Why is Common Clothing a tonic?

I would really like to see it turned into a proper outfit that everyone can access. Yes, that would mean that you could wear it in combat, but who cares? I use it all the time on the RP server, and I’m sick of having to buy a tonic every time I want to wear it.

It’s also my understanding that the resource for the tonics is dwindling. There’s no way to get the common clothing tonic except what’s currently on the Trading Post. Eventually there just aren’t going to be any more left. Hell, I’d even be willing to pay gems for it.

Any thoughts?

Are Charrs Sexist?

The Flame Legion treats it’s females as subservient to the males (treating them as cooks and tailors), is normal Charr society like this as well? If so, I’m sure it would have to be to a lesser degree.
At the very least, are female Charr seen as weaker than males are? More importantly, is there a factual basis for this?

Explain the Schools of Magic to Me

in Lore

So from what I understand, lore-wise, there are four schools of magic which each profession practices at least one of. Preservation, Destruction, Aggression, and Denial. Though I feel like my understanding of these schools is incomplete at best, and I can’t find any sources to cite that explain them better. After hours of thought, my understanding of each school to it’s furthest extent is as follows, and I’d like anyone to correct me if they feel I’m missing something or getting something wrong, as well as add anything that they feel deserves to be included.

Preservation: A defensive school of magic that targets primarily the caster. This school’s main focus is defending the caster from negative effects of other magics and enhancing aspects of the caster for offensive purposes. Things this school may be capable of is increasing the caster’s natural toughness, heal them, and defend them from conditions. I’m almost certain that professions such as Guardian and Ranger both utilize this school.

Destruction: An offensive school that focuses on deconstructing base materials in order to get something out of it, such as heat (with fire) or shaping it into a weapon (such as earth and ice). This school can effect both material and non-material things, such as lightning, and can even take the form of pure magical energy for the purpose of either being manipulated or weaponized. Elementalists seem to use this magic most relevantly, though I feel like Warriors and Guardians use this as well.

Aggression: An offensive magic that primarily focuses on a target other than the caster, inflicting suffering and discomfort on those around it by creating conditions and other negative effects. Aggression can involve creating curses as well as physical beings who’s purpose is to be “aggressive” Necromancers seem to use this type of magic, and to a lesser extent, the Mesmer.

Denial: A defensive magic that focuses on interfering with preexisting systems in order to either prevent something from occurring, or to create a new effect altogether. Thiefs use this type of magic by either altering light to become invisible, or to alter space to teleport via the mists (shadowstepping). Mesmers also use this magic to generate visual, auditory, and even neural illusions by influencing the target’s brain or thought processes.

While no one person can practice all four schools of magic, each profession seems to use a “primary” school they default to, and some a “secondary” school which they can fall back on. But the more schools one practices, the greater the chances of said magic becoming uncontrollable, eventually killing the user in the process.

Altoholism: A Bane and Burden

in Players Helping Players

Greetings fellow GW2ers. I’d like the community’s opinion on a problem I’ve been burdened with ever since I started playing the game, and for some reason, this only seems to apply to this game in particular. Though it’s a little difficult to describe, I’ll do the best I can.

I’d describe the issue as severe Altoholism (the act of making many characters rather than just one or two), but I feel that simply doesn’t do it justice. My problem is that I end up making a character (whichever class it may be) only to end up deleting him (for whatever reason) in favor of a different class. Beings as each account only has five character slots with eight playable professions, there’s bound to be at least three of them outside my grasp at any given point. The process goes as follows…

I begin by making a character, choosing a class I think will be fun to play as with whatever race I feel would best suit that class. I enter the world and do the normal player activities. Events, quests, skill grinding, the whole nine yards. This occurs for an average of 10-20 levels before I begin to think about what it would be like to play this same story mission, quest, event, or so-and-so as another class, perhaps with a specific weapon set or skill combo. I then proceed to delete and existing character to test this theory or satisfy my need for a different playstyle, and thus the cycle starts over again.
I’m extremely indecisive as to which class I want to play, and never stick to playing one for more than a few days. I love all the classes of GW2, but all for different reasons. Some of them I play purely for their unique class mechanic, as it’s just fun to play. Others I like because they can handle scenarios other classes cannot. Some classes I like purely for cosmetic purposes, others I like for their abilities that many classes lack. Probably my biggest issue is that I simply want it all, and just can’t have it. I end up making/remaking characters and classes so often that nobody ever makes it past level 22.

My dream, ideal scenario is to be able to make a character and play him all the way to 80, but the way things are now, it’s just not happening. I don’t really want to level three or four characters at the same time. I’m wondering if any other players in the community have a similar problem (probably not of the same magnitude) and have found solutions for it? This issue has kept me from experiencing the vast majority of GW2, and exploring most of Tyria. GW2 is an awesome game, and I feel in love with it the moment I played it, which is why it’s so important to me to find a way past this.
