It may clear up JJBig’s problem, but not mine. Mine was a level 7 fractal with a personal level of 5.. and I hadn’t done a fractal at all in a couple days.
Yeah I didn’t miss the boss kill.. I pretty much was explaining how to do it to the team (the Jade Maw fight). I participated in every meaningful way from charging and throwing crystals, killing the elementals, and tentacle arms. I grabbed a crystal at the end and was one of the ones that lived. Anyone else have any ideas?
Hi, I have in the past learned about DR and how it affects world bosses, but this was different. I hadn’t done a Fractal in a couple days. I have played – done jump puzzles, WvW, other bosses like Jormag and Marionette etc. since last time I did a fractal. It was a scale 7 and my personal reward level was 5. Did the whole thing with the same group from start to finish – no disconnects or anything else funky. I got the big chest at the end, but did not get my daily reward chest (I’m looking for the Pristine Frac Relics to get rings) I went back to my bank and I have 3 pristines so far – so apparently I missed another one at some point too. (I have done them for progression each time I’ve run it) So what gives here? Anyone else ever have this happen? Did they add pristines to only certain levels under 10 when they made that change? Any help would be appreciated. (If it matters, one other guy in my party said he didn’t get one either) Thanks in advance for the help!
Good suggestion! I take him to Lions Arch and do some banking each day and usually at least one, if not both, of the pre-events for Shatterer but I don’t go anywhere else really. Without knowing how diminishing returns works exactly I’ll assume that’s the problem and swap him around for some new scenery. Thanks for the reply!
Hi, this has happened 3 times now and I can’t find any other info on it so figured I’d ask here. After the daily reset (7pm EST currently) I am able to do any world events (Jormag, Wurm, Maw, SB etc) on any of my 8 lvl 80 characters and I get the daily event bonus chest as intended. The exception is that if I do Shatterer on my Engineer I get a gold medal for participation, but it awards about 14 copper, 44 karma and 4,000 exp as if I was level 1 or something. And even with gold medal participation I don’t get the large chest that the Shatterer drops, or the daily bonus chest that appears on the right hand side of the screen at the end of the event for your guaranteed yellow. I go back later and I get full participation credit and all the appropriate chests on any of my other characters.
I know the obvious fix is to not use my engineer there but he’s played rarely enough as it is, and I feel that event lends itself to his strengths. Any suggestions on what I can try in order to do that event on that character?

Further proof that they have no idea about the mindset of the PvP player base that I know so well. Most of us play alts. We do it to flesh out the team. We don’t have one glorious main with special footprints and unicorn trails. We have a selection of fully geared toons to fit the situation (to the extent that we are still able to ‘fully gear’ them while falling further behind via calandar gating loot aquisition).
4 Maps that have not changed, most of the time opponents don’t change. Now we can’t play different charcters to mix it up or we fail to ‘progress’. Get ready to get bored. If this is the new system I’d rather just didn’t do anything at all. Most people I play with are barely hanging on. Stomp on their fingers again.
I play longer on games that are not treadmills. I am not of the WoW generation. In UO if you died you lost all your gear – it wasn’t an issue. In SWG I played for years knowing that the gear I crafted would be BiS and I’d never have to chase that carrot. I get happy with horizontal progression more so than vertical. But I cannot ignore the vertical or I am not able to perform my role in groups at my full potential.
Frankly I was quite content with the speed of attaining exotics when there was nothing but skins to progress toward. I am not looking to smash content in a week then not log back in like the hardcore fractal30+ crowd during the into weekend. I don’t complain about having nothing to do in game – far from it. I am concerned that introdution of this gear in this manner – and more importantly NEW gear when it is released (if it will be gated with the same system) will be pushing us more and more toward single character , single specs with no diversity or you will be at a severe disadvantage.
In 3 months or so- earrings will probably be next. Then weapons maybe? My guardian alone has the ability to use 11 different weapons. 6x armor slots? This laurel system as it stands can’t be maintained while allowing players to have diversity.
Forcing me to one character, one spec.. thats what will cause me insufferable boredom.
The fact that you are able to do something doesn’t mean you should. We can probably agree that that is common sence.
If you chose to wear non-BiS gear for a few months while you work toward your personal goals – all the more power to you. I choose to get the best gear possible on all of my characters by putting in more time then other players. I’m sorry if it makes you sad, but that’s my chosen personal goal. It is no less important than yours.
Unfortunately – my goal is currently not possible given the laurel limit. All I want is a path for players to work on to attain the gear in THEIR OWN timeframe. For some it will be never. For others it will be quicker. Let each player decide how fast the race is – or if they wish to race at all.

This argument is overused and invalid. The fact that I CAN do 99% of the game content in green magic find gear doesn’t mean I should. It is holding my group back, and it means I would not be playing to my full potential. Ascended gear is the end game – like it or not. Gating it behind punching the clock for 20 minutes a day to complete dailys instead of allowing people to progress toward it at their own rate is the issue at hand in this topic.
You really expect to fully gear 11 characters in the very best the game has to offer? In what time period? A month? A week?

No. What I expect is the ability to work harder to attain it in as speedy a time frame as I am able to work for it. I am willing to work 8 times harder to gear my 8 alts . A month – a week? Why does it matter how fast I can do it compared to others? The fact is that we alt lovers, who change characters to benefit the team – be it in WvW or Dungeons – whatever – are now locked into a calandar based system instead of being given the ability to do what we’ve always done – work harder than the average player.
Please reread the thread before making this rude generalization. I don’t want it handed to me. I want a path that I am able to work down. I am able to work harder than other players, but there is no system in place that will allow me to do so. I WANT to work harder. Thats my end game.
To those arguing alts require more time, you are correct. I am prepared to devote time to it. I have already made peace with the fact that there will be ascended gear in game. I didnt quit over it like many others I used to play with. I buckled down and did what I needed to do. I put in the extra time and now EACH of my characters has at least 1 appropriate set of rings for their main build. In fact I have 17 more in the bank. For the record, each of my 80s if in full exotics/ascendeds – thats where I chose to spend my time, energy, and ingame/real world money.
My problem isn’t that I am unwilling to work harder. My problem is that I CAN’T. Sure someday they may add new ways to attain laurels. They MIGHT do a lot of things. But as it stands right now in this live build, I am looking at 6 months of dailys with no way to speed it up. What if the ascended earrings are released in 3 months (lol what if.. we know they will be)- and what if they use the same system? 18 months of dailys just to BIS? This system as it stands is not working. In fact its far worse than Fractals.
And for those arguing BiS is not needed… you are simply wrong. WvW is my most important aspect of this game. If it isn’t yours – thats OK too, but don’t belittle my progression compared to yours. All else being equal in an encounter 2 players of equal skill, gear is what it comes down to. In a 10 on 10.. well it just gets worse.
And, Ele Lady, maybe I am going to do fractals on each one of them. If you recall in my original post I stated I play what is needed. Now with the ability to join fractal groups of any level, if my group needs a guardian – they can get one. But only if I can manage to get him geared.
well darkace, they are NOT doing that. Thats the problem. “Run dungeons” is not the solution. RUN FOTM will not help. I have 45 Pristine Fractal Relics. If that was the cost, I was prepared to pay it.
You see – You cannot attain the gear by playing more. You can ONLY attain the gear by playing for a very very long time – a little bit per day.
Yeah Aisina.. Thats what i was getting at.. I play the game a ton. I play on many different alts – I do what the group needs. Hey we’re doing AC and we dont have an ele yet? guess what – Ill play ele!
But like you said. Dailys on the account dont help me gear everyone. I’m full exotic on 6 toons so far – It will be 8 before I ever consider their “end game” legendary skins. I was happy with that call. I’m NOT happy to take 6 months to get every toon on par.

OK Gisei – provide some proof that the ascended rings & ammys are avialbale in WvW in ANY way. Go ahead – Photoshopped screenies will be fine.

Distate.. I agree.Many ways to attain the gear needed to maximize your character is definately appreciated. But don’t tempt them with adding Kharma cost ascendeds.. we all just bought 1M worth of Orrian jewelry boxes and got trash results! lol (actually a guildy got “The Hunter” from one of them and therefore made us blow a F*Load on them lol)
Yeah sure It’s not nescessary for you to have exotics either – you do great in them greens. Thanks for pugging with us. At least I got my rez daily…

10 stats? l2math. This is just the beginning as every piece of armor and accessory and weapons will be ascended eventually.
I am an altaholic – there I said it. And I am not alone.
But here’s the thing- I’m also a WvWer – I roll alts and gear them to be part of a spec teams in the meta game. I like to be able to fill any roll necessary for the team when our normal players can’t be on. I’m not the best at every class but I can gear to the max and be competitive.
For now that is….
But with the recent addition of ascended necklaces, my gearing up of my toons has been lengthened to AT LEAST 6 months of dailys. If I dont miss a day.
So you gave me the opportunity to roll every single class – I bought the slots to do so from the gem shop. I was grateful for that! But I can’t get them max geared?
I must have missed the warning that there was going to be a hard cap on gear attainment. I don’t care about legendary’s – if I get one some day – so be it. A skin is a skin. The stats are whats important. But with 1700 hours of /age I think I deserve a little more consideration.
I want the characters that you allowed me to make ( heck even call it 5 toons total for those that didn’t buy the character slots ) to be able to get appropriately leveled gear in a reasonable time frame.
For the record, I hated fractals as it was released. But I went ahead and leveled myself up to 3 lvl 10+ fractals guys to get the dailys needed to get their rings & backpacks. I did the time sink. Now – I cant even use the extra time I have to my advantage. I am limited to 1 a day, no matter how many charcters I need to outfit.
Single character players get done in about 3 weeks with their appropriate neckwear, while I toil away for 6 months.
It’s really not fair.
Think about this. I know Ascended earrings will be out in 3 months or less. How will they be implemented? Should I quit now? Or are you hoping to hook me for the next 12 months beyond? Ive been MMOing for 20 years now. I can tell ytou that for myself and the folks I play with every day, This type of gearing system is a deal breaker.
Tie the daily to characters, even if only for laurels. Or drastically reduce the cost of necklaces. (has anyone ever considered alt specs? I have 3 on my ele alone!)
I can grind with the best of them. THIS is unreasonable. Ya know.. for a company that doesnt make grindy games and all.
Kinda doesn’t matter how it looks. Its an open world full loot PvP focused game where the castles that get sieged are your own.. that you built with your own gold.. and that you lose entirely if you fail. There’s no gear grind because you drop it when you die anyway. It’s like old school UO mixed with Shadowbane. Unfortunately, it’s also basically a FPS.
We on SBI will be taking some heavy hits to be sure.
Equal badges/bags for support specs! My Warrior/Thief/Mesmer/Ele all get 3-5 times more badges than my MAIN character, a full heal support guardian. Specially if Ascended gear is going to be based on kill credit or drop in those bags.

If you ever actually manage to kill someone as they beat you down 4vs1, and somehow are able to manage to hit the F key 100 times where we dropped the loot bag (at the position you were at ~2-3 seconds ago – so you better run back!), you now have a .01% chance to have your trash blue item upgraded to a trash green!
