here’s an amazing old school windmill gvg from last year
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2v8YVo3ljc
I don’t think I have any of the many open field fights getting interrupted when wvw shuts down for pve patches.

I’m in

Actually it looks like alter.net cleared up a lot in the last day or two, the forwarding is coincidental. I’m still getting a little loss at chp-brdr-03.inet.qwest.net

+1 for me, centurylink customer
I end up going through chicago where it goes centurytel→qwest→alter.net. It seems like something is going majorly wrong between centurytel→qwest.
I’ve always had issues and if I had another option I would take it, but things have just gotten noticeably worse in the last few weeks. I sent an email to centurylink tonight after I gave up trying to wvw.

How do I call the offensive behavior police to support my events? Or is this a private police force for blackgate/tts/etc.

With some changes to how overflows work, and even the arena itself, I would probably like it. As it currently works, I think it would be way too much traffic funneled into one tiny space.
Problems:
You would have a whole new population of griefers to look forward to. We already have enough griefers and clueless people interfering in gvg’s just from our own limited server populations already.
No reservations. If there’s only one map that you can get your guild into, and it’s already in use, then there’s nothing you can do. We already have this problem at times, but I think it would be magnified.
Skill lag/Bandwidth lag. Blobs aren’t fun for me because none of my skills work. If there’s a full map queue in OS doing stupid things, that’s going to be unplayable for me too.
What I would like for overflows:
Multiple overflow maps able to be chosen to travel to from the map screen somewhere.
Show how full each overflow is currently.
A queue that doesn’t keep sending you to random overflows instead of where you’re trying to go.
A queue that doesn’t break because someone did a join and filled the map before you could travel.
For arena:
Vendors/repair/vault/trainer/tp npc’s
Put an invisible wall over it that people can walk on instead of the troll magnet perches.
Will never happen, but with some ability for private instances you could have an allowed/banned list of people.

just had this happen to me too, and cannot get anything to work to make it show up again

For me, I know it’s a bandwidth issue, as everyone else I’m playing with can still fire skills and not rubberband everywhere in most cases. The best connection I have available to me is .5 megabit. That was enough to play the game reasonably well for a long time, other than 3 way smc battles. Things just seem to get progressively worse though, and I get that skill lag/rubberband everywhere feeling whenever there’s probably more than 70 people colliding at once. I don’t know if it’s due to more people playing wvw in general, or map caps increased, or something else. I know I’m going to be useless when a map zerg shows up to attack/defend garrisons, and I used to be able to do that.
I just don’t understand why this game needs such a huge constant bandwidth requirement. I think I still had dialup when I played daoc.

You could not play anywhere without running into botted players, not goldfarmerbots named Lughyfghenjnf but normal regular player chars, who were undoubtedly and obviously botting.
And they’re still here, teleporting around picking up nodes. Some people still see the old style ranger bot trains, untouched for weeks.
So you got one ban so far, which was (quickly) taken back after reviewing your account? And here you are, scared like hell, contemplating what might happen, imagining doomsday scenarios of evil customer support employees thinking things like “this account was banned 10 times already, this time I will not take it back”? Oh my.
To me, the story just proves how effective ArenaNet handles cheaters and how reliable they unban innocent people after a review, and how paranoid some players are concerning bans.
Take it from someone who has been banned 3 times then. I have directly asked what is being done to keep it from repeatedly happening. No one has ever answered that, despite all of my support tickets and even a BBB complaint. I’ve taken that as a pretty clear answer that nothing is being done to keep it from repeatedly happening. The last ban that was given to my account had an appeal denied initially. I almost didn’t get it back.

I have this fear. I’ve also been banned 3 times and had a week+ of timeout from the game. I’ve been accused of gold selling, botting, and modifying the game. Every explanation ends up as ‘banned in error’, but the last time this happened I almost didn’t even get my account back. I had an appeal denied at one point, and was told they might not talk to me anymore. I filed a complaint with the BBB after my second ban, and that went unresolved. I was actually banned the third time while I was updating it. I thought I had figured out why this was happening, but it’s not clear if that’s the reason I was unbanned or not. I guess I’ll see what happens in the next month or two. All they said was ‘error’, and I really don’t want to talk to them anymore. It has never been a good experience and I never get any answers. I’m sick of it.
People say that they trust the company and their decisions, but trust is not something that I have anymore. You lose it when you are mistreated by the people you give it to. So now I play the game less often than I used to, and play other games once in a while instead. I always wonder in the back of my mind if I’m going to see a black screen when I click my gw2 icon. I’m certainly not thinking about buying any gems or expansions.
Forum moderation seems harsh as well. I really haven’t participated here because of it. I don’t understand why topics have to be closed in such a hurry, or at all. Your staff doesn’t always sufficiently answer the posts that they close, forcing people to make another topic about it, which is a breach of the TOS. It’s also funny how we’re supposed to post in a thread here if your ticket is older than 3 days, yet people are banned from the forums now when these things happen. Asking a friend to do it is also technically a breach of the TOS. I’m sure most of this post is violating something too, but I’m being civil about it and it needs to be said.

So, 2 weeks ago I was banned for ‘gold selling’. A 3 day wait got my account back. No explanation was given despite my asking.
Monday evening, I tried to log in and was kindly informed that I was banned for being a bot. To go along with that, it appears that new bans also keep you from posting on the forum now. I decided to post my frustrations at the BBB site. If you cannot post here either, I recommend doing that as well. After a day of waiting, my account is restored..again. Someone told me it was an error this time, instead of trying to pawn it off as me being hacked.
I want this to stop happening. I want to know why this can happen if this is not an automated process. The ‘rare’ false positives don’t seem so rare when it has now happened to me twice. I just want to play the game and attempt to have fun. Both times this has happened now has ruined a night (or more) of fun that I had planned with friends/guild members. If you’re going to stick with the line that this is not an automated process, then the person responsible needs to be fired right now.

So I am not playing the game until I know why I was banned.
Good luck with that. I kept my ticket open and specifically asked if my account had been accessed by someone else (despite no email messages), or if it was a mistake on their part. Nobody would give me a straight answer. The closest I got was this message spitting back to me the 2 possibilities I asked about.
“Hello xxxxxxxxxx,
The answer to your question is, your account may well have been accessed by a third party. I recommend checking your account.guildwars2.com page for recent activity. Another possibility is that efforts to purge third-party gold farming operations picked up your account by mistake.
In either case, changing your login password to something unique is always a good idea following a compromise. Please be sure not to tell anyone else about it.
Best,
GM xxxxxx"
I have a very hard time believing that all of this was looked at by a real person before they clicked a ban button. If it is indeed so easy to reinstate peoples accounts, why is there no careful diligence in investigating beforehand instead of inconveniencing the innocent and doing it afterwards instead. To further be given no clear explanation for why it happened just makes people angry and question their account security.
I don’t expect a perfect process to pick up people doing bad activities. What I do expect is for that margin of error to never come near the blurry line between illegal and innocent. In my opinion, this is the biggest flaw with the whole system. Go after the undeniably guilty first and perfect your system from there. If a few bots are allowed to remain because of it, that is a much better option than locking me and other innocent people out of the game for a few days.
If someone does actually want to give me a straight answer about why this happened:

I won’t be updating my ticket anymore, I give up.

Well, I had my account restored after it was blocked for ‘assisting with gold/item selling’. I am happy that I can access the game again, and that it appears that nothing has been taken from my characters.
That said, I am unhappy about this whole situation. I haven’t been given any explanation for what caused this. I saw my ticket change from ‘blocked’, to ‘hacked account’, to ‘access restored’ all with no communication done with me. All I received was an email stating that my account had been unblocked and my password was reset along with instructions on how to change it myself. In my original ticket, and also in a follow up I had asked what had happened and why I had been banned in the first place. That is still unanswered. Someone apparently decided that I could be unbanned, but cannot yet tell me why.
For my own security, I really need to know what happened. I did not receive any odd authentication emails, and none of my stuff is missing, so I really doubt that I was hacked. The current login list for my account as shown on the site here is useless, since all it shows me is one or two recent entries instead of an actual history. I’m left to wonder though. Do I need to hunt down malware and change passwords everywhere, or can someone be honest and say that they messed up? Was this some automated ban? I kind of feel bad keeping my ticket open since other people need help, but I cannot get an answer. This never should have happened, and I don’t want it happening again.

Happened to me yesterday too. I tried to log in last night and a black screen came up saying I was banned for assisting in gold selling. I’ve gone out of my way to report every chat/mail spammer I’ve seen, and loads of bot trains as well. I’ve never bought or sold any gold. Logging on the website here to see my login history didn’t give me anything useful, I just see the last login attempt from me a few minutes ago and that’s all it shows.
The less than helpful links on that black screen say “We exercise careful judgment in every case in which an account is terminated.” Obviously this is false. I think anyone peeking at my chat history would realize I’m human. Anyone following me around would realize I’m human. I don’t think a bot would fail for hours at the clocktower, or try to have fun in wvw when not interrupted by patches and queues. I haven’t been to frostgorge in a week at least. I went to Orr a few days ago to try and help someone do the balthazar event and it was the first time I’d been back there in at least a month. I think the most expensive thing I’ve ever mailed was a rare dye to a friend that would have gone for 2g on the tp. Maybe someone reported my naked low level alts trying to get the halloween books?
Whatever, at this point it sounds like some people are getting their accounts back. I at least have some faith it’ll happen. I had hoped to have some fun tonight on wvw reset, and it’s looking like that won’t happen. This whole week has had my wvw interrupted by a patch shortly after I start playing. I have limited bandwidth and it takes a while to get patched. Now this happens.. I’m happy that there are/will be less bots in the game, but not at the expense of my playing time. If there is even a slim chance that some automated system is marking false positives for botting or gold selling, then it should not be completely automated. If a real person did actually review this first, then they are clearly not doing their job.

I just hope that it isn’t preceded by a patch that will keep my poor connection tied up until the event is over. I wish all of this could be managed like other games, where things are already in place/patched way ahead of the scheduled time and just need to be activated in game at the appropriate time.

I hadn’t queued at all this week after seeing we were red again. Just tired of it, and it’s hard to remember a time when we weren’t red. Maybe that’s some of the reason for fair weather-ness on FA. I’m also usually alone from my guild when I do go, and it’s started to get to me.
I had been noticing a decline as the weeks went on though. Near release and through the 24hr matches there were constant multi-hour queues just to get in anywhere, and for the last few weeks there had been no queues whenever I tried to join. I’d never even seen an outnumbered buff during my playtimes until last week.
