I hate to tell you this, but it’s not a bug. It’s how Anet wants the ranger pet names to work.
Apparently, this is not a bug. It’s how Anet wants ranger pet names to work, which is frankly baffling to me.
A fair, reasoned writeup.
I’ve played the ranger a fair amount, as well as other classes, and off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything in the game that is NOT insta-cast … except for the ranger’s F2 pet ability and their spirit abilities.
I have other skills that are very useful, but it does make me sad that the spirits are, as of now, a waste of skill points.
Yes, the first time I did AC I was all excited to use my spirits as support for my team. But I was pretty disappointed by their horrible aura range, especially with the mobility necessary for many fights. I also had no clue whether my spirits were helping or not, they just kind of … sit there.
So I’ve put my spirits away in their Spirit Box until they are redesigned.
The #1 most frustrating thing about playing a ranger are the pet bugs.
I’d put the uselessness of the spirits as #2. For providing such weak buffs, their effective range is extremely low, especially considering that dungeon mechanics are designed to keep everybody as mobile as possible.
Hopefully ranger spirits are on the dev’s list for a complete overhaul.
If nothing else, it would be helpful if the F2 ability started flashing when you hit it, so that the UI at least acknowledges that you want your pet to do the action when it gets around to it.
However, like a real cat, I tell my lynx pet to bleed my enemy and he ignores me …
