Then files are downloaded as needed, checked, and if they are wrong, they get downloaded again, you may have to download a file more than once.

So it’s not that they won’t tell you. Is that they can’t tell you.

The launcher will check the dat container. See what is missing or needs to be downloaded. From that they can at least estimate the size of your download.
After that it can recheck your files and see what is corrupt or missing again, and start a download with an estimated size remaining.

Yes, it will be different between users, but when they check your data file, they know what needs to be downloaded and therefore knows the size of each file.

I know this has been said a lot in these forums already, but I’m here to say it again.

Show us the total patch size in the launcher! I don’t care how many files you need to download, it’s the total size of the patch that matters.
Some of us run on capped internet connections, and when there is a patch we have to hope it doesn’t blow the cap away. If we knew we could figure out if we just want to wait until our next monthly cap to download the patch and then play, or just download it straight away.
Other then capped connections, it’ll also help us know roughly how long to wait before we can play.

I see no reason not to tell the players how big the patch is going to be.
If ArenaNet doesn’t want to update their launcher to display this, simply put a forum post in the News & Announcements telling us the estimated size!

Thank you.
