Bring weekend events back!

I would love to see the weekend events that we saw in Guild Wars 1 (and still do afaik) come back. To me personally, this brought diversity to the game. After school or work on friday I knew that this weekend I would spend doing alliance battles for extra faction and balthazar points to max out my Kurzick title, or maybe I planned with my guildmates to farm bosses the entire weekend to get those special green drops we wanted so badly during the double chance for green drop events.

I really think these weekend events brought players together and also brought retired or bored players back into the game, because they had a new incentive to play for the weekend at least. Certain weekends the events were not my cup of tea but it didn’t matter because I knew that sooner or later something that I really enjoy would be the event. To put it short my impression of the weekend events were that they gave players reasons to try different parts of the game or maybe just dedicate yourself even more to the parts of the game you enjoy the most.

When I thought about it I came up with a few suggestions of weekend events that I could see in Guild Wars 2:

  • Double chance for exotic drops from dungeon chests and/or bosses.
  • Double chance for exotic drops from world boss chests.
  • 50% Increased glory gain in sPVP.
  • 50% Increased world experience gain in WvsWvsW.
  • 50% Increased chance for Black Lion Keys from champions (www, open world, dungeon champions etc)
  • 50% Increased material gain from mining, harvesting or chopping trees etc.
  • 50% experience gain from doing events, hearts and killing mobs (alt friendly)

The options are limitless and the numbers can of course be changed to not have to big impact on the economy and stuff like that. Anyways, what do you guys think about this? I for one would absolutely love to see these events come back because to me it would bring a new incentive to the game and it would also make the world more living I think.

Race changer - Urgently needed

Its about alot more than getting level 80. And the argument that

“you played a sylari for so long and geread him up and now you wanna change race, you should have thought abou that before”

doesnt do it for me. People change, people wanna try diffrent things. And I just find it hard to see myself get a new character with the same profession but diffrent race, getting to level 50 in fotm again, getting 3 diffrent sets again, farming my full arah set, exploring 100% of the world again, getting all my weapons again like spirit link, whisperblade etc and ofc the legendary.

Those other games don’t have a personal story.

Thats why I stated a possible solution for that if you´d spent some more time reading through the thread.

A lot of things are needed in Guild Wars 2 . This is not one of them

My only response to this is that other major games have the option for u to change race, and the reason they have that is because people want it. So for you to try to speak for all of us is just not the right thing to do. As I said other games have the options for a reason, the same reason I think GW2 should have it.

“We’re not actively working on …,” is PR speak for “No, you can’t have this and we have no interest in doing it.”

Now that you have a translation you can assume ANet has weighed in.

Im not entirely sure they used those exact words, therefor I didnt really quote them. Nonetheless their last statement about this “issue” is a couple of months old, and I believe a new statement from arena net would be justified. Just to clear things out, and stop even more of posts calling for a race change, cuz right now they are daily on the forums :p

I would also love to see race change possible. I’ve been playing since pre-launch and last few months I really got into the Asuran race, ive been reading about the race, learning the lore and so forth, not to mention I absolutley love the animations they have.

I do realize there could be certain issues with implenting this:

  • Personal Story – The solution without any experience or knowledge about scripting and designing issues would be to reset the personal story and make sure you can no longer receive any rewards while re-doing it. There is also the problem with achivement points in the “Hero” section of the forum. Maybe you could make sure achievements through personal story wont be attainable with a character that is re-doing his personal story as another race, just as with the rewards. As I said I dont know the data and mining issues to complete this.
  • Cultural Armor – My current race is Sylvari, Ive got full t3 with three cultural weapons on top of that. If possible, you could transform this set into the set for the race u choose? If thats not possible for what ever reason, let people know that, if u decide to go trough with a race change ure current cultural armors will be of no use, and not useable. Thats just the price u have to pay for changing race. I would be fine with that. Or maybe you could just transmute it before u racechange to make the set still useable but not in the original apparence?

My conclusion is that I would love to hear from A-net about this. AFAIK all we heard so far is that they´re not actively working on a “race change”. I think a new update on this would be usefull, atleast to inform us if we can expect a race change in the near future or if we have to stick with our misstake of choosing the wrong race for our true prefences.

Actually I remember one guy having an intressting point at this “issue”. He said, scamming, thieving or what ever you want to call it, could actually be a role you take on as a player. After all you´re playing RPG fantasy game so I think the point is valid and the players who scam or thiev dont really brake any rules since they are after all using the “mechanics” that are at our disposal.

Negative. If you role play a theif then you ‘pretend’ to steal. If you are actually misleading players into sending you items through the mail with the promise to send them something in return you ARE a theif, you are not role playing one.

Dont really know how to respond to this without making it more complicated then it really is. If you steal you´re a thief no matter what. In real life there is legislation to stop it. In GW2 there are no formal rules afaik that tell you not to steal. If you can take advantage over the system that ArenaNet has given us to steal items from people I dont see that as something illegal, and yea you´re a thief in an RPG game. Thats what initially pointed out.

There is no specific legislation yet because the law has not kept up with technology in this regard.

There is a big difference sitting down in a paper and pencil RPG and ‘Stealing’ something from your friend that doesn’t really exist or have any intrisic value and stealing in Guild Wars 2.

In Guild Wars to my items and gold can be given a value in real currency.

Not to mention it is only role playing if both parites agree. Pretending to trade with me via in game mail and then not following through on your part of the bargin and calling it role playing is a weak attempt at justiying your actions.

There may not be legislation against, but there are moral implications. Maybe not for you, but certainly for me. Stealing is stealing and you are not fooling anyone except possiby yourself calling it anything else just because it occurs in a virtual enviroment.

I pretty much agree with you. Stealing is being irrational and I dont do it myself because I think its morally wrong. I however dont really agree with how you relate the actions you take in a videogame, especially not a ROLE PLAYING GAME to real life. To me thieving without exploiting the game mechanics is a valid way to be a thief if you so wish.

I like to add to the chorus that Cantha was my favorite game from the GW1 series. I loved the setting of a hyper-metropolis (mostly these are in Sci-fi “megacities”). While GW2 feels like a classic man vs nature, tale. The stories told in Cantha seemed to have more of a man vs man/himself, (the evil that is brought about through vengance and division…or something like that).

Tyria is a land that largely belongs to the wild, Mountains, oceans, jungles, and swamps claim the landscape and humanity lives against that wild. This makes for beautiful scenery: forests, mountains, canyons and so on; but also familiar and, in ways, predictable scenery. Tyria is about external threats from without the walls and fortresses of man.

Cantha is the opposite, in Kaineng City was about the wild inside of the domain we claim as our own. This made for a tremendously amazing setting with complex buildings, bizarre architectures, glorious colours. This was a place where humanity is a permanent hum in the air, as if you’re immersed in it. This made for much more creative landscapes and city-scapes as these are reflections of what we have create for ourselves. Cantha was about the enemies that come from within our civilizations and the enemies that we make of ourselves (think of Kurzick vs. Luxon).

I think that Cantha would be a fantastic addition to the GW2 series somewhere down the road (GW2 will need and expansion eventually, hopefully soonish), and I would like to see it feature Cantha!

If there are reservations based of cultural appeal, I’d like to remind that WoW’s recent expansion heavily featured Asian themes, and they seem to be doing just fine so far!

I very much second this post… And yea to point out WoW´s MOP expansion makes very much sense, If blizzard can do it I cant see how NcSoft can see the Canthan culture as problematic.

Yea, I just have to add that the music from Factions was/is incredible. Ive been working on my social science essay all day long just listening to the Guild Wars 2 faction sountrack.

I dont think this thread can be overseen for much longer (I know A-net have replied), especially not with WoodenPootatoes new lore series part awakening the Canthan longing in all of us.

I think the devs need to give us a new and informative statement about the Canthan state and the future of Guild Wars 2 with or without Cantha.

I would love to see Cantha comming back and judging from all these voices longing for Cantha to come back Im pretty sure and announcement about Cantha being developed and/or planned for the future would atleast keep me and pretty sure thousands of other players attached to Guild Wars 2 untill that expansion or update was realsed! Id say it would be an safe investment out of ArenaNets and NCSofts perspective to give us players Cantha back.

I am using knights gear (power precision toughness) with clerics trinkets.
As for the traits I run 20 fire, mainly for the reduced meteor shower CD. Right now I use 30 Arcana for the bigger aoe and the attunment swap boons. I also use the Evasive arcana along with arcane blast for extra aoe healing etc. on top of this I run 20 points in water mainly for the condition cleansing.
I find this a reasonable mixture. You do plenty of aoe dmg, lootbags keep spawning under you if you land ur meteor shower right in zvz, you clense alot of condition and you heal alot, this along with mist from can keep you alive in most scenarios.

I would say Im a decent damage dealer with decent support and I do feel like an asset to my group. I also the same build while doing dungoens, You could probably make a few adjusments but I am a lazy man and feel this build does the job both in www and dungeons.

I recomend you to check daphoenix guides for further information. He has a very decent d/d ele guide and a staff guide that is not complete but still has alot of usefull information imo. Heres the link to his d/d guide, you can find the staff link in that thread aswell: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-Mastering-the-D-D-ele-2-16-12/first
