as the title says, i am a spvp player looking for a tournament group. i’ve run a few frees and such so i do understand the basic concepts of the game, but i’d like to find a fun group of people to learn and eventually (hopefully) win with. the main classes i am interested in playing are elementalist, guardian, and necromancer. i also have a warrior and ranger in case i need to learn to play those to help fill out a spot.
and again, as the title says, i’m new. my rank is only 13. i am however, very open to constructive criticism and would be more than happy to learn and work with a more experienced group. if you think i might fit in well with your play style or your existing team, feel free to message me in-game or reply to this post.
thanks to everyone who took the time to read this.
edit: i am on the NA servers (anvil rock). i would be potentially open to transferring to EU if our time schedules aligned nicely.
i’ve done my fair share of pvp in hotjoin, and there’s a startling trend i’ve been noticing recently. players have started discussing the more intricate aspects of the classes in GW2. variations of “dude, ur a [insert”flavorofthemonth"spec/class], if ud play a real class like [insert"underrated"spec/class] id totally take you down 1v1" are frequent. failed attempts at strategic game-play, i.e., capturing nodes and junk, are also occurring more often. there’s even been times where someone has attempted to help or give instructions to new players.
now this topic is not meant to be about which spec/class can 1v1 the best (it’s mace/shield bunker warrior btw). i’m here to remind all of you of one important thing. hotjoin is not about strategy, or 1v1, or knowing your class. its about friendship. it’s about a group of kick awesome dudes fighting each other, but never where it’s actually useful. it’s about running around blindly spamming all of your buttons (use your elite skill first, always.) it’s about that high you get when you 6v1 that weird ranger who is always guarding the far point, and you earthshaker their bird right outta the sky because man, is that thing annoying, and then quickness stomp them in the face. it’s about blowing “save yourselves” when no one is around because you just wanna see those sweet boons pop up. mmm, those boons are tasty. it’s about letting that bunker engineer kill you where you stand while you get your hot pocket out of the microwave because if you don’t it’ll get all congealed on the inside and no one wants to eat that. it’s about making sure that stupid stupid BS thief knows that he’s actually a terrible player, he just chose to play the easiest class, who cares if he’s actively killing you while you type furious whispers to him, your opinions must be heard. it’s about dodge rolling as much as the game will allow you to. but most of all, it’s about teamwork.
so the next time you’re at the keep with four of your teammates, don’t stay behind to defend the point while they get to go have all the fun. you’re playing a bunker spec to stay alive, not to stand in one place. and when you see that elementalist going for the ruins, just let him take it. no one likes fighting underwater, and those sharks are super annoying. but above all else, stick with your team. remember, there’s no i in team, and there sure ain’t one in zerg either.

thank you guys so much for the advice and builds to try out. i now have a better perspective on both the play-style of the necromancer and how to use our tools effectively. if anyone else has any suggestions or anything to add, feel free. i’ll continue to watch for new posts and hopefully we will generate some more information for other people out there. i know there have been many times that i’ve come to the forums to just read and learn.
just as a quick note, i’m only concerned with sPvP in regards to this topic.
i want to play a bunker necromancer. i have read a few posts saying that necros can’t bunker as well as elementalists or guardians. i don’t have the experience with the class to know whether or not that is true. i do love the necro. he/she is all dark and depressed and what not. i also like getting hit in the face. so, naturally playing a bunker necro, or at least a tankyish necro, makes sense to me.
so far i’ve been leaning towards some sort of 0/0/30/20/20 or 0/0/20/30/20 type build. or maybe 0/0/20/20/30. i’m not too sure. i just can’t figure out what stats i should be more concerned about most. is it better to go more condition damage with a shaman’s amulet, or would having 28,000 health and 2,800 armor via soldier’s be more useful? i sometimes run a kitten 00/20/30/20 with wells, dagger/focus – axe/warhorn, and soldier’s amulet in hotjoin. it’s stupidly fun. but i’m not sure it would translate well to tPvP. i do realize i’d at the very least need to swap one of those weapon sets out for the staff if i were to run it in tournaments.
to summarize, i’m basically asking: what is the general consensus on bunkering as a necromancer, and how should i go about doing it effectively?
