90% of ppl i hear who run scepter main hand run dagger off hand. I mean i can understand with the burst from fire move 5 and ride the lightning being awesome. But short of that the focus seems a better option in more cases. The extra cc, way more survivability and a ranged knock down to set up phoenix fire fang combo. Heck even TWO projectile destroyers making you a nightmare for other ranged.
Why no focus love?
I guess for me it’s because if I want the extra versatility the Focus brings I might as well just switch to my staff. However I might give it another go tonight; I haven’t used a focus since level 15 or so, and I’m level 41 now.
I’m a big fan of S/D for solo play and staff for groups. I enjoy starting in air with my S/D, using ride the lightning to open, blow everything else on the bar mostly because it is fun to mess with your target so much, switch to fire, and blast the crap out of it. If it’s still alive move into earth to finish, and repeat. Maybe not the most efficient dps cycle. But it is fun and gives a nice flow to the combat while leaving room to improvise as needed.
This is basically my process as well.
I’m a little bummed about the Focus; for some reason I just can’t get in to it. It has some nice defensive properties but if I want some of the things the focus provides I might as well just switch to the staff.
Figured I’d start this.
I use the Sceptre/Dagger and Staff mostly. Staff for when I am in a group and lending some support/defense and S/D for when I’m PvPing or questing solo. I find S/D has a better burst sequence for stacking Might (Fire-4, 2, 3, Arcane Blast followed with 5= DEAD) and is a nice offensive loadout.
