I seem to be stuck on the very first part of the Southsun story. After talking to Inspector Kiel the story doesn’t advance. Is that intentional?

Different styles of engie

I think engie has so much potential to be a versatile and fun class. I’m listening to the http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2guru/b/365009593 webcast at about the 1hour marker. They are mentioning engineers and how they are under-loved. I would like to see attention to the regular weapons rifle, pistol, and off-hand pistol.

The shield seems alright.

The rifle set seems to want to be in melee far too much for what the rest of the engie skills are conveying. Rifle 1 is awkward to me. It’s a piercing shot which is interesting. It’s offering slight aoe potential but nothing more. The damage isn’t threatening either. The rest of the skill set for the rifle seems that they want a hit and run style of engie.

I don’t really have much to say about pistols because they are condition based which favors tankier builds. It’s good. It fills that niche. Put confusion on a thief then shield up. Nice.

The off hand pistol options don’t make much since to me. The glue shot is a kiting control abilty which since the only option while using the OH pistol is the MH pistol which doesn’t offer any control it’s nice to have one. This show the glaring issue with OH pistol 4 flame shot. Favors being close. It isn’t a punishment or deterrent for melee. I don’t like it. It doesn’t fit.

Gadgets and elixers could use some loving attention. For short term buffs they aren’t really worth using.

Condition damage vs direct damage

Alright, so let’s see what we have here….
In every other aspect meaning situations where conditions are stacked to the point of redundancy like events…… even though people still don’t apply vulnerability. Even in “short” encounters you’ll probably get the full duration of most conditions due to anet liking longer fights.

About the proc on crit? You’re right that is one additional stat to make that more reliable. So I guess that’s condition damage+precision+defensive stats? Still better than Power+precision+crit damage.

There seems to be an obvious balance issue between these two means of dealing damage. First of all I will mention that being a direct damage dealer requires 3 stats (power, precision, and crit damage) to be successful. Condition damage only requires one which leaves stat points free to allotted into toughness, vitality, and healing. So while condition damage might not be as fast (depending on the type) it allows for those players to be equally as defensive.
