You seem very dismissive to me. Everything I hear is “that sucks, this sucks, that’s not working, the DS is crap”. Pretty dismissive, isn’t it?
I have no illusions whatsoever that the DS isn’t perfect. None at all. All i’m saying is that it shouldn’t be written off as garbage before it’s even out properly.
We know the traits, skills and weapon.
We know raids.
It’s not rocket science to predict something close to reality with those parameters.
Somehow I think there’s more to these things than just number crunching.
Open world PvE is far different than Raids and T4 CMs, and DE as well as rifle (as it is currently) has no place in those.
Your rose-tinted glasses cannot save the DE in its current state. Just because you can play something does not make it good. DE in its current implementation in this demo is trash.
No idea what you mean with CM but we’re not even able to test the specs in Raids and other more demanding PvE content yet. So how are ppl so certain that it’ll suck there? Also, this is a preview for a reason, changes can and will always be made.
Congrats. It work in PvE.
Not like literally anything works in PvE, no matter how braindead played.
So? I was just pointing out, that not everything is bad about this new specialization or all the others. And braindead is pretty overstated. Besides, I’d say it’s a good thing that every kind of build can work. That encourages diversity which is way more fun than everybody running a snoringly boring meta-build.
First off: Only talking PvE here, i don’t care about PvP
I really don’t see why everyone is bashing the DS so harshly. I had a loooot of fun with it with the testing so far and it’s damage output looks pretty decent to me. Both in direct damage and condi, hell I can put some venoms on, kneel and spam #2 and the enemies die in seconds without even getting to move towards me. If they live long enough to outlast the immobilize and come close, then needle traps will take care of it + the escape skill that does further poison damage. also, with that one trait that gives you a stolen skill every time you use a cantrip, you can basically spam those, get crazy boons and blast the mobs with even more conditions, including poison. the permanently high vulnerability stacks increase the damage further. And that’s all for a type of build that the DS is not even conceptualized for.
The decrease in mobility (which isn’t even that much less since you can still dodge and stand up from kneeling at any give time + removing mobility based conditions) is a minor detail since the demage is high enough to kill the mob before it even reaches you. and even if it does you still have many skills at your disposal to either increase the time they take to get to you or just get further away again.
Ofc it’s not perfect. The mark reset comes quick and malice doesn’t boost condition damage (but the DS would be too op if it did) and the traits are even more rifle centric than the daredevil traits were with the staff. but overall I really like and enjoy the concept of the DS and it’s nowhere near as crippled as many people make it out to be.
That sounds pretty awesome~ Does the bleed apply when the target is already chilled tho? Since chill doesn’t stack, does the increase of chill time count as another application?

Thanks for the answers, that’s great to hear!
Related to that: is the explosion caused by chilling nova able to crit?
Hey people!
I didn’t find any information about it, so I thought I just ask here. Does Chill still apply bleed even if it’s caused “second hand” for example via Chilling Darkness?
Meaning:
Target gets blinded -> blind applies chill -> chill applies bleed
Or does it only work with skills that chill targets initially?
That’s interesting, I never thought about putting some healing in my stats for smth like that. Might be worth checking out. I definitely like the idea of a thief seemingly endlessly jumping around a target inflicting condi after condi after condi x3
Withdraw doesn’t work well for me bc of Trapper’s Respite. The needletrap gets put down after the roll so it’s hard to estimate where it will actually be.
After some testing I also found that signet of malice leaves me feel much more vulnerable than CV, even with the high synergy with DB, so I guess I’ll stick to CV so far.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions! I was thinking about the viper stats too, but I actually pretty much opted for a “hit and run” build, so
“get to the enemy fast” → “apply all the condis” → “get the F outta there” → “wait for ticks/cds to run out” → “repeat”.
For that, having a lot of vit/tough is definitely nice. Ans yea, I’m doing a lot of free roaming, but there are still a lot of ppl there for events, so I’m taking basi with me now.
The signet of malice is a nice idea for healing, I’m not sure tho. Channeled vigor is nice bc it gives me more endurance, thus more mobility and damges with the lotus training~ gonna try that out.
Thanks a lot for your extensive thoughts babazhook! I have to admit that I’m mostly just playing PvE so I was talking more about sheer numbers regarding the steal but nevertheless, your tips are very useful should I ever want to get into PvP or WvW.
Also, I have the impact strike in there bc of the low cooldown, to get the most out of the krait rune. When I’m not running around solo, I switch to basi poison for the venom share. I also switch the daggers with skal poison, since that times 5 does more damage than my daggers alone.
Yea, P/D is what I’m going for with the second set.
About the steal thing: Confusion would deal about 3.877 damage in total. Is that really more than stealing five seconds faster each time? Might only trade off in longer fights but still. 5s seems like a big deal to me, since steal is already dealing 7.442 damage through poison and gets me all of the sweet boons. Also, faster more initiative, so more death blossom and more endurance, meaning more lotus training.
Hey there you beautiful people!
I came up with a D/D condi build for my thief that’s going for condition damage, expertise, toughness and vitality.
I would be interested in your thoughts, suggestions and everything else~!
I used krait runes bc of the reoccurring condi inflict. Whether that deals more damage than having undead runes is something for skilled theorycrafter to solve, I guess~
Cheers~
Edit: this build is mainly for PvE, should’ve made that clear sooner.
