel would actually help out balancing:
1) implement a voting system for changes, and don’t allow reversal of the change to be an option. Let’s be honest, buffing one weapons auto attack isn’t your ONLY idea when balancing, it’s the one you picked. Let the playerbase decide with you instead. Maybe they’d prefer one of your other options.
2) Allow comprehensive numbers from your charts, or even some form of data as to why the change is occurring. None of this “it’s too strong” “not used enough” fluff wording. I’m pretty sure the playerbase would be a lot more supportive in changes if they knew how OP some things actually were or how bad some were. and use cross-profession data to support any sort of DPS or healing claim so you don’t throw them off the meta.
3)Acknowledge or link some videos that back up the claim if possible. If someone is posting a video of your game it means they highly support it, and there’s no harm in throwing a little love back while making a point about a change (throw on a disclaimer even, like “they aren’t employed by ANet”).
4)To prevent people from picking changes that’d make their favorite class too OP, make some sort of training golem room where people (who don’t even have that class) can actually experience the changes before they occur. Maybe even make it a real dungeon that gives you like a gold a run, and make the entire team vote on the usefulness of the class. Make some rooms identical and make the changes not appear in one, and some they appear. This would allow you to actually grab data from the changes in real time from large quantities of teams, and allow players to give input on if the change is necessary or warranted or even useful.
Anyway, these are my ideas. If anyone else has their own throw it in the forum, and maybe the Devs will take at least one or two into account (hopefully). Obviously I love this game, it’s like a relaxing ride. I just wish they’d pick some roads that weren’t so bumpy, and it’d be nice if I could offer feedback to avoid that.

I think I can speak for most, if not all, Necromancers that recently took a hit. Where are Necromancers suppose to fit in the meta anymore? They have next to no team utility. Their linear DPS has always been highly outranked by thieves, and now, with the recent changes, any profession can rival or surpass them. Their AoE DPS is VASTLY outmatched by Elementalists. They’re one of the game’s most immobile classes (other than reaper shroud 2, but you try using that in PVP to catch ANY other class and see how close you get). Oh, and they don’t even make good tanks, because they have no blocks, invulnerability, or anything other than a shroud that immediately blows off if a boss looks in your direction.
The only place I’d really even take my Necromancer anymore is Fractals, which is only 3 dungeons a day, and even then I get this aching feeling if I brought an Ele it’d go much quicker. I’ve gotten kicked from a few Raid groups already when I even try Necro, because “we need better dps” (not saying all raid groups, but the fact Necro isn’t considered DPS, utility, or tank to top raid groups is kinda saying a lot). Necromancers were already fighting to even be in the raid meta.
And on a final note, the reasoning behind removing a large portion of the kit (minions that actually do condition damage) is pretty bad. “Power Necromancers aren’t being used” should have translated to buff Power Necromancers, not nerf Condition Necromancers. I wouldn’t mind the nerf on the minions if the DPS loss was at least made elsewhere (Gonna be honest, I LOVE Soul Reaping’s Dhuumfire+15% shroud spell CD, and I love that it’s viable again). Really dropped the ball on this one, guys.
The reason Power Necromancers weren’t used is because:
1) No reasonable damage ranged weapons that scale power+no protection but a measly shroud that blows off from a strong gust of wind.
2) Horrible damage, not in comparison to Condition Necromancers, but in comparison to literally any other class (Including some that offer mostly team utility).
3) No AoE damage outside reaper shroud other than gravedigger, which unless they’re under 50% hp isn’t a gamechanger.
4)No benefit from sacrificing a ranged build for an up close build.
5) Too many channeling moves with high cast times where you can’t do anything else.
Buffs that would have ACTUALLY helped the class:
1) Make the channeling moves higher damage, quicker to cast, higher cooldown to use.
2) Increase axe range and damage (well damage more than you did).
3) Allow all dagger strikes to build up shroud to some degree (even 1% or something).
4) Combine dagger 2 and 3 into one spell, reduce the damage, and reduce the snare time to 2 seconds. Allowing you to make a new dagger 2 spell that does an AoE of some sort. Throw it like a boomerang, stab and rot the ground and have decrepit trees come up, or something who knows.
5)Make or change a trait-line that gains random boons and then boonshares them with allies (so they actually benefit your team from stacking), or like “for every boon gained, heal allies 200 health” or something.
6) Make or Change another trait line that converts a portion of power into toughness or Vitality instead of relying on foods alone.
Anyway, this is as close to a gravestone as I can come to. So cheers to Necromancers. May they one day rise again like every minion they brought fourth!

One mistake in 4 years, yup, time to complain on the forums for more gold.
The issue isn’t the mistake, the issue is the response. If you buy a defective product from the store, stores have return policies these days. Your response was pretty much what I expected to be on this thread, but keep in mind next time you return a defective item you’re essentially the same as me. “One defective purchase in 4 years, better complain and get my money back”. Any new businesses that open up have to mimic other stores’ polices to stay relevant, and I’d assume video games should follow suite.
As the title states, I am severely disappointed about the response of the Rollback. I do not normally post threads, but I thought this issue important enough to. I’ve played many games in my time and usually there is some compensation more than “Sorry, we made a mistake. You have to replay 2.5 hours after a forced 8.5 hour intermission”. And even though some may call it “greedy”, I’m inclined to disagree since it is merely data, which they can create from nothing (Well except a little man power, but I guarantee the financial losses at no response exceeds that man power).
I’m not asking for compensation that may compete with their monetary exchanges (I.E. Gems), but at least a few gold or perhaps even a joking title like “Disconnected Hero” that could be worn (or an extension of 30 more seconds on Shooting Gallery in Verdant Brink, haha). I’ve spent quite a great deal of money with their company, and this response has greatly hurt their reputation with me. Needless to say I will be steering my wallet clear of this game moving forward, and will possibly take a long hiatus (as fun as this game has been to me the past few months).
Also, the cause of the rollback is extremely ludicrous to me. It’s about “Soulbound gear”…I don’t mind Account Bound gear, but what part of gameplay could possibly be hurt by allowing gear you already possess to be moved to another character? If anything, they should’ve fixed it by just ditching the soulbound idea altogether (which didn’t even affect me, because I only use Account bound Ascended).
Anyway, I assume I’m going to get a lot of flak for even recommending compensation (probably being called “entitled”), but the fact of the matter is it’s my money and I’d rather spend it with a business that has a better response. The situation really is a shame.
EDIT: Gotta say, the amount of people that are ok with that large of a loss in time is kinda staggering. It’s just data to them which is free (Well other than manpower and storage, but that’s fairly cheap in regards to the product), so not sure why all the hate on asking for compensation. It’s not like I’m asking they release the entire LS3 or give me a legendary. And I’m not a fan of using loaded phrases to try to incite a response from me, but hey, really reminds me who the playerbase is. #classy, guys
